For me, it was Paris. Not an AIBU, I know

OP posts:

Marbella- awful
Pisa- dull.
Florence- meh
BUT- Sardinia- beyond Beautiful 😍
Thanks for the heads up about Hay onWye as I was planning to visit this year

BeckyWithTheAverageHair · 27/01/2022 22:35

Mogadishu
Kinshasa
Blackpool

I wasn't that keen on Spain either.

Kay1111 · 27/01/2022 22:35

Brussels - the groups of immigrants were quite threatening and made us feel a bit on edge. Didn’t help it wasn’t long after they had a bout of terror attacks

Norfolk - do not understand why it’s a popular holiday destination. It’s nearly totally flat so not a lot to look at, beaches are pretty rubbish except one and not many great restaurants. I usually go to Cornwall/Devon on UK beach holidays and the difference is huge. Much prefer that side of the country!

Tunisia - the men were awful, I was 12 at the time and they were letchy and gross. This was 20 years ago but I doubt much has changed! Barely saw a local woman the whole week we were there.

Smallkeys · 27/01/2022 22:36

I agree with an earlier post Naples absolutely dismal

TheGratefulBread · 27/01/2022 22:36

Los Angeles - the odd pockets were lovely, but most of it was a hell hole.

Miami - when I was in year 11, the hottest boy in the neighbouring all-boys sixth form, asked me out. As I'd spent a few years drooling over him, so I was real looking forward to our date. Well he may have been lovely to look at, but his character was a huge let down, he was really rather dull. Well it was exactly the same with Miami. Excitement, then disappointment, because it to was nice to look at, but lacked any real character. 🤣

AuntyBumBum · 27/01/2022 22:36

@MummyPebble

Will no doubt get backlash but Cornwall. I know people obsessed with the place but to me it’s a shithole 🤷‍♀️
Agree, and they don't like strangers.
Lolamento · 27/01/2022 22:36

Berlin and if I were to visit Paris for the first time I would be feel it is not just overrated but depressing. So different now. Like a third world country when you arrive at Gare du Nord.

maddy68 · 27/01/2022 22:36

French Riviera

Madrid

Paris

Overrated. Many other beautiful places to visit instead

ABitOfAShitShow · 27/01/2022 22:36

@JohnBetjeman

Slough
Slough is where dreams go to die. Grin
TorySteller · 27/01/2022 22:36

Hated Bali - felt genuinely unsafe there.

Also really dislike London - so many people act like anywhere in England outside of the capital isn’t worth visiting. I don’t get it, and I’ve visited London so many times.

I love New York, Rome, and Edinburgh though.

22Newnames · 27/01/2022 22:37

@StillMedusa

New York. London is nicer! San Francisco.. terrifying poverty, absolutely off their face homeless people eveywhere even in the most popular tourist spots.. incredibly sad to see and dangerous ( I toured the USA with my adult DD and it was the only place we felt truly unsafe)
We hated San Francisco too. Felt totally unsafe and uncomfortable. We left a day early as it was grim. Alcatraz was great but the city and Fisherman’s Wharf were not. Really don’t get what people like about it.
seekinglondonlife · 27/01/2022 22:37

@AuntyBumBum came on to say Giant's Causeway! It's soooo much nicer in the pictures!

Marbella
Casablanca

Emms86 · 27/01/2022 22:38

When did you last visit?!

Smallkeys · 27/01/2022 22:38

Reading back lots of people saying Naples is great I must have gone on a bad day it was a one day visit !

nonono1 · 27/01/2022 22:38

Anyone who found NYC underwhelming clearly didn’t do it right!

IcedPurple · 27/01/2022 22:38

@GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing

Naples. Definitely Naples.

No way. Just no way!

I was going to start a list of places that massively exceeded expectations just to say Naples! Shock

Agree with that. Naples is wonderful. Maybe a bit rough in parts but if you have your wits about you you'll be fine. It's dirty and gritty, but the food is without compare, the people are a hoot and there's a gem around every corner.
Figgyboa · 27/01/2022 22:38

New York. I lived in London when I visited so it just felt like another big, expensive city

rookiemere · 27/01/2022 22:38

I'm from Northern Ireland originally and I love the Giants Causeway and all the legends built up around it. I agree though Belfast is awful to visit, DH, DS and I did the tour bus and it was just an embarrassment as they took us past the streets at the centre of the troubles and the Crumlin Jail. The Titanic exhibition was also fairly dull.

I don't think anyone has nominated Sorrento yet. I was so disappointed by it, felt like a small scale Magaluf rather than an Italian coastal resort. Great base for Capri and other places though.

HelloFrostyMorning · 27/01/2022 22:39

Cornwall

Stonehenge

Not a place but a painting.. The Mona Lisa. A bit 'meh' and stupidly small.

Liv999 · 27/01/2022 22:39

Egypt
Went years ago with a friend, dirty, food was shit and we felt very unsafe walking the streets, constant hassle from men, pyramids were amazing to see but wont be returning anytime soon

Bonnealle · 27/01/2022 22:39

LA - dirty, polluted, didn’t hire a car and the waking bordered on dangerous. Just so dull, I hated it.
Las Vegas - I’m not sure how people can spend more than two days there, dry heat outside, freezing inside, again reliant on cars
Padstow - no charm

Love Venice, Paris, Naples. Love Venice so much as there are no cars and so much to see (maybe it’s a theme with me as live in London and although have a car don’t use it that often), I’ve been so many times and only seen about a 10th of it, which is surprising as it’s so tiny!

Celia66 · 27/01/2022 22:39

Some of m6 favourite places mentioned here!

Mine would be

Barcelona - ok, but I don't get why people rave about it
Monaco
Dubai

mrsrobin · 27/01/2022 22:39

Vienna

lllllllllll · 27/01/2022 22:40

Also really dislike London

I don’t understand how you can dislike the whole of London. There are so many distinct parts and there’s endless stuff to do. Your loss!

CrimbleCrumble1 · 27/01/2022 22:40

nonono1 any New York tips, I’m going in May for the first time?
