These are my symptoms. What is wrong?

For as long as I can remember, I have very little energy beyond going to work as a teacher, sorting out my two kids, house and husband and general day to day stuff. I'm sick of feeling soooo tired. My exhaustion is now affecting my kids and husband.

Symptoms include: fatigue, exhaustion, never waking up refreshed, irritable, very low mood, tearfulness, slow weight gain, brain feels heavy sometimes and cannot juggle thoughts or tasks.

I've had blood taken recently and awaiting results but I'm worried. I'm worried there'll be something majorly wrong but at the same time worried there'll be absolutely nothing physically wrong so I cannot fix it.

Please help. I just feel like crying.

Sounds like a thyroid problem. However, years ago when I felt like you, it turned out to be coeliac disease. More recently, walking on cooked spaghetti legs, drained of all energy, it turned out that I was reacting to the statins I was prescribed....

MirabelM · 25/01/2022 19:47

FBC is also there, just my bad cropping.

I've just looked up celiac (sp?) and I don't have any bloating or pain. Just a bit windy!!

Thing is I crave carbs, bread etc to keep going....

Seems like neither thyroid function or sex hormones bloods have been requested. I think thyroid is most likely but peri menopause is also a possibility. How long has this been going on for?

MirabelM · 25/01/2022 19:49

To the PP who asked about a break. DH and I get nothing. Grandparents are loving but not geographically near enough or sometimes willing enough.

@turnaroundtime
Thyroid has been requested, I've probably cropped it off

I’m not a medic but under active thyroid presents like this .

surreygoldfish · 25/01/2022 19:57

They should be testing for peri menopause. They’ve not requested those bloods.

autienotnaughty · 25/01/2022 19:59

I'm the same but with heavy three weekly periods too. I got bloods low vitd and iron. I suspect I'm also peri menopausal but dr said hormone levels normal. Im43.

HeyBlaby · 25/01/2022 19:59

@roughmeasures

Sounds like Candida or mould overgrowth to me. If you can, seek out a Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist for some testing.

Cut our sugar and gluten, and alcohol, for 6 weeks. Up your leafy green intake too.

Jesus wept ignore this.
Zucchiniinabikini · 25/01/2022 20:01

I'll bet serious money it's b12 as soon as you mentioned tinnitus and craving carbs.

B12 helps you break down energy from food.

When it gets established it starts affecting your ears and nervous system.

Zucchiniinabikini · 25/01/2022 20:02

Do you take supplements?

DuvetHugger · 25/01/2022 20:04

OP I could have written this myself. I've just had my bloods back and I'm low in iron and folate, I've been put on tablets.

ofwarren · 25/01/2022 20:05

Sounds like my hashimos thyroid symptoms

Tigertigertigertiger · 25/01/2022 20:06

@HeyBlaby well said !

Also ignore the utter nonsense about root canal treatments.

User3456 · 25/01/2022 20:09

I've got ME/CFS. Could be that?
You need to get thyroid issues, diabetes, coeliac ruled out.
And iron, b12 and vitamin D levels checked.
Hope you start to feel better soon.

reallybroody · 25/01/2022 20:11

@MirabelM I'm exactly the same and have just been for bloods tonight.

I'm constantly exhausted, like I could sleep sitting up in the middle of our classroom, I'm freezing all the time, gained weight despite my diet not changing & I never actually seem to stop being on the go, very dry skin in places, hair seems brittle, palpitations at least once a week, very irritated by everything & on the brink of crying all the time.

I've been told it's either thyroid, long covid (despite never having it) or CF

ButterfliesAndDaffodils · 25/01/2022 20:12

I'm saying this with absolute kindness. Honestly. Asking strangers on the internet to diagnose you will only cause you so much stress and anxiety. Because we will all talk about our own medical conditions that have caused such symptoms (for me, hypothyroidism, Crohn's disease, and Ankylosing spondylitis, for my sibling, depression and anaemia so severe they required blood transfusions, for a friend, B12 deficiency). It could also be exhaustion caused by a demanding job and raising two children, could be peri menopause, vit-D deficiency, or any number of other things. The vast majority of which aren't terrifying.

I'm not criticising you, and I completely understand wanting to talk, and wanting anyone to provide some kind of answers. But yours are symptoms that could be caused by many different conditions, lots of which are yes, unpleasant but very manageable.

You really need to push for answers from your GP. Which I completely understand seems impossible when you're so tired, even brushing your teeth feels like an extreme effort. But it's the only way you'll get the help and answers that you need and deserve. If you need a hand hold, support, and maybe suggestions of what to ask in doing that, you'll get loads of those here and they will definitely be better for you. Hope you're doing okay.

Charliesgotachocolatefactory · 25/01/2022 20:12

I had similar to this - it was spectacularly low iron.

My symptoms were tiredness, breathlessness, tiredness, palpitations, tiredness, thinning hair, tiredness, dry skin, anxiety, tiredness, repeatedly getting chest and/or sinus infections. Did I mention the tiredness? I became a champion napper.

The great news is, if it’s iron deficiency, you’ll start to feel better really quickly and once your iron is back to “normal”, you will feel like superwoman!

Twospaniels · 25/01/2022 20:15

How old are you?

Peri menopause?

Sounds just like my sister was. HRT has been her saviour.

Have a look at Dr Louise Newson, and get her Balance app on your phone.you can record all your symptoms and get a report from it to take to your GP.

It's coeliac (English spelling). I was very windy and so exhausted I mainlined Mars bars to keep going..... The blood test is pretty accurate - but only if you have kept eating gluten containing foods for 6 (?) weeks before the test. The gold standard test is an endoscopy.
JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 25/01/2022 20:19

My GP arranged blood tests to diagnose hypothyroidism when I hadn't shrugged off a cold after three weeks (pre Covid). I didn't even know I was tired.

Louise Newson says many women are diagnosed with depression when it's peri menopause that is causingbthe symptoms you describe.
