Just caught Dh doing this. I have told him to put them in the oven where they belong. AIBU

YAB V U...I only realised you could do this recently and it was life changing with a very fussy toddler who sometimes will only eat potato waffles! They're crispier in the toaster I think, lovely!

LeSquigh · 26/01/2022 22:21

Waffles have an oil coating so you would do well to ensure that the drip trays are cleaned out thoroughly after every use. Heating pizza in a toaster is a silly idea.

There are multiple examples of fires caused by cooking things such as these in toasters so please be careful and never leave them unattended.

OneTC · 26/01/2022 22:27

Yeah oh showed me this recently after I'd been cooking them in the oven all my life

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 26/01/2022 22:28

Potato waffles in one side, fish fingers in the other (in a toaster bag).

funinthesun19 · 26/01/2022 22:30

I’ve done this many times. Fast, easy, yummy!

angelikacpickles · 26/01/2022 22:31

YABU. Everyone I know did this when we were kids.

Bimblybomeyelash · 26/01/2022 22:31

I never realised waffles were so popular! I’ve only cooked them a few times, but always with other freezer to oven delights, so they just get whacked in with the fishfingers/nuggets etc. But then I prefer to use The grill even for my toast.

JohnStonesMissus · 26/01/2022 22:33

I've always done this but it takes a couple goes in the toaster before they go crispy! So much quicker than putting them the oven though...

NeverTalksToStrangers · 26/01/2022 22:34

@KrisAkabusi

I've been doing it for decades. Most brands say on the box that they can be toasted. Go apologize to your husband!
Me too. Since the 90s.
liveforsummer · 26/01/2022 22:36

@HelloFrostyMorning

Oh ignore me. I am getting breakfast waffles mixed up with OVEN waffles!! Sorry! Blush
You can put both in the toaster. I was taught the latter by my boss.
liveforsummer · 26/01/2022 22:38

@madisonbridges

If you can out frozen potaro waffles in the toaster, can you put frozen hash browns in there?
They go a bit floppy when cooking, I think their end up down in the elements

I think they've become more popular since word got round you could do this. I appreciate some have had the sense to do it all the time but for many this came out sometime during lockdown #1. Birdseye changed the packaging to include the info after it went viral on SM
hollyisKey · 26/01/2022 22:44

Never knew this.
What happens to the ice? Does it melt and leave a puddle of water in the toaster?

mdinbc · 26/01/2022 22:45

Never have heard of potato waffles before; I'm in Canada.

Why oh why do we not have such a thing available? I may have to try a homemade recipe.

AdaColeman · 26/01/2022 22:46

Hash browns would work in a toaster bag!

liveforsummer · 26/01/2022 22:48

I'm it sure it doesn't brown and crop things enough inside a toaster bag but tbh the only acceptable way to cook a hash brown is to deep fry anyway.

Evaporates the same as when you toast frozen bread

Exactly the same thing that happens when you put frozen bread in
deathofastrawberry · 26/01/2022 23:21

Thank you for this amazing idea GrinGrinGrin

BabyInTheJungle · 27/01/2022 17:26

I feel duped.

Off the back of this thread I tried putting waffles in the toaster for the kids tea. The result after a very short time cooking was black round the edges, cold in the centre. The kids wouldn't touch them and they were the last 4 we had so it was toast on the side of their chicken nuggets...

“the only acceptable way to cook a hash brown is to deep fry…”

Unless you have an air fryer of course, in which case that is far superior to deep frying.

Zandathepanda · 27/01/2022 21:00

Baby so sorry my Dh ruined your tea by this (suspect) idea that waffles can be toasted. I will tell him ‘I told you so!’

Absolutely YABU.

I always cook them this way.

My favourite junk food, topped with beans and cheese...heavenly.

I'm curious about an air fryer but not taken the plunge yet. Hash browns need to be crispy yet greasy. Are they greasy enough in the AF?

5keletor · 27/01/2022 22:12

Ugh I saw this suggested on the side of the box, sounds vile! No way would I put them in the toaster, oven only. 😁
