Not to change the sheets??

Mooghulempress · 25/01/2022 16:29

Next week my parents are coming to stay for a night, so I’ve just cleaned the guest room sheets and made the bed fresh for them. Two days later, we are having a dinner party and a friend has just asked if she and her partner can stay over. AIBU to think that it’s OK not to change the sheets?? It just seems insane to change the sheets after one use, and both my parents shower before bed. But part of me also thinks this isn’t OK. Advice please!

Not for couples. I admit to having neglected to change the sheets on a guest bed when the previous occupant had worn pyjamas. But i did change the pillow case.

MilduraS · 25/01/2022 16:49

I wouldn't risk it. Nobody but me knows that my DH is the sweatiest sleeper on earth. I've leaned over to spoon and found him wrapped in cold wet sheets more times than I care to remember. An hour or two later and all evidence is gone.

Storminamu · 25/01/2022 16:53

If it looks and smells clean, it's clean.

Kabloom · 25/01/2022 16:54

I have a friend other friends refer to as Hairy Sheets Cathy. And it’s 30 years since I slept on someone else’s sheets.

BringMeTea · 25/01/2022 17:02

girlmom21 · 25/01/2022 17:04

This is a fantastic goady thread for MN Grin

TheMarmaladeYears · 25/01/2022 17:05

Has nobody thought to mention poo crumbs?

Vbree · 25/01/2022 17:09

Oh wow, totally unreasonable.

enidblyton33 · 25/01/2022 17:14

My MIL never changed the sheets between guests and also bought 2 sleeping bags for when the different grandchildren visited- these were never washed either!!
DH mentioned it and MIL couldn’t understand why we didn’t want to sleep in the same sheets as her previous guests. 🤢

melodypondisasuperhero · 25/01/2022 17:17

I have a friend who stays over most weekends and I don’t change the sheets more than once a month since it’s the same person sleeping in them 4/5 times. But with a different guest, yes I absolutely would.

FateHasRedesignedMost · 25/01/2022 17:18

Please change the sheets!

It’s grim to expect your parents to sleep in linen your friends spent the night in. They could have skin conditions you don’t know about like athletes foot or scabies or fungal toenails. People dribble on pillow cases and shed hair and skin. Sweat etc.

Your parents will know if you give them used sheets!

toastofthetown · 25/01/2022 17:18

Go for it OP! I know I just love snuggling down into a pillow that a stranger has dribbled on. If their sweaty bed sheets are still there all the better.

Loveisthere · 25/01/2022 17:20

Omg you are dirty

Footnote · 25/01/2022 17:22

Put the sheets on your bed if you want to and put clean ones on the guest bed.

queensonia · 25/01/2022 17:23

Changing the bedding will take you less time than it did to post this question and read all the replies

BooksAndHooks · 25/01/2022 17:24

Absolutely YABU I would not be at all impressed to sleep on sheets strangers have slept on for any period of time.

Redglitter · 25/01/2022 17:25

Oh even considering not changing them is manky

user1958493 · 25/01/2022 17:32

Why don't you ask your friends and see if they mind 🤣🤣 yuck

miltonj · 25/01/2022 17:32

Urgh.

BlowDryRat · 25/01/2022 17:34

YABU I think. I wouldn't mind if I was a family member of the previous guests but would think it was a bit ick if not. I don't know why it matters, but it does to me at least.

I am very relaxed compared to MN with washing, but you can't do that. Clean sheets for each person.
Gazelda · 25/01/2022 17:39

I think it'd be ok if you asked your DP if they'd had sex the night they stayed over.
Change them if there's sign of a wet patch

And offer to change them if your friend asks you to when you tell her they're not fresh sheets.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 25/01/2022 17:53

When you say you have “cleaned” the guest room sheets I have visions of you scraping them, or brushing them off, or giving them a wipe down!

I’m not overly particular, but even thinking about doing what you suggested make me itch a bit. What have you done previously when people stay over?
