To have laughed at her Slimming World advice?

Pikaso · 18/01/2022 13:04

Woman at work has been doing Slimming World. She’s obsessed with it and goes on about it constantly armed with her books and Muller Lights at every meal.
I told her last week I was going to give it a go. I didn’t buy Muller Lights but instead bought some asda own yogurts which had almost identical calorie, fat and sugar content. Sat down to eat lunch yesterday and she came in and said “I thought you were doing slimming world?”. I said “I am” so she said “how many syns in those yogurts?” So I said “none, they’re the same as muller lights”. She replied “no, you’re meant to eat Muller lights!” And looked really concerned and worried!! I did owl noises in her face and told her the calories, sugar and fat etc were exactly the same so why would it matter??! She actually left the room muttering about how it won’t work if you don’t do it properly.

I did slimming world a few years back and stopped because of the cult like behaviour of the members and leaders. I thought I’d give it another go but she has totally put me off again! Nothing has changed!!
She’s been off with me ever since. WIBU to have laughed at her muller light concerns?? Common sense tells you it’s the calories etc that matter, not the bloody name on the pot!!

You are both u and daft for following such a nutritionally unsound and bonkers diet like Slimming World.
Slight derail, but why is SW bonkers? I thought it was pretty reasonable - can't you be referred to it by the NHS?

Blue4YOU · 18/01/2022 15:39

I’m wondering what kind of freaky owls make pigeon sounds as well as their own noises.
And what making either noise in this context actually conveys is a temporary slip of sanity.

TheKeatingFive · 18/01/2022 15:40

Well you're not wrong but you don't sound very pleasant

AmyDudley · 18/01/2022 15:40

You sound fowl.

AlwaysinaFlap · 18/01/2022 15:40

Can you say which of these you used as they could have very different meanings ?

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 18/01/2022 15:40

@Pikaso

I wasn’t saying cuckoo. It was literally a gentle “coooo coooo … “ just to break her train of thought
Yes, because that makes perfect sense Grin
iklboo · 18/01/2022 15:40

Slimming world does not encourage healthy lifestyle habits, so you're not wrong about it.

Eat more fruit & veg
Eat less fatty & sugary foods
Exercise

Awful lifestyle habit advice there.

Ricksteinsfishwife · 18/01/2022 15:41

Gosh, owl noises, how very odd and rude.

roarfeckingroarr · 18/01/2022 15:42

Still... owl noises?!

*Do you do this a lot?

How do people generally react?”

———-
People normally just stop talking*

Yes cos they think you're bloody bonkers. If I was talking to someone and they randomly made animal noises I'd stop talking too in sheer amazement

It's certainly effective, the downside being theyre all thinking you're off your head

Wonder what your nickname at work is 🤔 🦉🦉

AllTheColoursOfGerberas · 18/01/2022 15:43

does Alvin Stardust impression complete with leather glove and large rings

'Coo Coo I just want you'

DavidSPumpkins · 18/01/2022 15:45

Do you mean a Cuckoo noise, OP? As in implying somebody is cuckoo?

AllTheColoursOfGerberas · 18/01/2022 15:46

Owly McOwlson?
Pawprintpaper · 18/01/2022 15:51

@LadyLaSnack

You really should have lured her back to for tea in your treetop house to have this discussion.
Grin

I was with you about the yoghurts but changed my vote to yabu with the bird noises.

EssexLioness · 18/01/2022 15:51

I can be a pretty weird fucker but this behaviour is utterly bizarre! Is this for real? You actually made owl noises at her? Utterly batshit and you don’t even seem to realise how weird this!

I agree with your logic about the yoghurts but the rest of it is one of the weirdest things I ever read on mumsnet

Pawprintpaper · 18/01/2022 15:52

To be fair I think an owl is more likely on a paleo diet

Branleuse · 18/01/2022 15:53

@Pikaso

I didn’t screech at her, it was just a coo coo type thing
that would be pigeon or possibly cuckoo
Oldraver · 18/01/2022 15:53

@Aloha7373

Barn or tawny? There’s a world of difference
First time I heard a female Tawny Owl I thought someone was being murdered, I didnt realise what it was at first
Hookalong · 18/01/2022 15:57

Perhaps the OP is a Brownie leader and put on her Brown Owl voice.

Hankunamatata · 18/01/2022 16:00

People do get obsessed depending on their leader. I went to few different classes and found really fine to earth lady. Who talked about portion sizing - not limiting but thinking about it, eating more fruit and veg, perhaps using syns for things that might make you feel fuller like fuller fat yogurt. People get scared to deviate from strict line as they want to lose weight do much.

Hookalong · 18/01/2022 16:01

Eat more fruit & veg

Awful lifestyle habit advice there.

Why - it seems sensible to me? Is this some dieting cult reply?

EishetChayil · 18/01/2022 16:01

Ohgod not another snapped and farted / you are the carcass.

It's not that funny, guys.

Dixiechickonhols · 18/01/2022 16:01

More sw bashing. Worked for me and no I don’t eat muller lights. Lost 5 stone in 8 months size 20 to 12.
I’ve had natural skyr yoghurt (high protein) and fruit for breakfast, homemade tomato & lentil soup and a wholemeal pitta and cheese for lunch then will make something from scratch tonight probably Slimming foodie fiesta beef (5% mince, rice and veg). Walk 10,000 steps. Can have a bit of chocolate tonight if I fancy it. Not hungry. Not weighing everything. Not cutting out food groups. 1/3 each meal veg.

joydivisionovengloves71 · 18/01/2022 16:02

To be fair Muller Lights are rank, no wonder you took an Asda one in.
