To have laughed at her Slimming World advice?

831 replies

Pikaso · 18/01/2022 13:04

Woman at work has been doing Slimming World. She’s obsessed with it and goes on about it constantly armed with her books and Muller Lights at every meal.
I told her last week I was going to give it a go. I didn’t buy Muller Lights but instead bought some asda own yogurts which had almost identical calorie, fat and sugar content. Sat down to eat lunch yesterday and she came in and said “I thought you were doing slimming world?”. I said “I am” so she said “how many syns in those yogurts?” So I said “none, they’re the same as muller lights”. She replied “no, you’re meant to eat Muller lights!” And looked really concerned and worried!! I did owl noises in her face and told her the calories, sugar and fat etc were exactly the same so why would it matter??! She actually left the room muttering about how it won’t work if you don’t do it properly.

I did slimming world a few years back and stopped because of the cult like behaviour of the members and leaders. I thought I’d give it another go but she has totally put me off again! Nothing has changed!!
She’s been off with me ever since. WIBU to have laughed at her muller light concerns?? Common sense tells you it’s the calories etc that matter, not the bloody name on the pot!!

I’ve not actually joined up, I’m just relying on her advice and books

So you're relying on her advice and yet when she gives it to you, you make owl noises and then decide she's put you off Slimming World completely?

If you joined up and did it by yourself then you could very easily ignore people like her. You can't have it both ways.

Omg spooky how could you do this to me? I've been looking forward all day to ds finally sleeping and me getting some shut eye and now I can't stop snorting out loud. Snapped and farted..oh no ds is stirring..Grin

HelloFrostyMorning · 18/01/2022 22:54

@GreenTeaPingPong

I don't understand all these people accusing OP of being very very rude. Weird, yes, but rude? Is it in Debrett's after always bring a gift for the host, never make owl noises while someone is telling you off for eating the wrong yoghurt?

To answer my own question, perhaps those taking umbrage are also doing SW and feel defensive. I've been on MN way too long, and years ago, a thread like this would just have been full of bad puns, not po-faced disapproval.

No sure if this is serious or not! Grin

I am a bit tired. Up VERY early today after less than 6 hours broken sleep!

PinkButtercups · 18/01/2022 22:58

Stop being a know-it-owl.

You enjoy your yogurt, she enjoys hers.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 18/01/2022 23:02

I might have to step away.

I’m looking at other threads such as

‘How do You make a party unforgettable?’

I really want to put ‘converse in owl’.

LeCreusetLove · 18/01/2022 23:03

@Mulliganandohare

Maybe Asda yogurts give you irritable b-owl
This has absolutely ended me. Literal tears of laughter Grin
spudjulia · 18/01/2022 23:03

Owls hoot. Pigeons coo coo. You pigeoned in her face. That's not cool.

Jacketpotato84 · 18/01/2022 23:05

Owl noise like ooooo terwit to woooooo?
I reckon she's autistic we seem to want to follow the rules very rigidly

Flutterflybutterby · 18/01/2022 23:07

@Pikaso

“ Every time you post it sounds even more weird.

Do you do this a lot?

How do people generally react?”

People normally just stop talking

This is my favourite ever post on Mumsnet 😂😂😂

Not cowl?

2022NameChange · 18/01/2022 23:12

Ok guys you need to help me out here, is this for real ? I've had a glass of wine and I've just sprayed half of it over my laptop when I got half way through the OP's comments.. "cooo cooo" where the heck do you work, Longleat? Is this a normal signal for calming a colleague?

PyongyangKipperbang · 18/01/2022 23:14

YABU if you think that SW or WW is a long term solution. Its scientifically designed to be a short term fix that keeps you paying week in and week out. And ultimately you will still be overweight, I know because I tried them all. Low carbing is what got me for a 22 to an 8.

The owls....well thats personal.

Jacketpotato84 · 18/01/2022 23:18

Op I think I'm more intreaged by the type of noise you made in her face could you maybe post us a YouTube vid of what the noise was?
Is it a pigeon type? an owl? More like a giraffe even? I really can't tell,
Maybe I could use the same noise to try and calm other people

madisonbridges · 18/01/2022 23:18

@Pikaso

I’ve apologised to her, she said she wasn’t even bothered about what I did, she was more frustrated with getting to grips with “the rules”
I think that was very kind of you. I understand what you were saying and you're right, but you perhaps lacked tact. Well done for apologising, especially as you didn't think you were in the wrong. Poor woman thinking she'd understood and you come along and undermine her using science! But good for you for being the bigger person. x

Whatever you say, Hedwig.
LadyPropane · 18/01/2022 23:32

Do you do any other animal noises in conversation?

I think I might start doing fox noises.

SunnyLeaf · 18/01/2022 23:37

Love this. But why owl noises??

Ifonlyidknownthen · 18/01/2022 23:38

Did your mean to cuckoo instead I wonder, definitely would have made more sense

FavouriteMug · 18/01/2022 23:40

@Pikaso

It was just so daft!! She’s an intelligent person, I couldn’t believe she was so brainwashed to think that the brand mattered!

Anyone who thinks a low fat diet is a sustainable or healthy way to lose weight is far from intelligent.

HairyFanjoBanjo · 18/01/2022 23:41

Diets don’t work long term.

Lalliella · 18/01/2022 23:53

Owl noises?? Brilliant OP! I can’t wait to do that to someone now! Those Muller Lights are shit anyway, full of artificial sweeteners and crap. YADNBU

Bunnyfuller · 19/01/2022 00:05

I call bs. The muller lights thing was years ago. They’re ‘synned’ ’ now.

It doesn’t recommend much different from any other weight loss plan, and like all rest, only works as much as you stick to it,
