Just that really. All my friends have kept theirs but I’m not very sentimental (but still very happily married!) so wondered if anyone had any innovative ideas?

It’s not very fashionable so selling it or even giving it away isn’t likely to be that successful.

It’s satin so the fabric is solid rather than lace.

It’s currently taking up a lot of space in my son’s wardrobe and I really want to declutter a bit.

Cushions? Seems a bit twee. Anywhere I can donate?

Mine is hanging in my wardrobe and I’ve absolutely no intention of doing anything with it. It’s a memory of a beautiful day and maybe something my gc or ggc will appreciate

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 22/01/2022 21:28

Mine was cleaned and boxed at great expense. Been sat on top of a wardrobe for years. I've been divorced for a few years now but I'm tempted to wear it for my second wedding (I'm tight so don't want to pay for another plus I'm not sentimental about it).
Other than that I might keep it for my DD to use. I'd have to lose a few stones to get it to fit me again anyway.

Lucyccfc68 · 22/01/2022 21:31

@etulosba

Just takes up space and is very dated.

Surely, if you are never going to wear it again, it doesn’t matter how dated it is.

You may need wear it again, but the option of gifting it or giving it to charity is then limited, due to being dated.

Not a criticism as it's a nice idea but I wonder how many people's daughters or granddaughters have got married in their old wedding dresses?

My sister and I tried on our mum's wedding dress and it was the wrong size and not a style either of us liked. I guess it depends on how much the dress is "of its era".

ButtockUp · 22/01/2022 21:35

Vacuum packed and chucked in the attic for someone else to deal with.

isthismylifenow · 22/01/2022 21:38

I still have mine in the top cupboard and I've been divorced for years.

I don't keep it for sentimental reasons. I kept it initially thinking dd might like it, then it became the goal dress for me to be able to fit into again one day. I can now, so that is that excuse done. I think I will donate it, we have a lot of foundations that I can give it to.

I did design it and had it made. I think this is why I have battled to part with it.

DdraigGoch · 22/01/2022 21:39

A great aunt (wartime generation) dyed hers and turned it into a ball gown.

CounsellorTroi · 22/01/2022 21:40

I still have mine. 30 years old, too old to be fashionable and too new to be vintage. I love the idea of it being used for babies who have passed away, will look into that.

DDMAC · 22/01/2022 21:43

I bought a special box with the acid free paper that’s supposed to keep it like new. It’s pretty with a big bow. I have childrens christening robes in it also.
It’s a timeless dress and I Really wanted to keep it for my dd, I loved my mothers dress but she had hers made into a holy communion dress for me so I was determined not to get rid of mine.

FreakinFrankNFurter · 22/01/2022 21:43

I kept mine for years, it was stored under the bed gathering dust. I then wondered what the hell I was keeping it for. I was going to send to fabric recycling but instead found a charity which makes wedding dresses into dresses for stillborn babies. I donated it to them.

They sent me some photos of the dresses they had made out of it, and also sent me a little keepsake heart out of the fabric

TheDeckchairGardener · 22/01/2022 21:52

I tried to sell mine via a bridal preloved shop but they gave it back to me after having no interest. It then sat in my loft for 3 years. I then looked at giving it to an ‘angel gown’ charity but they said they didn’t need any more donations at the time. So I gave it to my local British Red Cross charity who seemed very grateful for it. I have kept my hair piece and jewellery as keepsakes (which don’t take up too much space).

I might have kept it longer if I wasn’t worried about it perishing in the extreme temperatures of my loft but I haven’t missed it since donating it.

autienotnaughty · 22/01/2022 21:52

Donated to a charity that makes burial gowns for angel babies.

PinkiOcelot · 22/01/2022 21:56

I donated mine to a hospice charity shop.

HelenRu · 23/01/2022 12:26

Dress is still in my wardrobe. I've only worn it the once. Has anyone worn their old dress again and if so for what kind of event?

AnotherSillawithanS · 23/01/2022 12:30

My dress was 1700 quid. I chucked it in the bin.
