Just that really. All my friends have kept theirs but I’m not very sentimental (but still very happily married!) so wondered if anyone had any innovative ideas?

It’s not very fashionable so selling it or even giving it away isn’t likely to be that successful.

It’s satin so the fabric is solid rather than lace.

It’s currently taking up a lot of space in my son’s wardrobe and I really want to declutter a bit.

Cushions? Seems a bit twee. Anywhere I can donate?

Interesting question!
Mine was £49.99 from River Island, little short lace number. My son’s girlfriend is currently wearing it as her favourite party dress 😀

JustKeepSwimmingJust · 22/01/2022 19:46

In a box on top of my wardrobe. The husband is gone though!

DockOTheBay · 22/01/2022 19:49

Gave it back to the person who lent it to me.

If I had bought one I would probably try to sell it on

ItsRainingTacos · 22/01/2022 19:56

I sold mine on eBay because it was getting damaged from the way I was storing it. Space was limited for hanging so I folded it up and put it in a bag to put on top of the wardrobe 🙊

JustLyra · 22/01/2022 19:59

@Bubblebathpanda

I donated mine to The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation, they organise and fund weddings for terminally ill people.
That's what I did.
Cryalot2 · 22/01/2022 20:03

Mine is folded up in tissue paper and in the same small cream vanity case this 34 + years.

caringcarer · 22/01/2022 20:07

Mine was dry cleaned and in long hanging robe then plastic overwrap. I wanted to sell it on but DH is sentimental and said it was my special dress and he did not like thought of another woman wearing it so it stays in wardrobe. My dd was offered it but wanted her own dress.

Lancrelady80 · 22/01/2022 20:19

As pps have said, please think about the charities who turn wedding dresses into gowns for babies who have sadly died. My dd was born v early and fortunately survived, but she was so tiny that they didn't make clothes to fit. She would have had to be buried in nothing but a blanket. That was a very real prospect for us at one point, and for some reason thinking of that just made it even worse, although it hardly seems possible. Knowing she could at least have had a tiny scrap of dignity and beauty to take with her would have been a (small) comfort.

(It's strange what our minds hook onto in traumatic moments in order to try to focus less on the overwhelmingly obvious painful prospect, please understand that I am in no way saying that would have been the worst thing had it happened.)

safclass · 22/01/2022 20:22

Dresses for angels - they also make beautiful clothing for babies who have passed away. Think they're national, but you may have a local group who do similar. X

birdglasspen · 22/01/2022 20:27

I donated mine for dresses for stillborn babies don’t remember where but you could google I’m sure bbc had an article about one lady who did it. It was sad as she had lost a baby and her husband had to go out and buy something for baby to wear and it was awful to put them into so she makes dresses which are easy to put on at such an awful time. X

roses2 · 22/01/2022 20:28

@Fritilleries

I sold mine in ebay for half its original price.
I bought mine on ebay and sold it for the same price I paid Grin
elliejjtiny · 22/01/2022 20:33

I donated mine to a charity who give wedding dresses to terminally ill brides.

CathyorClaire · 22/01/2022 20:35

Sold it on eBay a few years back.

Was an 80's meringue Grin so I didn't get much for it but it never got looked at was taking up space and is now one less thing for the dc to deal with in due course.

JigglyPiggly · 22/01/2022 20:37

I donated mine to a charity that made burial gowns for stillborn babies

Italiangreyhound · 22/01/2022 20:38

I gave it to an African charity which rents them out and uses the profits to help women.

Italiangreyhound · 22/01/2022 20:39

Before I sold it I photographed my gorgeous child sitting with it.

Zazdar · 22/01/2022 20:48

Mine is hanging my wardrobe. It doesn’t take up much space.

It last came out when there was an exhibition of wedding dresses in the local church. It was surprising how many people had kept their dresses. One or two were over 60 years old.

Lucyccfc68 · 22/01/2022 20:50

Gave mine to charity.

I can’t get my head round anyone keeping a dress that you won’t wear again for 10/20/30 years. Just takes up space and is very dated.

merrygoround23 · 22/01/2022 20:52

Lost it. Genuinely, didn't really care for it much anyway. Not really a wedding person I only done it to please my Mother. V happily married though Smile

TheCanyon · 22/01/2022 20:53

Mine is either on top of the wardrobe squashed amongst the spare duvets or in my wardrobe in a bag for life with other ball gowns (horsey county, the big town's have festivals and balls)

It's a simple/plain fishtail?! frock, I'm sure one of my girls can make use of it somehow. Maybe some dylon for a ball one day Grin

Echobelly · 22/01/2022 20:54

Mine's hanging in spare room wardrobe; it was just a bridesmaid dress, so nothing special in itself. I thought oldest might want it but looks like they'll be a totally different shape to me (more boobs!)

Unescorted · 22/01/2022 20:55

Mine is stored so it can be refashioned into one for DD. It has 7.5m of raw silk in the skirt. It would be a shame to waste it. If she doesn't want it for a Frick it can be made into something else.

AnotherMansCause · 22/01/2022 20:58

Donated to be made into burial gowns for stillborn babies.

etulosba · 22/01/2022 21:00

Just takes up space and is very dated.

Surely, if you are never going to wear it again, it doesn’t matter how dated it is.

BloomingTrees · 22/01/2022 21:14

Gave mine to Oxfam
