To have laughed at her Slimming World advice?

Woman at work has been doing Slimming World. She’s obsessed with it and goes on about it constantly armed with her books and Muller Lights at every meal.
I told her last week I was going to give it a go. I didn’t buy Muller Lights but instead bought some asda own yogurts which had almost identical calorie, fat and sugar content. Sat down to eat lunch yesterday and she came in and said “I thought you were doing slimming world?”. I said “I am” so she said “how many syns in those yogurts?” So I said “none, they’re the same as muller lights”. She replied “no, you’re meant to eat Muller lights!” And looked really concerned and worried!! I did owl noises in her face and told her the calories, sugar and fat etc were exactly the same so why would it matter??! She actually left the room muttering about how it won’t work if you don’t do it properly.

I did slimming world a few years back and stopped because of the cult like behaviour of the members and leaders. I thought I’d give it another go but she has totally put me off again! Nothing has changed!!
She’s been off with me ever since. WIBU to have laughed at her muller light concerns?? Common sense tells you it’s the calories etc that matter, not the bloody name on the pot!!

Anyone else picturing Marjorie Dawes?

cutebutscary · 19/01/2022 10:27

Cooo cooo is more pigeon . Surely twit twooo is the correct noise
Just here for the bird noises

BABAHOTEL · 19/01/2022 10:44

@Wavypurple

You’re both unreasonable slimming world is not an effective/healthy weight loss method
Op previously this month was using slim fast, not sure she's bothered about healthy weight loss!
Pikaso · 19/01/2022 11:22

Yeah I’ve gone back to SlimFast, easier to follow and not so cult like!

Is it sustainable?
Pikaso · 19/01/2022 12:45

Probably not long term but I only need to lose a stone. I just want some weight off for March

I’ve apologised to her, she said she wasn’t even bothered about what I did, she was more frustrated with getting to grips with “the rules”

No idea whether you intended it to be @Pikaso but this thread has been so entertaining and funny, so thanks for the giggle! Grin

Glad you got it sorted, and are OK with her now, and good luck in the weight loss battle! Grin

@Builderscrack

Why. The fuck. Are. People. Taking. This. So. Seriously?

All the peoples outraged at how ‘RUUUUDE’ op was are coming across as very uptight indeed! Lighten up 🙄

I agree. I did say it was rude, but rude can still be funny!

I've been thinking of trying it
Lavender24 · 19/01/2022 14:51

Urgh I used to work with a woman who did SW and she was insufferable. Used to comment on the "syns" in my mayo and ketchup at lunch times. I did not ask her opinion and I'm a size 8.

I am confused by the owl noises though!

fairycakes1234 · 19/01/2022 14:56

you do realise slimming world is essetially all about colaorie counting but they do it for you at a costly price :) I think you mean a cuckoo sound rather than owl, as in shes cuckoo, or i am overthinking it!!

Slimming World is a business. If everyone lost weight and kept it off there’d be no one coming back and spending more money. People loose weight as they’re just eating less calories and then it all goes all back on once you return to normal eating. They know this. They profit off peoples insecurities and make it easy.

My sister used to do SW and it teaches the completely the wrong way to look at food imo. A calorie is not always the same. 300 calories of fruit for example and a chocolate bar are not the same. So by the same logic not all syns are equal. Especially when you can just eat all those red? syns. Eating a bowl of pasta for your syn count is not as healthy as the equivalent in vegetables for example. (Obviously but my sister didn’t get this)

I could eat a chocolate bar for every meal and I’d lose weight but it’s definitely not as healthy nor as sustainable as eating s balanced meal.

Snakeplisskensmum · 19/01/2022 18:24

@HelloFrostyMorning I agree...I don't care what the OP meant, it's been totally hilarious and just what I needed today.
OP you are a legend 🤣

pictish · 19/01/2022 18:52

Tell you what OP, I lost significant amount of weight and kept it off. I didn’t go near any slimming clubs or bloody meal replacement shakes. Fine if you want to lose 10ths for an occasion (you will) - no use if you intend to stay slim and eat properly.

I did Weightwatchers 20 years ago and lost a significant amount but counting points and tracking everything that goes in your mouth is not sustainable for life…or not a happy, relaxed, spontaneous, normal life anyway. It’s a chore and makes a simultaneous enemy and crutch of food. Needless to say I put it all back on with an extra dollop for good measure.

I tackled my weight again five years ago. Totally different approach. I used my knowledge, which is the same knowledge that you possess, to ditch the crap I shouldn’t be eating and eat more of the things I should.
No points, no syns, no shakes, no bars, no soups, no diet foods, no slimming club, no scales, no weight watchers frozen ready meals, no bloody Muller Lights…which are frankly shit. They neither taste good nor satisfy. What’s the point of eating one?

Take it back to basics. You know what you should be eating, you know what you need to cut down on, you know what you’ll enjoy wasting calories on as a treat. Learn to cook healthy and wholefood. Take up some form of regular exercise, preferably something you’ll come to look forward to doing. For me that’s trail running…I have a friend who exercises by using a weighted hula hoop. Whatever suits you, your interests and your lifestyle. You choose. Don’t weigh yourself too often, go by your clothes. The scales are demoralising and you’ll become fixated on the numbers. Once a month is well more than enough. Personally I only weight myself every three months or so. I go by my clothes.
I lost and have maintained a loss of 10 stone using the common sense method. Used to be a size 24, now a fit and active long term 8. It took me two and a half years to lose, at an average of (I worked this out much later) 1lb per week. I understand this might not appeal to everyone but it certainly worked for me.

Most of you won’t have half of that to lose. Something to think about. Xx

toppkatz · 19/01/2022 18:57

Owls say coo Yes they do, but you hear pigeons doing it a lot more often.

Deer bark, but if someone barked in my face I'd assume they were imitating a dog.

LavenderAskew · 19/01/2022 20:50

Not to come across too pedantic but as has been pointed out on this thread owls dislike being misquoted, I feel it's important to correct a terrible wrong.

Male and female Tawny owls do not twit twoo. Well males ones sort do, they twoo (certainly don't coo coo) and female Twany owl's kee-wick.

Though I suppose in some accents kee-wick might sound like twit. So I some parts of Europe between a couple they twit twoo.

I'm unsure of their opinions on muller lights, so I'll stay quite on that.

0wlnoises · 19/01/2022 21:00

Thanks for the new username, OP Wink

fuckoffjournalists · 19/01/2022 21:08

You know it’s not one owl making the twit-twoo OP, it’s two owls having a conversation, for next time….

OrianaBanana · 19/01/2022 21:44

Tawny owls have the ‘kee-wick’, ‘hoo hoo’ conversation in the UK. I am not sure which owl would coo, but I heard a scops owl once make quite a similar sound.

Anyway, YWBU to try and do SW on the cheap and then mock your free source’s muller lights with indeterminate owl noises. 🦉

pictish · 19/01/2022 22:01

Yes, yabu to do SW on the cheap, using your colleague for info. My friend did this to me when I did WW years ago. Like a mug I sat there with her going over how it all worked and gave her a points calculator and all that jazz. She pestered me about it for a couple of weeks then ditched it (as was inevitable anyway). My fault for wasting my own time I suppose, but she certainly didn’t give a toss about wasting it either.
Join up or jog on.

This makes no sense to me. Why shouldn’t she do it on the cheap? And, if you were already paying, then how does it affect your friend didn’t? You’re upset that the corporate megalith that is WW might be out a few quid?
pictish · 19/01/2022 22:41

Not in the least…couldn’t care less…these slimming clubs are a carefully crafted sham. I did WW 20 years ago. Not recommended, it’s a hard sell that keeps the customer coming back.
I’m remembering that I lost hours saving my feckless pal the bother of joining up, by talking her through it and providing advice until the novelty wore off. Silly of me, vacuous of her. That’s all.

sageandbasil · 20/01/2022 06:19

Confused abouy the owl noises. Muller lights aren't free they're half a syn to stop being from eating 10 a day x
