Car passenger tested positive

My son had a football match yesterday morning and one of the other parents asked if I could give their son a lift there and back.

Last night my son said his team mate had been complaining of feeling unwell before the match.

Team mates dad has just put in the group chat that his son has tested positive for covid this morning.

Now I know it can't be helped, and it's not their sons fault etc, but AIBU in thinking that I should have been told beforehand that their son was not feeling well?

@TheHoptimist

Its life

Lateral flow for 7 days and get on with you life- as per the government guidelines

This is an everyday occurrence now. Not a drama situation. The difference is that you know- mostly people dont tell you.

This.

The drama is over, move on.

Those symptoms scream Covid to me and I'd be fuming at either their selfishness or idiocy. But the government has done an appalling job of emphasising symptoms like these are strongly associated with Covid now - a huge number of people are still under the impression that unless you have a high fever and are gasping for breath, it's probably just a cold.

Hbh17 · 23/01/2022 13:56

Covid is no longer a threat, & especially not to kids, so it's really not a big deal. Hopefully it won't be long before all this ridiculous testing stops completely. Just get on with your life as normal, like everyone else is.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 23/01/2022 14:00

Did you find out via the group chat or were you contacted by the parents directly?

I’d still be annoyed if I caught it. Not because I’m particularly worried about getting really sick. I’ve had it twice and been fine both times. More for the disruption of having to isolate again!
NoWordForFluffy · 23/01/2022 14:11

The symptoms for omicron are well-publicised, @girlmom21. As are all symptoms outside of the outdated three symptoms the government are still persisting people should have (a variety of) to qualify for a test.

Clearly not that well publicised. Oh well, I know now.

@doritolady

Headache, sore throat and feeling tired.

Yes his parents knew.

If he was well enough to play football it probably didn't occur to them it was anything other than being a bit off.
doritolady · 23/01/2022 14:14

@StillNoFuckingEyeDeer Parent put it in the group chat, they haven't messaged me directly.

@Hbh17 I understand it's not a major threat but this could have been avoided by them telling me he was ill beforehand.

DiddyHeck · 23/01/2022 14:14

@doritolady

My son's team mate said to my son that he didn't do a LFT beforehand, for those that asked.
Perhaps they didn't have any?
ISmellBurnings · 23/01/2022 14:16

Headache, sore throat and tired are exactly the symptoms my DC had and all their friends.

greenlynx · 23/01/2022 14:17

Of course it’s our life now and we are getting on with it. My DD was in contact with someone and just doing test every day as advised. I’m fine with this. However in this situation the contact wasn’t accidental (at least for OP and her younger DC) and OP hasn’t got chance to make informed choice. I would be really cross.

doritolady · 23/01/2022 14:22

@greenlynx You've written exactly what I was trying to get across! Yes this is part of life now but I do think his parents should have let me make that decision before giving the lift. Now me and my 3DC will have to test all week and keep our fingers crossed we don't get it. My eldest has mocks this week which is why I'm extra annoyed.

How will the covid lovers cope when the do get rid of testing? People have been so brainwashed by this. It is a mild illness that most people will get over, nothing to be scared of. I've had way worse colds/flu and I'm triple vaxxed. No point fuming over a cold, it's insane!

It's not about being a 'Covid lover.' While restrictions are still in place it's a massive inconvenience. Not to mention can really impact people's incomes. OP was helping someone out and has been repaid with a total lack of concern. She has every right to be annoyed.
doritolady · 23/01/2022 14:33

@Theballoonsinthesky Not sure I'm a covid lover Hmm My eldest has mock exams this week and because of what has happened he could potentially end up missing them when it could have been completely avoided.

Can he not do the mocks at home?

Theballoonsinthesky · 23/01/2022 14:50

Don't test him then unless he gets ill?

So why was he running around a pitch with at least 20 people on it, all heavy breathing and coming into very close physical contact with him?

ExcaliburBaby · 23/01/2022 14:56

Honestly don’t know how people could not have considered Covid at this point with those symptoms

ExcaliburBaby · 23/01/2022 14:58

Having said that I think the Gvt are beyond irresponsible with their insistence on sticking to the (outdated) “three main symptoms” messaging

doritolady · 23/01/2022 15:12

@DiddyHeck Surely running around a pitch playing football is very different to sitting in a car for an hour with someone who had covid symptoms?

OP posts:
Jedsnewstar · 23/01/2022 15:22

I wouldn't have considered covid based on those symptoms

I agree they are not the 3 symptoms we are told to look out for.

Of course Covid is still a threat. What if OP had been CEV or looks after someone who is CEV?
