Just that really. All my friends have kept theirs but I’m not very sentimental (but still very happily married!) so wondered if anyone had any innovative ideas?

It’s not very fashionable so selling it or even giving it away isn’t likely to be that successful.

It’s satin so the fabric is solid rather than lace.

It’s currently taking up a lot of space in my son’s wardrobe and I really want to declutter a bit.

Cushions? Seems a bit twee. Anywhere I can donate?

You can donate them. Oxfam have bridal shops around.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 22/01/2022 18:15

I srill have the bodice of mine but not the skirt. That was made into DD's christening gown.

HirplesWithHaggis · 22/01/2022 18:20

I borrowed my sister's dress, so I gave it back to her. She later passed it on to some young woman who couldn't afford her own, but my sister had divorced that husband by then, so the dress had less sentimental value.

onedayoranother · 22/01/2022 18:20

Mine was designed and made for me. I've stored it.

Oopsiedaisy123 · 22/01/2022 18:23

Like MacavityTheDentistsCat There’s keepsake companies that will turn them into little hanging hearts, cushions, christening gowns, blankets etc if you don’t mind it being cut up

BeyondMyWits · 22/01/2022 18:25

Mine is hung in its bag in the wardrobe, since the day after our wedding, unopened for 22 years... shouldn't think it is "fashionable" now, probably slowly yellowing and rotting in a plastic bag... sad really, should've done something with it years ago.

WutheringHeights66 · 22/01/2022 18:26

I let DD dress up in it when she was many years younger then I binned it. It was a short one and I’m not sentimental and it was wrecked when she dragged it across for floor for many months.

I be still got her prom dress though which takes up loads of space.

bcc89 · 22/01/2022 18:28

Please no one bin your dresses!

I posted mine to Wirral Wings to be made into baby clothes for babies who have passed away before or shortly after birth.

AWonderfulNewName · 22/01/2022 18:28

Thrown it down the shaft of Battersea Waste recycling.

FourChimneys · 22/01/2022 18:29

Gave it to Oxfam although it wasn't a traditional wedding dress.

Santahasjoinedww · 22/01/2022 18:29

Mine is hung up in the corner of the bedroom on display.

Merryoldgoat · 22/01/2022 18:31

@bcc89

That’s very interesting, I actually sew myself. Maybe I could make some and give them to my local hospital.

It's at my mum and dad's house in the wardrobe of my old bedroom

BusySittingDown · 22/01/2022 18:34

I've been wondering what to do with mine.

I'm not sentimental about it - I have photos of it which is enough. It's been taking up space for the last 12 years.

I asked my girls if they might like it one day - even to make a different dress out of it. I was met with a look of disdain 😂. Which, to be fair, would have been the same look that I would have given my mum had she offered me her dress.

OneMoreForExtra · 22/01/2022 18:37

Mine's in a dress box in the loft. I goodly hope DD will wear it but in reality she probably won't get married/ won't like it / won't fit, so watching with interest. I should probably donate it

OneMoreForExtra · 22/01/2022 18:37

*fondly FFS

Fritilleries · 22/01/2022 18:38

I sold mine in ebay for half its original price.

gingercat02 · 22/01/2022 18:43

Mine's in the loft in a box with tissue that's supposed to stop it decaying. I don't really know why I still have it but I don't want to give it away. Married 20 years this year

Giraffesandbottoms · 22/01/2022 18:43

There’s a company which cleans it, packages it beautifully in a box etc to store. So I’ve done that. I actually wanted to display it on a mannequin as it’s a work of art but probably have to wait until children are a bit older and less likely to smear jam all over it 😆 it’s safe in the box

Merryoldgoat · 22/01/2022 18:43

@Fritilleries

I put mine on eBay and zero interest. It was £1k new and I had it on for £50! 🤣

Plonkysaurus · 22/01/2022 18:45

Mine went to Oxfam

Mynameisnew · 22/01/2022 18:47

I second the idea for dresses for babies who pass away. I made something called an Angel Pocket for my two little ones who died at 17 weeks.

This is a really good resource www.funeralguide.co.uk/blog/baby-burial-clothes-charities

GrimDamnFanjo · 22/01/2022 18:47

I know someone who got divorced and then donated it to a Zombie experience to be worn as a costume...

That is a beautiful idea. I shall look into it.
ImInStealthMode · 22/01/2022 18:47

Mine also went to a charity who make gowns and blankets for babies who pass away very young.

Thankfully they don't need many dresses so often stop accepting them but I found a charity local to me that don't advertise they take them, but were grateful when I offered it.
