To have laughed at her Slimming World advice?

831 replies

Pikaso · 18/01/2022 13:04

Woman at work has been doing Slimming World. She’s obsessed with it and goes on about it constantly armed with her books and Muller Lights at every meal.
I told her last week I was going to give it a go. I didn’t buy Muller Lights but instead bought some asda own yogurts which had almost identical calorie, fat and sugar content. Sat down to eat lunch yesterday and she came in and said “I thought you were doing slimming world?”. I said “I am” so she said “how many syns in those yogurts?” So I said “none, they’re the same as muller lights”. She replied “no, you’re meant to eat Muller lights!” And looked really concerned and worried!! I did owl noises in her face and told her the calories, sugar and fat etc were exactly the same so why would it matter??! She actually left the room muttering about how it won’t work if you don’t do it properly.

I did slimming world a few years back and stopped because of the cult like behaviour of the members and leaders. I thought I’d give it another go but she has totally put me off again! Nothing has changed!!
She’s been off with me ever since. WIBU to have laughed at her muller light concerns?? Common sense tells you it’s the calories etc that matter, not the bloody name on the pot!!

You sounded strange to start with, with the owl noises, your follow-up posts are even more bizarre. I would find you very... odd if you were my colleague and made owl noises at me.

PinotPony · 18/01/2022 16:04

Owl noises?! Oh god.... what fresh madness is this?! 😂

...and you are both BU by believing that SW (or any other temporary diet) will keep the weight off.

Hoppinggreen · 18/01/2022 16:05

@EishetChayil

Ohgod not another snapped and farted / you are the carcass.

It's not that funny, guys.

I don’t find OP funny at all but some of the replies are brilliant
SamMil · 18/01/2022 16:06

This thread is odd. What kind of person "coos" at their colleagues...?!

Siepie · 18/01/2022 16:09

I think I can imagine the 'cooo cooo' noise OP means. My parents would do it to get my attention if I was engrossed in a book or something.

It's still an incredibly bizarre - and rude! - thing to do while someone's talking to you. Surely not interrupting people is social skill #1 as is not making bird noises mid conversation

User2638483 · 18/01/2022 16:09

Ah reminds me of my colleague. She said she couldn’t make the team Christmas dinner because she had her first slimming world weigh in that night. So we made it for the next night instead and all put our choices on the group chat. She went for the deep fried Brie, a big main, and a sticky toffee pudding. So glad we changed the date so she could make slimming world which she was obviously very committed too 😂

To be fair most folk are finding it bizarre and rude rather than funny. I dont think this has gone how the OP expected
EdenFlower · 18/01/2022 16:10

eh? Am I missing something? I don't understand what you mean by owl noises or the significance or point of making them- can you post a video?

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 18/01/2022 16:11

Omg. I am crying at owl noises. Literally crying my laughter at my desk

Socialcarenope · 18/01/2022 16:14

The owl noises are just batshit!

Curiousendeavours · 18/01/2022 16:15

@Pikaso

“ Every time you post it sounds even more weird.

Do you do this a lot?

How do people generally react?”

———-
People normally just stop talking

It's probably because you sound unhinged. What adult would make 'owl noises' at another adult to stop them talking?
lynntheyresexswappers · 18/01/2022 16:17

This is just another crap attempt to get into classics - why on earth would someone make an owl noise mid conversation about a fucking yoghurt?

AryaStarkWolf · 18/01/2022 16:17

@EishetChayil What was You are the carcass about?

EmmaH2022 · 18/01/2022 16:19
@EishetChayil What was You are the carcass about?
I'm wondering this too....

iklboo · 18/01/2022 16:19

@Hookalong - I was being sarcastic, sorry

lovemelongtime · 18/01/2022 16:20

I would love to hear the owl noises , not sure what my response would be if someone made owl noises at me - i hope I would laugh.

violetbunny · 18/01/2022 16:21

This thread has made my day, how does one nominate a thread for Classics?
Owl noises GrinGrinGrin

AlDanvers · 18/01/2022 16:21

So many questions.

If you did it before why did you tell her you might give it a go. You already did it.

She is sticking to what she has been told, nor sure how she is a twat. Sw night be a pile of shite, but you willing told her you were joining her in the pile. You have done it before and knew what to do so why tell her you were going to take her advice and lead when you already knew you weren't?

How did it go from 'I made owl noise in her face' to 'ijust made a coo noise, gentley, to get a word in'

Did you think owl noises were something people normally do? Have people done it to you?

NowEvenBetter · 18/01/2022 16:24

You think a woman calling another woman ‘cuckoo’ is amazing, so funny? Hmm

WhiteJellycat · 18/01/2022 16:27

It's just a low GI diet but I find the leaders never explain this so would anyone know?

I think they need to be clear that's it's all about filling up on very low GI food. So 1/3 is gi negliable, one third is low GI and the other third is carbs or protein.

I cant get worked up about unless I have to listen to someone telling the group that they had a deep fried Mars bar but didnt loose weight.

Or even worse they had a deep fried Mars bar with every meal for a week and still lost 7lbs.

I hate the later very much. Gives me the rage actually

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 18/01/2022 16:30

If you made owl noises at me, I wouldn't think you were funny, I'd think you were rude and act the same way she has tbh.

OniferousWasp · 18/01/2022 16:30

@Pikaso

I didn’t screech at her, it was just a coo coo type thing
Why? That seems like such a stupid thing to do. Unless it was to someone that you’re in such terms with.

Very interested in the answer to the last paragraph.
Benjispruce5 · 18/01/2022 16:34

Yabu to make noises in someone face but yanbu to buy own brand and explain.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 18/01/2022 16:35

I am now considering cooing gently at colleagues who won't shut up on Teams calls. I can imagine the deathly and confused silence now (no doubt to the backdrop of emails being typed to HR) but it might be worth a punt.
