To have laughed at her Slimming World advice?

831 replies

Pikaso · 18/01/2022 13:04

Woman at work has been doing Slimming World. She’s obsessed with it and goes on about it constantly armed with her books and Muller Lights at every meal.
I told her last week I was going to give it a go. I didn’t buy Muller Lights but instead bought some asda own yogurts which had almost identical calorie, fat and sugar content. Sat down to eat lunch yesterday and she came in and said “I thought you were doing slimming world?”. I said “I am” so she said “how many syns in those yogurts?” So I said “none, they’re the same as muller lights”. She replied “no, you’re meant to eat Muller lights!” And looked really concerned and worried!! I did owl noises in her face and told her the calories, sugar and fat etc were exactly the same so why would it matter??! She actually left the room muttering about how it won’t work if you don’t do it properly.

I did slimming world a few years back and stopped because of the cult like behaviour of the members and leaders. I thought I’d give it another go but she has totally put me off again! Nothing has changed!!
She’s been off with me ever since. WIBU to have laughed at her muller light concerns?? Common sense tells you it’s the calories etc that matter, not the bloody name on the pot!!

@miltonj

Honestly this is only the 2nd ever post that has brought me to tears, Im trying to put my sleeping baby down to bed but Im laughing uncontrollably.
What was the first?
Bwix · 18/01/2022 21:57

Omg. My pelvic floor cannot deal with the owl noises. Seriously is this a Thing anywhere?

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 18/01/2022 21:58

This could gave been in an episode of UK Office.

Imagine Barbara’s outrage at finding her Mueller Lite inside a jelly.

Then we’ll see who does the best owl noise.

IWasHotInTheNineties · 18/01/2022 22:01

Somewhere out there there’s an owl eating a Muller lite that’s less confused than me Confused

ChampagneLassie · 18/01/2022 22:03

You're both bonkers as these types of diets have been scientifically proven to be rubbish and those low-fat full of additive yougarts are horrid whatever label on them. Checkout keto for a diet with actual science backing where you eat proper food

Combustablecustard · 18/01/2022 22:06

You were rude. Right but unnecessarily rude.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 18/01/2022 22:07

Is this aiming for Classics but failing (embarrassingly)?

imsanehonest · 18/01/2022 22:12

Owls don't 'coo coo'. That's a wood pigeon isn't it? But I guess "...then I made wood pigeon noises at her" just doesn't have the same ring to it 🤷‍♀️

IWantMoreStationery · 18/01/2022 22:14

@Combustablecustard

You were rude. Right but unnecessarily rude.
I don't know how I would have responded.

Not owl noises but surely ''Don't be such such a twat' is just as rude.

UnlimitedChipsAndSalsa · 18/01/2022 22:15

OP's apology was accepted. I knew it would owl work out in the end.

Nothingsfine · 18/01/2022 22:16

Hope you've shown her the recipe for syn free Gruffalo crumble OP

UnlimitedChipsAndSalsa · 18/01/2022 22:18

@ClawedButler

Ah, I think I can surmise what happened.

Muller Mary: I've let slip about the yoghurts
Pikaso: You twit, to who?

@ClawedButler I've read every post on here and this post stands out among some tough competition (including some of your other comments). Thank you! ::bows respectfully::
FortunesFave · 18/01/2022 22:20

The Owl noises are obviously when you go "OOooH!" in a sarcastic way at someone when they're getting all het up.

Ellowyn · 18/01/2022 22:21

We have a pair of great horned owls here all year. They nest in the garden late winter/early spring. When they are hunting they screech but when they are talking to each other they do the classic, "whoo whoo". I watch them every evening going "Whoo whoo" right in each others faces.

Mummyratbag · 18/01/2022 22:21

I'm hoping to see a thread saying...

I was minding my own business eating my lunch when a colleague joined me. We were discussing diets when she suddenly swooped in close and started making pigeon owl noises in my face. She thinks I'm avoiding her now (I am)... AIBU in never sharing my dieting tips again? I think her inferior yoghurts may have fermented!

IWantMoreStationery · 18/01/2022 22:22

So funny.

I think I'm with OP with the owl noises. Nobody likes Barbara and her Muller Lites.

Crimeismymiddlename · 18/01/2022 22:32

I’m, you were rude. Also this is exactly why I have told no one I am slimming world, no one can comment then.

Dubbin · 18/01/2022 22:38

I just cannot stop laughing at the owl noises!! One of the funniest things I’ve ever read!🤣🤣🤣

covilha · 18/01/2022 22:40

Gosh, are you always this rude?She will probably have left the room muttering because of your behaviour
, not your words 💐

HeckinMiffed · 18/01/2022 22:43

@MabelsApron

Does anyone remember Green Wing? There's a sketch in there about the noises birds make. Alan Statham does a weird impression of a chaffinch. I'm sort of imagining that, but with yoghurt.

Either way, not sure you can object to the irrationality of Slimming World cultisms if you habitually make bird noises at people. People in glass houses etc.

God I loved Green Wing! I too imagined Statham doing a bird impression!
SheldonesqueTheBstard · 18/01/2022 22:46

Owlet the dogs out? Hoo hoo hoo hoo?

MargotsBumpyNight · 18/01/2022 22:48

Lord Groan, is that you?

Turtlerunner · 18/01/2022 22:49

Pikaso I love you just for the bizarrely random interruption method. I'm h-owling over here Grin

Toasterandjam · 18/01/2022 22:50

You shouldn't give a hoot about the yoghurts oh but you did!😂😂😂

GreenTeaPingPong · 18/01/2022 22:50

I don't understand all these people accusing OP of being very very rude. Weird, yes, but rude? Is it in Debrett's after always bring a gift for the host, never make owl noises while someone is telling you off for eating the wrong yoghurt?

To answer my own question, perhaps those taking umbrage are also doing SW and feel defensive. I've been on MN way too long, and years ago, a thread like this would just have been full of bad puns, not po-faced disapproval.
