Just caught Dh doing this. I have told him to put them in the oven where they belong. AIBU

Delicious toasted! ..But I only buy the branded ones..Haven't bought any in years..this has reminded me how nice they are with ketchup and grated cheese.

BlueyandBingo · 26/01/2022 21:20

Waffles are one of my favourite things. I think I quite possibly read on here about toasting them a few years ago… I do toast them if doing them for dd or I am in a rush but I do prefer them in the ovens

AdaColeman · 26/01/2022 21:27

I use toaster bags for all kinds of things, waffles, cheese sandwiches, ham & cheese sandwiches, potato cakes, blinis etc etc.

BarbaraofSeville · 26/01/2022 21:28

And I agree with the pp that I pay the extra for the Birds Eye ones just for the convenience of using the toaster

We get Aldi or Morrisons waffles and do them in the toaster (two cycles on maximum, press the frozen button first time down, I like them crispy) no problems. Fast and nice waffles and toaster appears to survive the ordeal. Saves putting the oven on too, we're saving the planet here, people.

I use mine in a dupe of the gone and much missed McDonalds breakfast wrap. Waffle in toaster, make a one egg omelette in a medium frying pan, put waffle in for second cycle, microwave two quorn cocktail sausages for 30 s, stick a wrap on top of the sausages and micro for another 30 s, by now your omelette and waffle should be ready. Stick the omelette on the wrap, split the sausages and put on top, cut the waffle in half long ways, squirt of brown sauce, assemble the wrap, done.

BarbaraofSeville · 26/01/2022 21:29

I learned you could toast waffles from the Morrisons instructions, it said on there.

BarbaraofSeville · 26/01/2022 21:30

@SilentNoMore

Well not pies, but turn a toaster on its side and it is perfect for reheating pizza.
Seriously? I do the hot frying pan to do the bottom then put the frying pan under a hot grill to do the top method.

Ends up better than first time round as more crispy.

Belledan1 · 26/01/2022 21:32

I do both. Depends what I am cooking. Sometimes I finish them off in the toaster to give them a bit of colour

Dixiechickonhols · 26/01/2022 21:33

Best done in airfryer

Zandathepanda · 26/01/2022 21:34
Shock Flabbergasted. Haven’t had waffles in years. This is what happens when I give the click and collect order to Dh. Ok he’s going to love the voting! Still not happy with them going in toaster but may have to compromise with 2 designated slots each. Don’t want my teacake polluted.

I airfryed some today and they were next level! So tasty

Cuwins · 26/01/2022 21:34

I only discovered this a year or so ago when someone at work was doing it. I was amazed I had never thought of this! Can't eat them currently but when I can again I will definitely be trying the toaster at home.

Hippophile · 26/01/2022 21:36

Toaster waffles with truffle oil and sea salt

Food of the gods

Gardenista · 26/01/2022 21:36

Been toasting waffles since the 1980s.

You can also toast these veggie burgers- come out nicely too

DwangelaForever · 26/01/2022 21:38

The only way they get cooked in my house. Absolutely converted to the toaster method now.

JustDanceAddict · 26/01/2022 21:39

I toast them now too!!

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 26/01/2022 21:39

Neither, put them in the air fryer (if you have one!)

stayathomer · 26/01/2022 21:41

Yabu, they taste better out of the toaster!!!

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 26/01/2022 21:42

My toaster has a special pie setting Hmm

trunktoes · 26/01/2022 21:44

I grill them - people put them in the oven??

KurtWilde · 26/01/2022 22:01

Now we all want waffles.. wonder if I can get to tesco before it closes...

I remember trying to cook a Findua Crispy Pancake in the toaster when I was about 10. Didn't work, unsurprisingly.

DS makes vegan cheese toasties by tipping the toaster on its side.

fluffythedragonslayer · 26/01/2022 22:03

It literally tells you on the box to put them in the toaster.

I used to.do.it as a kid, made my dad furious. When his toaster stopped working, years after I'd moved out, he blamed my years of waffle cooking. I was so smug when I showed him the box recently telling me to do just that!

WildNorthEast · 26/01/2022 22:05

NO NO NO OP - Your DH is very wrong (and so is my DH). I will never be converted. The oven is where they belong, they get cooked so much better in there, crispier outside layer. And the smell when they're cooked in the toaster is really horrible for some reason.

Silverswirl · 26/01/2022 22:06

I’ve toasted potato waffles in the toaster for years. Hundreds of times for 3 kids.
Brilliant time saver and oven tray saver. Push down 3 times for my toaster and done.

LinguaFranca · 26/01/2022 22:09

I am a recent convert to the toaster method, having spent three years oven cooking them.

Advantage: I no longer need to use the side oven just for the waffles which require a higher oven temperature than the rest of the children's food.

Disadvantage: I have burnt my toast several times the next morning, as I forgot to turn down the toaster setting afterwards.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 26/01/2022 22:18

I used to grill them with cheese on. Then I started to toast and melt the cheese in the microwave
Both work.
Have never put a waffle in the oven in my life. Who has time for that? Grin
