For me, it was Paris. Not an AIBU, I know

OP posts:
someoneseatenmyapple · 28/01/2022 06:11

Cornwall.

cjpark · 28/01/2022 06:13

LA and Orlando.
The kids loved Orlando but for me it was a 2 week endurance test! Awful food, too busy and too much hype and expectation

SnotRags · 28/01/2022 06:25

@Vicliz24

For me my top three are 1. Santorini - stunning villages on the caldera - rest of the island really meh .
  1. Berlin- everyone raved about it we found it really depressing.
  2. Mauritius- we married there . Nice but not anywhere close to the paradise I was expecting.
My son said Berlin was really depressing too, he hated it.
tara66 · 28/01/2022 06:27

Bahamas and St Kitts. There is virtually no beach at St Kitts.

Darbs76 · 28/01/2022 06:30

Dubai. Open your eyes and get off your sunbed and see how the workers are treated. Such an undercurrent there, speak to a few staff and they will tell you their story. It still affects me now those conversations we had, made worse when our hotel driver came bumper to bumper with another car so someone needed to reverse - driver got out and said ‘you’re a service worker, so you need to reverse’, and he did.

@Campervan69

Morocco. Hated the creepy men and subjugation of the local women.
Totally agree, for exactly the same reasons.
KissKissButtCheek · 28/01/2022 06:31

Paris - hated the place, felt unsafe and couldn't wait to leave
New York- horrible bustling place
Iceland - sooooo expensive and just not what I was expecting

UnsuitableHat · 28/01/2022 06:31

Another one for Dublin, not because it’s an awful place but because it’s so hyped that it almost couldn’t fail to feel underwhelming. It’s grown on me a lot on subsequent visits, as places do.

Darbs76 · 28/01/2022 06:33

For those who say NYC and the poster who was worried as she was going - I loved it and I live near London. But I still think London is better. Prepare for the homelessness, you think you’ve seen it as london has many homeless sleepers but this is a different level. Rubbish - everywhere, the shops don’t have any back alleys etc so all the rubbish goes out on the pavement / side of the road

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 28/01/2022 06:38

Venice. We went in winter and it was still as crowded as Ikea on a bank holiday. Many European cities are nicer without the crowds and the notices forbidding sitting down in the squares! We tried to take less famous/ popular streets and were confronted with piles of what looked like human feaces in narrower cut throughs. None of us would go back...

dorkfink · 28/01/2022 06:41

Been to nyc many many times but can totally take it or leave it
Live in central London which generally trumps it

I do agree that NY was disappointing, I had such high expectations though but just found it a bit blah & as a born & raised Londoner, London is far superior. The best thing was I shopped till I dropped as the exchange rate was good.

Cornwall is nice but not so nice that it's worth the crowds, prices, traffic, long journeys to me but others obvs think differently.

I enjoyed LA, had no expectations but liked the laid back ness & had some amazing food.

TenoringBehind · 28/01/2022 06:42

Dublin. Dull and litter everywhere.

I think Paris has a lot going for it and is interesting to walk around but I don’t love it.

Fedupofballs · 28/01/2022 06:46

Sharm el Sheikh for me. We decided to go for some winter sun and snorkelling, but the shark attacks happened and no one could go into the sea, or on the beach. We didn’t feel safe leaving the hotel (bomb checks at every opportunity), and the only edible food was the pasta/omelette. Everyone got tummy upsets… Only 2 pools in the hotel were usable, one was a silent pool (not adults only, but you got told off for talking), leaving only the family pool which was rammed! The other 2 pools were freezing with no one in them. The only positive was the weather was pretty good for January

Henlie · 28/01/2022 06:49

Bangkok for me. Felt on edge the whole time. Too busy and dirty for my liking, just couldn’t relax. I actually felt that way about our entire visit to Thailand. Although loved the scenery and food.

I really like Rome, Venice, Prague, Amsterdam and Paris.

New York was good fun, but I prefer the feel of Boston. Agree about LA, very underwhelming.

FanGirlX · 28/01/2022 06:50

@Campervan69

Morocco. Hated the creepy men and subjugation of the local women.
Would be great if it wasn't for the creepy men.
UseOfWeapons · 28/01/2022 06:52

New York.
Dated, dirty, and up itself. Wouldn’t bother again, but glad I went once.
Felt like it was stuck in the Eighties.

SomewhereOnlyIKnow · 28/01/2022 06:53

Paris - dirty, over priced, horrible place. Wouldn’t go again.
Barcelona - felt a bit unsafe, overrated, would never go again.
Jamaica - security needed on the beaches, felt very unsafe out of the hotel and tourist places, wouldn’t go again.

dorkfink · 28/01/2022 06:54

Aruba. Some nice hotels and beaches but then just scrub and cactus. Nothing to really do.

It's a beach resort though, so what do you expect? Same for Maldives etc.

I did a trip to the national park, natural pool, boat trips, diving, hired a car. I found the food options very good & diverse for a small place.

SomewhereOnlyIKnow · 28/01/2022 06:54

Thailand - never again. The beaches weren’t as nice as you see on pictures.

marieantoinehairnet · 28/01/2022 06:59

New York, what a cesspit

DePfeffoff · 28/01/2022 07:01

Monaco. It's just a big built-up town and the coastline is spoilt by the harbour.

LongLive89 · 28/01/2022 07:05

Underwhelming -
Positano - just a big no. Crowded. Overpriced. The colourful buildings are not lovely up close.
Naples - dangerous

Exceeded expectations
Berlin - fascinating. Loved it. I was not excited at all about visiting.
Salt Lake City - gorgeous and perfect climate.

LongLive89 · 28/01/2022 07:06

Also Dublin.

Like Blackpool but ££££

Alexandra2001 · 28/01/2022 07:13

Lands End... What should be a beautiful place ruined by greed - like most of Cornwall itself.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/01/2022 07:19

Australia. Not as beautiful as UK. The cows looks starved. Miles and miles of nothingness. Occasional Wild West style town. Like going back in time. Definitely stuck in the 1980’s.

Also New York. The Statue of Liberty is very much smaller in RL than depicted on films.
