Are Covid numbers MUCH higher than they seem.

Myself and DH have done LFT And PCR and we have Covid.
When talking to others who have had positive LFT ‘s , I am amazed how few people are reporting the results , and very few are taking PCR’s.
This obviously means that the numbers that are reported daily are not correct, snd in fact I reckon the numbers might be nearer double what is reported.
So , given that MNet’s a cross section - if you’ve had it did you report it snd become one of the reported figures ?

Yes?
No?

@sst1234 if your registered and have a smart phon it takes a minute to report a lft

BugsyDrakeTableScape · 26/01/2022 20:00

@worriedatthemoment lucky you. I got endless phonecalls for me and my 3 kids - having reported all our results. At least one every other day. It was relentless. Hopefully they are better managed now (and this was with doing the email form)

Wrongkindofovercoat · 26/01/2022 20:05

DC has tested positive and there is no need to clarify with a PCR any longer according to school website unless for a few specific reasons, none of which apply to DC, so just retesting him daily with LFT. I am also testing daily with LFT, but so far negative. They are largely asymptomatic. Had a temp, fatigued but no cough or any other symptoms.
We already know Omicron is the dominant strain, so having a PCR seems an expensive way of finding out what you already know, especially if you are going to follow the current guidelines.

WhatICallMyUsername · 26/01/2022 20:05

I reported when DS had it and then they subsequently knew about the rest of us due to PCRs

I wouldn't report next time as T&T were a bloody pain in the arse. They actually told me they would ring me at least twice more, once to tell me I'd been in contact with DS1 and another to tell me DS2 had been in contact with DS1

They rang me continuously whilst I felt like shit so I wouldn't bother next time

WonderfulYou · 26/01/2022 20:07

In my school almost 50% of students are off with it and I expect it’s similar in most other schools.

WhatICallMyUsername · 26/01/2022 20:07

Also YABU to post this in AIBU and not the Covid one

worriedatthemoment · 26/01/2022 20:08

@BugsyDrakeTableScape I haven't had a single call luckily , I filled email in straight away and not heard since
Neither has ny ds I don't think but then again he just cancels any numbers he doesn't know so he may if and not realised

Theluggage15 · 26/01/2022 20:09

Who cares and there’s a covid section for this crap.

worriedatthemoment · 26/01/2022 20:09

Hasn't having a pcr after a lft just been put on hold though but may be required again assuming we continue testing at all
There will have to come a time when we stop surely ?

Wrongkindofovercoat · 26/01/2022 20:11

I haven't reported it to the NHS site because we have no mobile signal and can't get the code in a timely fashion by text to do it online, I have to leave the house and wander up the road about 500m to get a text and by the time I get back it has timed out, so gave up. If anyone can suggest a way of doing it without using a mobile phone, I am happy to do it.

Daisychainsandglitter · 26/01/2022 20:12

yanbu- I had covid over new year confirmed by a lateral flow. I caught it from DH who had a confirmed PCR test result.
I tried booking a PCR several times but all of the test centres near me had run out of tests. After a couple of days I gave up as I knew I had it anyway and didn't bother reporting the result.

lumpofcomfort · 26/01/2022 20:13

If far fewer PCR tests are being done, that will also have an impact on scientific research.

Sunshinedreaming2022 · 26/01/2022 20:13

Cases are way higher then the official numbers. Aside from there being kids of people who are only doing lft and not pcrs anymore, but also because reinfections are not counted in the official stats. The 102202 positive tests today are only those that have never tested positive before, and yesterday the news was about 2/3rds or cases are reinfections so there was probably more like 300000 positive pcrs today. And again, many people aren’t even going for them now they have been told not too even with a positive lft.
Listen to the ONS figures and look at daily deaths as they will give a much clearer idea of what is going on.

Sunshinedreaming2022 · 26/01/2022 20:14

Meant to say loads of people, not kids of people. No idea why autocorrect thought I meant kids

Sartre · 26/01/2022 20:14

Maybe but as others have said, it’s time to stop reporting the numbers now. It’s totally unnecessary.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 26/01/2022 20:16

I didn't realise that re-infections are not being counted, does anyone have a link to an official government site stating this ?

DinosApple · 26/01/2022 20:16

I filled in a close contacts form online for DD1 on Monday. I'd already notified the people we'd seen, and her school so I guess it was almost pointless. They do seem to have informed the GP though.

DD was negative on LFTs, but positive on a PCR (high temp, been very well). Took 48 for her to get a positive on a LFT.

We couldn't isolate from DD1 and now awaiting PCR results too (DH & DD2 have symptoms now).

ChannelLightVessel · 26/01/2022 20:19

I had a positive LFT today, and I reported it. T & T was fine, though they need to have a less cumbersome way of reporting popping into half a dozen different shops. I then had one text re. DD: she’s off sick, obviously with COVID, but hasn’t managed a positive LFT yet. Why wouldn’t you report it?

Tunnocks34 · 26/01/2022 20:19

Reported first time. Didn’t second. Track and trace got on my fucking nerves ringing me every day to check I was in the house. YES I AM FUCK OFF.

The second time I did an LFT and followed the isolation rules without doing anything else

OwlIceCrem · 26/01/2022 20:19

Husband and both kids tested positive on LFTs last week. I’ve been testing negative throughout. Reported them all online. I then received so many calls and messages from Test and Trace it was like harassment, to the point where I actually filed an official complaint- at one point, 15 calls per day. I won’t bother reporting again.

EatYourVegetables · 26/01/2022 20:20

People should be reporting LTFs. We did. Every box says in huge letters “PLEASE REPORT ALL YOUR TEST RESULTS TO THE NHS”.

sanbeiji · 26/01/2022 20:21

YANBU.
Lots of people don’t know you can report LFTs.
They just get it, stay home and CBA with PCR

Wnkingawalrus · 26/01/2022 20:22

If real case numbers are actually much higher this is great news. Means the link to hospitalisation and death is even weaker than the stats suggest.

Sunshinedreaming2022 · 26/01/2022 20:23

I didn't realise that re-infections are not being counted, does anyone have a link to an official government site stating this ?

I can’t be bothered to hunt for a link sorry, but I believe the reasoning is because without doing the full on strain testing, it could just be the same infection showing up.
This is the link from the bbc article today Two-thirds with Omicron say they have had Covid before www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-60132096

sanbeiji · 26/01/2022 20:23

Mine don’t have that. It’s only in the booklet. The ONE time I tried to report it crashed, then couldn’t find me , so I had to fill out a load of stuff.

CBA. All negative.

Why can’t they just have a scan with a yes/no tickbox…
