For me, it was Paris. Not an AIBU, I know

OP posts:
Twinkleylight · 28/01/2022 07:58

Dubai. It's Milton Keynes with sunny weather, beach and concrete building s with a massive modern slavery problem.

GreenClock · 28/01/2022 07:58

Dublin. Galway was so much better.

Toomuchnow · 28/01/2022 07:59

Paris

It’s shit. I don’t get the love for it.

duvetdayforeveryone · 28/01/2022 08:00

Barcelona.

rambleonplease · 28/01/2022 08:00

Cairo!

AbsentmindedWoman · 28/01/2022 08:02

I must be easily pleased, I generally knock enjoyment out of everywhere I go Grin

OhWhyNot · 28/01/2022 08:03

Goa full off grubby trustafarians who love to tell everyone how evil capitalism/the west is. The beaches are not great (unless you go south) Kerela is so much nicer

Melbourne It’s a nice city but having heard how amazing it was (never met people so proud of their city) I was underwhelmed. I preferred Sydney but it’s a nice place

FindingMeno · 28/01/2022 08:04

I actually would like to return to Paris now with a different mindset and see if I could like it.
Perhaps at a quieter time of year than I have before.
I really want to like it!

TurkeyRoastvBubbleandSqueek · 28/01/2022 08:04

@SunflowerSmith

Eden Project - an expensive way to walk around two greenhouses.

Scottish Highlands - miles and miles and miles of bleak nothingness with hardly anywhere to park up and walk the dog. Arisaig beach however is stunning.

The Scottish Highlands? They are my favourite place on Earth! They are stunningly beautiful all year around, but get some snow on them, well they are Heaven on Earth to me ❤ I just wish so many Scottish people didn't hate us English so much...
Peaseblossum22 · 28/01/2022 08:04

Carcassonne , Granada is lovely though .

rookiemere · 28/01/2022 08:05

I really liked Whitby Blush.

Dora33 · 28/01/2022 08:05

Rome
Glasgow
Paris

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 28/01/2022 08:05

@WeasilyPleased

The Grand Canyon. It's a big hole.
😀😀
sometimespeopletakethepiss · 28/01/2022 08:05

Dubai. Awful, concrete jungle, superficial 🤮

dorkfink · 28/01/2022 08:06

@rookiemere I did too, we were lucky with the weather but i thought it was great

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 28/01/2022 08:07

@RosesAndHellebores

It also depends how happy you are at the time.
I absolutely agree with this. I think mood can dictate everything.
Laiste · 28/01/2022 08:11

Tunisia

''In Your Dreams You've Been To Tunisa''? Nopes. It's hot, it has beaches, but it has huge hotels with fridges and burned out cars on wastelands between them.

People saying harassed in Sharm el Sheik; you're not encouraged to wander round the 'town'. It's really not part of the deal. Sharm is a collection of big hotel complexes by the shore with the sinai desert behind it. You can only get there by plane. And yes women don't work at the resort at all so it'll only be men in the town. Your hotel and stretch of beach is meant to be your base for orgainised mountain excursions and short flights out of the airport to cairo/pyramids/nile trips ect.

I adored my trip to sharm :)

Phos · 28/01/2022 08:12

Cape Town.

Everyone raves about it but I found it dull, uninspiring, a nightmare to get around and generally nothing particularly interesting about the place.

Indecisive29 · 28/01/2022 08:12

@Hairbrush123 100% agree on Paris!! Some good shops and some nice food but we were constantly approached by people begging and the place smelt a bit like wee 🙈🤣 don’t even get me started on the metro stations 🤢

DH and I went in our mid 20s for 4 night with the intention of spending a few days in Paris and a couple at Disney - we spent 1 day in Paris then went to Disney for the rest 🤣 we even changed our hotel and went and stayed in Disney 🤣 highly recommended - it was fab 🤣

Infinitemoon · 28/01/2022 08:12

Anywhere that is a tourists spot. I think 30 years' ago, lots of these places would have been ok to visit. I tend to go destinations that are not on the map now and honestly think the UK has some of the best places to visit.

Newgirls · 28/01/2022 08:13

Centre parcs - a portacabin in a wood with burger chains.

Never again. Just book a cottage in a pretty rural area and go to the local pool, much calmer and cheaper.

Evilpixie41 · 28/01/2022 08:16

Jamaica

When we got to our exclusive 5 star resort we were told it was unsafe to leave the hotel without a guard, or to talk 'to the locals'. So everyone felt too scared to anything that involved leaving the building. The worst part for me though was looking out of the window of my maid serviced, air conditioned, all round perfect suite and seeing people begging in the streets or when going on a day trip having people actually running along side the bus and putting their hands through the windows for money.

This was in the 90s and I was just 13 and just felt like a spoiled white princess my entire stay and deeply ashamed of myself for my family to be living in luxury in a country so obviously struggling with poverty. It was a real life lesson and not a pleasant one.

On our last day my parents walked outside of the gates of the hotel and gave a bunch of American dollers to everyone that walked past in an attempt to salve their guilt.

OMG12 · 28/01/2022 08:16

Paris, total shit hole (quite literally in places)

Indecisive29 · 28/01/2022 08:16

I just wish so many Scottish people didn't hate us English so much...

I agree, the Highlands are stunning ❤️ And there’s absolutely no hate here unless you refuse to accept my hard earned cash as tender 😉Grin

radishandbrie · 28/01/2022 08:16

I loved pisa but hated the leaning tower area
Loved Athens but hated visiting all the tourists monuments being barged out the way by selfie takers.
I didn't like Venice it felt it has no actual heart left just a disney place
New york agree was underwhelmed and I had such high expectations.
Dundee - for some reason I thought I would love it but was so underwhelmed.
