To have laughed at her Slimming World advice?

831 replies

Pikaso · 18/01/2022 13:04

Woman at work has been doing Slimming World. She’s obsessed with it and goes on about it constantly armed with her books and Muller Lights at every meal.
I told her last week I was going to give it a go. I didn’t buy Muller Lights but instead bought some asda own yogurts which had almost identical calorie, fat and sugar content. Sat down to eat lunch yesterday and she came in and said “I thought you were doing slimming world?”. I said “I am” so she said “how many syns in those yogurts?” So I said “none, they’re the same as muller lights”. She replied “no, you’re meant to eat Muller lights!” And looked really concerned and worried!! I did owl noises in her face and told her the calories, sugar and fat etc were exactly the same so why would it matter??! She actually left the room muttering about how it won’t work if you don’t do it properly.

I did slimming world a few years back and stopped because of the cult like behaviour of the members and leaders. I thought I’d give it another go but she has totally put me off again! Nothing has changed!!
She’s been off with me ever since. WIBU to have laughed at her muller light concerns?? Common sense tells you it’s the calories etc that matter, not the bloody name on the pot!!

You got all owl up in her grill? WTAF?

Darbs76 · 20/01/2022 06:45

It’s definitely a cult. Muller must be making a fortune. Just calorie count and do more steps, far easier

Redglitter · 20/01/2022 07:51

OP you are a legend

Thats certainly one word for her, maybe not the first that springs to mind though 🤔

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 20/01/2022 08:09

@FortunesFave

The Owl noises are obviously when you go "OOooH!" in a sarcastic way at someone when they're getting all het up.
obviously

I think you must be the only poster on this thread who ‘gets’ tbe OP’s owl noises

@pictish

Yes, yabu to do SW on the cheap, using your colleague for info. My friend did this to me when I did WW years ago. Like a mug I sat there with her going over how it all worked and gave her a points calculator and all that jazz. She pestered me about it for a couple of weeks then ditched it (as was inevitable anyway). My fault for wasting my own time I suppose, but she certainly didn’t give a toss about wasting it either. Join up or jog on.
Really easy do to SW or similar without ever joining. Loads of books in charity shops (if you need them) and loads of recipes and advice online. Same with Pinch of Nom (hate the name!) on FB.

One for classic @mnhq , if only for Irritable Owl Syndrome

TitoMojito · 20/01/2022 08:47

@Pikaso

I didn’t screech at her, it was just a coo coo type thing
I'm cry laughing here 😂
TheBestofTimesTheWorstofTimes · 20/01/2022 09:17

@Pikaso you dont seem to find this as weird funny as many of us - so is in normal in your life/family/friends to coo at each other in these kinds of circumstances?

Serious question. Your replies just seem very odd, as though your response to her was a normal one and the hilarious replies are not worth your time

DrManhattan · 20/01/2022 09:18

Owl too funny

Bravenheart · 20/01/2022 09:31

@Pikaso. She sounds annoying but you sound like a nutter OP! Owl noises?! What on earth- I’ve never heard of any normal adult doing that. Bizarre.

Oh I’m finding the replies very funny, especially irritable owl syndrome!

I’m just trying to stick to the point however!

But yeah I suppose my normal is not other people’s normal. I have autism and adhd so my social skills are a little lacking clearly 😂

@Pikaso You didn’t answer the question, though. In your normal life, is this something that people do? Have you ever seen anyone, anywhere hoot in another person’s face? If so, where? If not, why did you think it was acceptable behaviour? I’m not seeing how that can be attributed to either autism or adhd.

HerRoyalHappiness · 20/01/2022 12:37

I have autism and ADHD too... I dont coo at people so I'm not sure lacking social skills is really relevant, it's just plain odd

Pikaso · 20/01/2022 13:02

It was impulse. She wouldn’t stop talking and I didn’t know what to do as I was desperate to speak. It worked, she stopped talking.

To answer whether I’ve done it before - yes! Wolf is my favourite but owl is better indoors.

I don’t care whether you find it odd! I really don’t care. You do you, I’ll do me

But it's not just me who finds it odd. As I said, it isn't lacking social skills that make you do it. You clearly know its a weird thing to do yet you still do it

Saysama · 20/01/2022 13:11

@Pikaso Everyone finds it odd. There’s a whole thread full of people telling you it’s odd and rude. If you really don’t care and are going to continue making animal noises at people because you’re ‘doing you’, then you’re a rather unpleasant person.

Do you howl or do little yips and barks?

Or whines?

Which works the best do you think?

I stopped caring about people thinking I was weird when I was in my 20s. The woman herself wasn’t even offended by it so not sure why everyone is offended on her behalf!

It was all about the yogurt and slimming worlds daft rules

Calm down! I'd say it takes more than making animal noises at someone to make them unpleasant. Why, just this morning, I 'moooo-ed' at my husband to demonstrate my frustration with covid isolation....

Pikaso · 20/01/2022 13:16

@Somethingsnappy

Definitely a howl. When I was a kid I’d do cat noises when people were continuously talking as it stressed me out

I used to go to Uni with a girl who would randomly bark at people, wondering if this is the OP 🤣

rooarsome · 20/01/2022 13:20

I clicked on this thread to moan about cult like diet clubs.... got to say this was not what I expected 🦉

So you've continued this behaviour in to adulthood using an owl noise now 😳

I mean even if my 7 year old started meowing randomly when people were talking I think I'd pull him aside and say "you can't do that, you either need to remove yourself from the situation or await a break in the conversation to say "pardon me".

You can't make animal noises at people, it's odd.
