To ask how much annual leave you get.

Been offered a new job with a slight pay rise and a promotion but it is less annual leave with no option to buy more leave. The new job will be more stress and I am worried the lesser leave will add to the stress.

So jealous of everyone’s leave!
I get 30 days but bank holidays are taken out of that, and over a week at Christmas.

Pinkginlover · 27/01/2022 23:00

40 days including bank holidays

DickMabutt73962 · 27/01/2022 23:01

@mdinbc

You all have a lot of vacation time! What you don't say is how long you have been in your jobs.

Most entry level jobs here in Canada start with 2 weeks paid vacation, and work your way up to more after 5 years.

I currently get 28 days, but that is counted in 7 day blocks even though I work 5 days a week. So i earn 4 weeks.

That's a weird way of phrasing holiday, it's not 28 days if it's not actually 28!

Here 28 is the legal minimum for a FT 5 day work week, which is the actual 28 so works out to 5.6 weeks holiday. It may or may not include the 8 bank holidays, a lot of people on this thread are very lucky to get it as extra!

I work 4 days a week so it's pro rated, 4x5.6 is my legal entitlement which gives me 22.4 days rounded up to 23 (inclusive of BH)

DixonD · 27/01/2022 23:03

22/23 days depending on how many BH there are in any one year and when they fall. I only work 14 hours a week over three days.

FTE is 30 plus all bank holidays.

LibrariesGiveUsPower · 27/01/2022 23:04

None. No sick pay either.

Benefits of being self employed.

MsAgnesDiPesto · 27/01/2022 23:09

33 days (inc 3 which must be taken over Christmas closure) plus all bank holidays.

Public sector, 20+ years’ service. People start on 28 days, going up to 30 days after a couple of years, and 33 after 5 years.

C152 · 27/01/2022 23:13

Statutory min., pro-rata for part time hours.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 27/01/2022 23:15

I'm self employed but I take six weeks a year plus bank holidays.

I also only work about 30 hours a week at the very most. I'm done by 2pm most days and I start at 9-10am.

Kitkat151 · 27/01/2022 23:18

33 plus bank holidays.....option to buy up to 10 days extra

Blinky21 · 27/01/2022 23:27

35 with ten day carry over so usually start the year with 45, plus up to 3 lieu days per month for overtime

shakeitoffshakeacocktail · 27/01/2022 23:31

@katedan why's the job and how much leave is it then?

buzz91 · 27/01/2022 23:32

25 standard, option to buy up to 10 more, plus bank holidays and one company day

LondonQueen · 27/01/2022 23:39

Teacher, 13 weeksGrin

milkysmum · 28/01/2022 07:15

33 days plus bank holidays.
This is NHS with max entitlement ( 10 + years employment).

shouldistop · 28/01/2022 07:17

The equivalent of 5.6 weeks I think

Waxonwaxoff0 · 28/01/2022 07:38

We get 20 days plus bank holidays and then a few days extra over Christmas and new year depending on what days it falls - we finish on the 23rd December and go back on the 2nd January or thereabouts. So about 5 and a half weeks in total. We also get 5 extra "loyalty days" once we've worked there for 10+ years.

BarbaraofSeville · 28/01/2022 07:41

You have to look at the whole package and whether it's something you want.

Do you want/need more pay and new opportunities? Will the detriment (less leave and stress) be worth the extra money?

Many people get to a level where they're happy with where they are right now and see no need to advance further, or decide that the extra money isn't worth the added responsibility and stress.

Totalwasteofpaper · 28/01/2022 07:43

These posts are not representative of normal AL I don't think.

I have had 20 or 25 days in every role in my career.

The exception is my current role where we officially have 27 but theorhetically you get up to an extra 12* (these are specific days)
You can also roll up to 5 days out by one quarter.

these are self improvement/ selfcare/paperwork days so In reality if you took the full 12 for self care you'd likelybhave a real* problem in terms of career (I use about 2-4 depending in how crazy stuff is/what's on )

For me personally, employer flexibility is more important than actual days off.

My company is very demanding but progressive so unless I am in the Caribbean (ie my brain is now off and in holiday mode for 10 days) then often i don't need a full day off.
For a massage/ randon errand/ delivery/ kids sports day/ a long lunch with a pal I arrange my diary around it block time and work a bit late.

My friend has "unlimited leave" and takes 20-25 days. she is considered to take "a lot" vs many coworkers Confused

I think its worth considering overall lifestyle vs. Just "days off"

lightnesspixie · 28/01/2022 07:44

7 weeks a year this includes bank holidays I'm a nurse

SpinsForGin · 28/01/2022 07:55

I get 38 days plus Christmas and bank holidays.
I realise it's VERY generous

katedan · 28/01/2022 08:02

Thank you for your responses, a real range but generally leave allowances are higher than I expected. I have been offered 29 days plus bank holidays. I have previously had 34. I was expecting to be able to buy leave as that is the norm in my line of work but this company don't allow that and after 5 years you get another 5 days. I agree with people saying you need to ensure a work/life valence and pay and career sometimes are not as important as time off. Self care will be super important but it is a good route in at the next level.

Cakecakecheese · 28/01/2022 08:05

28 + bank holidays and the in-between days over Christmas. We can carry over up to 5 days to the next year if we want and can buy up to 5 days. Oh and we get a half day once a month.

IncompleteSenten · 28/01/2022 08:07

None. I'm self employed and my boss is a bitch. 😁

That's not bad actually and well above average. I thought you were going to say it was only the minimum, but that's more than most public sector jobs that are often held up as the gold standard of non-pay T&Cs.
Kylereese · 28/01/2022 08:17

27 plus bhs with the option to buy 3 more
