Are Covid numbers MUCH higher than they seem.

Myself and DH have done LFT And PCR and we have Covid.
When talking to others who have had positive LFT ‘s , I am amazed how few people are reporting the results , and very few are taking PCR’s.
This obviously means that the numbers that are reported daily are not correct, snd in fact I reckon the numbers might be nearer double what is reported.
So , given that MNet’s a cross section - if you’ve had it did you report it snd become one of the reported figures ?

Yes?
No?

I don't know about reporting or not reporting LFTs but apparently reported numbers in England don't include people who have had Covid previously, yet, apparently 2/3 of people who had omicron had had Covid previously .

If all those people aren't being included numbers must be massively higher than what is reported .

Wrongkindofovercoat · 26/01/2022 20:28

If you are fully vaccinated, you don't need to self isolate even if a member of your family has tested positive ? I think this is the current guidance ?

WonderfulYou · 26/01/2022 20:30

Yes if you’re a close contact you don’t need to isolate if you’ve had 2 doses of vaccinations.

If you’re unvaccinated you need to isolate for 10 days if you’ve been in contact with a positive case.

littlepeas · 26/01/2022 20:32

Ds is currently positive and we didn’t report it. The reason is we didn’t want to deal with t&t again - it was awful and so intrusive - we are otherwise behaving according to the rules.

Iggly · 26/01/2022 20:33

Why can’t they just have a scan with a yes/no tickbox

I agree! It’s too bloody fiddly

megletthesecond · 26/01/2022 20:34

Yes wrong me and DD can get out as we're fully vaccinated and having negative tests so far. I'm so relieved she had her 2nd jab in the nick of time.

Houseofvelour · 26/01/2022 20:39

I had it and didn't report it.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 26/01/2022 20:43

Did you self isolate @Houseofvelour ?

Summersdreaming · 26/01/2022 20:47

Apparently reinfections are being counted from 31st Jan so that will be interesting, despite being 18 months too late Hmm.

I've never reported a negative lft other than to dd's school. I didn't report my second infection for all the reasons already mentioned.

tiggergoesbounce · 26/01/2022 20:50

Ohhh @sanbeiji you are so right.

Its a 2 second job to report them and i need to do it for work, so yes i reported mine.

I know many who wont have the app and who dont report their LFTs they have done.
It does mean that this is another way to make the figures inaccurare, although i dont think they are particularly reliable with this aside anyway.
These people are isolating though if they test positive.

Jojibear · 26/01/2022 20:51

We had it at Christmas. My husband first to test positive on a lateral flow then a PCR.

I testes positive on a lateral flow but didn't do a PCR.

Didn't test our baby but he was pretty ill with it.

So 1 out of 3 in our household reported it. I didn't as was knackered and ill and looking after a sick baby and couldn't be bothered to go out and do a PCR when it was obvious I had it.

tiggergoesbounce · 26/01/2022 20:53

Oh and yes the track and trace system is just ludicrous, it seems to just duplicate the information you have already given to set your account up in the first place. Very annoying when feeling really ill and the repeated calls

Thankfully i wasnt positive in the times when they were ringing daily to check people were indoors isolating.

neverbeenskiing · 26/01/2022 20:58

I work in a secondary school. We currently have over 50 staff off with covid. We are still asking students to test twice a week but lots aren't so cases not being picked up. My toddlers nursery has been closed all week due to so many staff having covid and my DD's primary school have said that they are on the verge of having to close to some year groups. A school down the road has had to close completely. Anecdotally, a lot of people aren't reporting results and I think that case numbers are much higher than the government would have people believe.

Rocket1982 · 26/01/2022 21:01

It seems to have dropped from the peak as there are fewer hospitalisations. But if its mainly kids getting it at the moment notmany of them would be hospitalised.

Suzi888 · 26/01/2022 21:01

In Wales- the figures are completely bonkers. Lots of fraud, lots of people trying to report people turning up to do tests on behalf of others- all to claim the £750 grant. Rules are different here, it’s easy to claim.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 26/01/2022 21:03

DH had a positive PCR when he was intending to travel, so that was reported automatically by the company that did the PCR. He isolated along with me and the DC and the rest of us kept doing antigen (lateral flow) tests. After a week I tested positive but it was at the stage when there was a sudden rise in cases so I just couldn't get a PCR booked anywhere but it was before they were so overwhelmed that they would accept people self-reporting with an antigen positive. So mine never got recorded.

I wasn't too worried as we were all isolating like mad so it didn't matter too much that the CDC (our version of track and trace) didn't know about me because I hadn't been in contact with anyone since a week before my positive test and I then did the full 10 day isolation once I had the positive. So there were no contacts at all to report.

Houseofvelour · 26/01/2022 21:06

@Wrongkindofovercoat

Did you self isolate *@Houseofvelour* ?
Of course I did.
PaperMonster · 26/01/2022 21:07

I tested positive this week on an LFT and the advice now is that you don’t have to do a PCR. I reported my positive just as I’ve been reporting my negatives.

MrsJBaptiste · 26/01/2022 21:16

I had Covid a couple of weeks ago. Had symptoms, positive LFT, isolated for 7 days and notified the NHS which was a goddamn pain...

DS tested positive on Monday, he'll stay in until he has a negative LFT, job done. I haven't bothered notifying the NHS this time. Why bother? It doesn't make any difference now.

crazyjinglist · 26/01/2022 21:17

Wow - 50% of kids off in some of your schools? I teach in several local schools and the numbers of kids off is pretty low. I've had quite a few classes recently with full attendance, and maybe a maximum of 5 off out of 30 in the others, mostly more like 2 or 3.

CroftPlace · 26/01/2022 21:18

I reported my positive. No contact at all from T&T. I've been in 4 different schools the days prior. Schools are struggling more than ever for staff.

Government don't want us to report as BJ needs to be able to keep spouting about what a difference his vaccination programme has made. He's using our health and children's education to try and get himself out of his sh*t. Despicable.

FancySomeChips · 26/01/2022 21:20

I have 12 kids in my class with COVID.
The others haven’t even been tested despite all the coughing in each other’s faces constantly.
It’s a joke, oh and we have a nit EXPLOSION too. Love my job right now.

CroftPlace · 26/01/2022 21:20

And to add, we had 3256 children absent with Covid yesterday in my LA. So disruptive for kids education.

littlepeas · 26/01/2022 21:22

Yep! When we had it in October we ended up going round in circles with them - each of us tested positive days apart and we had to have the same phone call x4 that took 25 minutes each time despite us only being in contact with each other! I hung up on them the last time - it was infuriating. How can such an expensive system be so utterly SHIT! And then all the extra calls to doubly, triply, quadruply, etc, etc, remind us that we were supposed to stay in the house.
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 26/01/2022 21:25

@Mummyoflittledragon

Why are people not reporting lateral flow results?! I do every time. So far all negative.
Because I have better things to do. I don't even know if I'd report a positive as I don't fancy being hassled by T&T. When DH had a PCR I told him if he was positive under no circumstances was he to give them my details as a contact.
