Car passenger tested positive

My son had a football match yesterday morning and one of the other parents asked if I could give their son a lift there and back.

Last night my son said his team mate had been complaining of feeling unwell before the match.

Team mates dad has just put in the group chat that his son has tested positive for covid this morning.

Now I know it can't be helped, and it's not their sons fault etc, but AIBU in thinking that I should have been told beforehand that their son was not feeling well?

It depends what they meant by not feeling 'well' and if he'd told his parents beforehand.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 23/01/2022 12:44

I can’t decide if you are BU or not. There is no obligation to tell you, but I get your point. Having said that, this is the way we will be living from now on.

doritolady · 23/01/2022 12:45

Headache, sore throat and feeling tired.

Yes his parents knew.

How old? Some children don't want to miss out and don't mention feeling unwell

doritolady · 23/01/2022 12:46

They're 15.

@doritolady

Headache, sore throat and feeling tired.

Yes his parents knew.

They knew and they shouldn’t have sent him.

I’d be furious.

purpleme12 · 23/01/2022 12:48

They might have done an LFT before the car journey and it was negative at that point

girlmom21 · 23/01/2022 12:48

@doritolady

Headache, sore throat and feeling tired.

Yes his parents knew.

I wouldn't have considered covid based on those symptoms
LIZS · 23/01/2022 12:48

Irresponsible of parents and teammate. They should not have let him go but bit late for that now. Were they isolating themselves already I wonder, hence need for a lift.

twinkletoesimnot · 23/01/2022 13:00

YANBU

Selfish arses

TheHoptimist · 23/01/2022 13:01

Its life

Lateral flow for 7 days and get on with you life- as per the government guidelines

This is an everyday occurrence now. Not a drama situation. The difference is that you know- mostly people dont tell you.

worriedatthemoment · 23/01/2022 13:11

My son had these symptoms negative lft so went to work as advised as not official symptoms , eventually had a positive lft but ironically after symptoms and positive pcr also, currently isolating but totally well
The rest of us need to do LFT for 7!days and go to work school etc
His parents may have done a lft as per the advice and only shown today as positive
If me I would prob mention but lots don't know other symptoms I only do really due to being on here

TheSnowyOwl · 23/01/2022 13:12

With those symptoms yanbu.
doritolady · 23/01/2022 13:14

Maybe I am being unreasonable, I don't know!

Yes I know this is part of life now but if it had been my son feeling unwell I definitely would have let the other parents know beforehand.

My 2 other DC were also in the car so I'm just hoping we'll all avoid catching it!

I have all these symptoms, day 4. My youngest tested positive on Thursday. I am still negative. I only tested the youngest as nursery asked because of close contact

MasterBeth · 23/01/2022 13:18

@girlmom21 But these are all well-recognised Covid symptoms! Honestly, no wonder we have done so terribly with this disease.

girlmom21 · 23/01/2022 13:28
@girlmom21 But these are all well-recognised Covid symptoms! Honestly, no wonder we have done so terribly with this disease.
Only the WHO reports them as "less common" symptoms.
The government and NHS website still don't list them.

I don't know anyone who's had covid with a headache or a sore throat.

Nonivknamesforcatapillars · 23/01/2022 13:30

They clearly knew. If he was feeling under the weather they should have made him test before he got in the car with other people not after. I’d be mad.

purpleme12 · 23/01/2022 13:31

But there's nothing here to indicate he didn't test beforehand
He might have done and it might have been negative at that point

NoWordForFluffy · 23/01/2022 13:33

I don't know anyone who's had covid with a headache or a sore throat.

What percentage of the almost-16m people who are counted as having had Covid do you know?! 🤔🤔

NewMum0305 · 23/01/2022 13:35

Surprised that people are saying that they wouldn’t recognise those as Covid symptoms - I had thought they were well established Omicron symptoms

Looneytune253 · 23/01/2022 13:35

I think you're being a bit harsh!! I work with children and it's everywhere at the moment. I have had close contact a few times recently and I've had what could be classed as Covid symptoms on and off before Xmas but have never tested positive once. It's just one of those things tho and it's everywhere now

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 23/01/2022 13:35

Headache, fatigue, gastro symptoms and sore throat are what we are told to look out for our children from the school, which comes for local public health. (South Yorks).

The only symptom my children had between them was a headache for a few hours...

Well I said I didn't know they were symptoms because nobody I know has had them. That doesn't mean they can't possibly be symptoms..
doritolady · 23/01/2022 13:38

My son's team mate said to my son that he didn't do a LFT beforehand, for those that asked.
