To be annoyed that none of my neighbours appear to ahve read the letter from the council about refuse collections over the holidays!

We got a letter a few weeks ago with a chart telling what bin would be lifted and when. So we were due a collection yesterday, but it clearly stated on the letter that all collections would be a day later, in the case of Fridays, it would be the Monday after. Yesterday every single neighbour put their bins out. They were all still out last night ( why wouldn't they take them back in, if the bin men hadn't been?). this morning I get up to find bin bags all over the place - 2 on my front doorstep - and some bags had been torn open by birds/cats/rats and their was rubbish everywhere!

I forgot that it was bin day here yesterday but magically my bin was outside the gate when i opened the front door!! I rang my dn's husband up and it wasnt him! I must have a bin fairy i dont know about!!

yes that's very enjoying. There seems to be so much confusion about rubbish collections in the UK.

sugarplumfairy · 29/12/2007 08:54

We had stickers on our bins to tell us when the bin would be collected but most people on the street just put them out on our normal collection day! we have wheely bins so there wasn't any mess the same happens whenever there's a bank holiday too.

My neighbours have all diligently put both black and green bins out today, I didn't have the heart to tell them the green bin was collected as usual yesterday morning at the ungodly hour of 0750. Caught me by surprise too, I don't think there was anything on the leaflet that said "this only applies to your black bin".

So I've put my green bin out as well today in the hopes that they might come back!

There's mayhem round 'ere.

Some people won't be getting their rubbish collected for two weeks. Everyone else is on a carefully scheduled plan, involving no sense at all, and some have had their bins collected again after 3 days.

There were about 3 bags out for collection on the right day this week. I was very nervous putting mine out because I began to get refuse paranoia. WHat if I and the other three people misread the leaflet? What if collecting times have changed, and I don't know about it? Will my rubbish be there for two weeks before I give up and drive the rancid thing to the dump?

THen I remembered how warm it was inside, where the wine was, and thought, Oh fuckit.

I dont know what our neighbours were thinking! We got the newsletter with the special bin collection days over Christmas... Our bin was to be collected on the same day as usual but most of the street didn't manage to put their bin out till the afternoon (its normally collected around 8am). Needless to say the place is strewn with christmas wrapping paper and packaging. There wont be another collection till after New Year. Grrrrrrr. I know that its easy for people to get confused about when the bins go out at this time of year, but why then leave them out for days on end?? No-one is going to collect them on a Saturday night!

Am finding this very interesting as we didn't get a printed letter, or reminder, in fact the only way to find out when the bins are coming is by looking online, and yet the entire street got it right!
Even on top of the fact that the normal rule is add a day for every bank holiday is not working this time, bins should have been collected Thursday by that rule, yet no bins went out until Thursday night, and all were gone on Friday.

Maybe there's some weird mind meld thing going on on my street....

LuckyStarOfBethSalem · 29/12/2007 21:07

We never got a leaflet or anything and our normal collections are on a thursday so we put our bins out on friday. They never came so assumed they weren't coming this week and brought back in. They came this morning

MaureenMLove · 29/12/2007 21:21

I had a convo with my neighbour about the fact that she had filled my glass box up and that she would remember to put hers and mine out on the right day, because she had filled them and I told her the wrong day! She never knows which day it should be out and I always know which day it should. Not this week obviously! Sorry lovely neighbour!

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 29/12/2007 21:24

I saw my neighbour had put theirs out this morning so i copied! I wasn't sure when collection was. But we didn't get any letter/notice.

LyraSilvertinsel · 29/12/2007 21:24

We didn't even get a letter this year. I looked it up on the website and it said rubbish would be collected two days early -Saturday morning. I saw this on Saturday night .
They must have realised their mistake in not sending out the letters because the bin men came on Monday anyway.
