Noisy dog walkers

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 24/01/2022 11:54

I live in a semi rural location that is popular with dog walkers and mountain bikers. My curtains were drawn, I was fast asleep until a group of dog walkers decided to stop right below my window. Like they were about 4ft from my front door. Talking, laughing, much hilarity and dogs barking and yapping.

I thought it was quite rude behaviour regardless of what time it was (9.30am)
It's very obvious that my curtains were drawn and someone was still sleeping.

I also should mention that I'm middle aged, hormonal and grumpy. I also have a condition that reacts badly to disturbed sleep. I also can't have caffeine.
I just needed to vent.

YANBU to be annoyed but that's the sort of behaviour you should expect from dog walkers. To be honest you should be thankful if they don't let their dogs piss and shit over your property.

I live in town, once a few years ago two dog walkers met outside my building. One of them had a yappy dog which yapped painfully every ten seconds. After the first hour of them being there one of my neighbours shouted at them to fuck off, the dog owner had the nerve to complain he was out of order because "it's a rescue dog" (what that had to do with it, I've no idea).

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 24/01/2022 11:59

9.30am is quite late though and a more than reasonable time for outside noise.

GrapefruitPink · 24/01/2022 12:00

09:30 is fine. Thought you were going to say 6/7am.
I don't always assume if curtains are closed someone is asleep.
I don't open mine as soon as I'm up for example.

WheelieBinPrincess · 24/01/2022 12:00

People are just really loud in general these days. They don’t make any effort to regulate their volume at all in a lot of cases. We don’t all need to hear what they’ve got to say, really.

I don’t know if you can really be too annoyed at 9:30 though. It’s a Monday and they wouldn’t have thought about people sleeping.

annonymousse · 24/01/2022 12:02

🤣🤣🤣 I hope this is tongue in cheek otherwise YABVU. At 9.30am I wouldn't assume someone was sleeping if the bedroom curtains were closed and if you really expect people to whisper and be quiet outside at 9.30am you aren't just unreasonable you are deluded

Tal45 · 24/01/2022 12:02

YABU - for all they know you just might not have pulled your curtains and it was hardly early in the morning. I doubt they even noticed your curtains were pulled anyway.

Haha 🤣 Get that stick out of your arse.
Lockheart · 24/01/2022 12:03

How dare people talk and laugh and make normal noise at 9.30 in the morning.

SoupDragon · 24/01/2022 12:04

but that's the sort of behaviour you should expect from dog walkers

Utterly ridiculous 😂😂

Honeyroar · 24/01/2022 12:05

I think it’s living rurally and not being used to noise (that’s how I live and I feel like you do sometimes). Other people who live more surrounded by people are more used to noise so talking outside happens more frequently for them.. And nobody really notices whether curtains are open or closed when they’re mid conversation with someone.

Hotcuppatea · 24/01/2022 12:07

YABU. 9.30am is a perfectly reasonable time to be talking and laughing outside.

Buy some earplugs if it's a big problem.

Chuechebache · 24/01/2022 12:08

This surely is a wind up thread.9.30am is the first little rest for me ,after a busy 6am start. And how dare, people talking at this time of day😂.

Loubilou09 · 24/01/2022 12:10

9.30 is not early though....if it was 7.00am then I would be little more understanding of the issue. My neighbour loves chatting outside my house at 7.00am which drives me mad.

More annoying was a woman shouting into her phone speaker on a beautiful country walk this morning at 08.00am. Lot of people out enjoying the peace and quiet until mouth almighty rocks up to tell the whole word what is going on in her life - ignorant cow!

SirChenjins · 24/01/2022 12:12

Nope - YANBU. We live in a street that backs onto a woodland trail which is popular for dog walkers (and very handy for us for our pup). There are a few groups of dog walkers who often stop and talk loudly on it and let their dogs run around and bark for a good while. One of them even uses a dog whistle to recall their dog to the group. The fact that there are people like my daughter sleeping having come off a hospital night shift, or others just wanting a quietish time in their garden seems to pass them by. No-one is expecting silence, but don’t stand talking loudly for 20 minutes in the one spot right beside a house with your dogs barking FFS.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/01/2022 12:14

Just when you think the weird 'dog hate' on Mumsnet couldn't get any more weird Grin

Cailleach · 24/01/2022 12:21

9.30am is late to be in bed on a weekday morning tbh. Unless of course you're a night shift worker, in which case I understand you a bit more....but even then, people aren't going to notice your curtains are closed and think "oooh, must shush!"

I live right next to a small park that's hugely popular with dog walkers. About three times a week two women come round screeching and laughing and shouting for their dogs at the top of their voices.I

At 3.30am.

Now that's being unreasonable!

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 24/01/2022 12:28

I don't think I've ever stopped and looked up at someone's curtains before. Quite often I forget to open the spare room curtains which are street facing. Doesn't mean someone is asleep in there, often just means I'm a forgetful git.

Redbeanpasta · 24/01/2022 12:30

Yabu, curtains closed don't mean a person is asleep and 9:30 is a reasonable time to expect outside noise.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 24/01/2022 12:31

9.30!! Grin

girlmom21 · 24/01/2022 12:32

To be fair to OP the time is irrelevant as people work shifts etc.

How rural is semi-rural? Could they have walked an extra 30 seconds and been away from any homes.

Santahasjoinedww · 24/01/2022 12:33

I raise you sea swimmers with a ddog at 6am 7 days a week.

Yes, a lot of people are oblivious to anything not in their bubble.

I know IABU to be this annoyed about it but I had a disturbed nights sleep and this was me trying to catch up. I was having a lovely sleep as wellSad
