To have laughed at her Slimming World advice?

Pikaso · 18/01/2022 13:04

Woman at work has been doing Slimming World. She’s obsessed with it and goes on about it constantly armed with her books and Muller Lights at every meal.
I told her last week I was going to give it a go. I didn’t buy Muller Lights but instead bought some asda own yogurts which had almost identical calorie, fat and sugar content. Sat down to eat lunch yesterday and she came in and said “I thought you were doing slimming world?”. I said “I am” so she said “how many syns in those yogurts?” So I said “none, they’re the same as muller lights”. She replied “no, you’re meant to eat Muller lights!” And looked really concerned and worried!! I did owl noises in her face and told her the calories, sugar and fat etc were exactly the same so why would it matter??! She actually left the room muttering about how it won’t work if you don’t do it properly.

I did slimming world a few years back and stopped because of the cult like behaviour of the members and leaders. I thought I’d give it another go but she has totally put me off again! Nothing has changed!!
She’s been off with me ever since. WIBU to have laughed at her muller light concerns?? Common sense tells you it’s the calories etc that matter, not the bloody name on the pot!!

You wound really childish I'd not want to talk to you either.

Hibye23289 · 18/01/2022 15:17

What is an owl noise?? Twit tawoooo 🤣🤣

Topseyt · 18/01/2022 15:18

Owl noises!! Bloody hell. If course she stopped talking as it was so ridiculous, rude and twatty. Yes, you owe her a big apology for your behaviour.

It might have been more polite to have snapped and farted, as per another thread that lives on in MN infamy. 🤣🤣

I think you derailed your own thread over this. 🤣🙄

cjpark · 18/01/2022 15:18

This is the weirdest thing i've read all day. Please tell me why you made a dove noise stop her train of thought? Personally, if I wanted to make an animal noise to interrupt someone I would roar or perhaps trump. I think it would be more dramatic and convey urgency.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 18/01/2022 15:18

Why though?

Because she cooocould?

CrazyMama10 · 18/01/2022 15:20

Sometimes brands can make a difference on slimming world, perhaps not in this exact case but they can. Yes she may have been abit rude and could have been a little more polite with you, however owl noises in her face? That’s awful. I’m not at all surprised she left the room! You sound very rude.

theshadeofgreen · 18/01/2022 15:20

"She was banging on and on about how it had to be muller lights and I couldn’t get a word in edgeways so I did owl noises to get her to take a breath so I could speak"

Adopting this technique with my kids asap. Will feed back 🦉

@ChessieFL

I remember when I used to do slimming world and there was a woman in my group who ate about 10 muller lights a day. She thought it was fine because they were free (this was before they gave them a syn value). It’s worrying that there are people who follow the rules so blindly and cant apply any common sense.
Wasn't this the exact reason why they ended up giving them syns cos people were being greedy twats and eating tons of then at a time!! I know my exH and Exmil did. I don't think they grasped that just because something was syn free it didn't make it calorie free
Viviennemary · 18/01/2022 15:22

Making owl noises. How rude. You are both u and daft for following such a nutritionally unsound and bonkers diet like Slimming World.

AllTheColoursOfGerberas · 18/01/2022 15:23

Owl noises?
Are you 5?

Just10moreminutesplease · 18/01/2022 15:23

Making owl noises in someone’s face is bizarre and really rude Confused.

TheresSomebodyAtTheDoorNeil · 18/01/2022 15:24

First of all we need to discuss the owl noises

HowDareYouStealThatCar · 18/01/2022 15:25

You can't just make owl noises at people when you want them to shut up 🤣🤣🤣

PinkSyCo · 18/01/2022 15:29

Wonder how many syns it is for a small mouse or vole?

🤣🤣🤣

BrightYellowDaffodil · 18/01/2022 15:30

I mean, reading this thread was 20 minutes of my life I won't get back but it was worth it

@Pikaso, do you have a repertoire of animal noises for all situations? And are they specific? For example, would an elephant's trumpet be more appropriate to someone pushing into a queue than, say, the noise of an angry water buffalo?

The best thing about microwaving an owl is that you can maintain eye contact the whole time.

@ClawedButler stop it, I can't breathe Grin

Snow1n · 18/01/2022 15:31

You sound awful. So you've asked her to give you all the info so you dont have to pay for the classes or the online info? Lovely

Christinatherabbit · 18/01/2022 15:31

Shes intelligent but you 'coo coo' / make owl noises is someone's face to get them to stop talking. This is surely not real? How bizarre? No wonder she's off with you

madisonbridges · 18/01/2022 15:31

Why would you laugh at her? She's found something that works for her and she was happy. I think you sound mean.

LookItsMeAgain · 18/01/2022 15:32

@SheldonesqueTheBstard

Why though?

Because she cooocould?

PMSL!!!! Save me now Grin

This thread may be a bit cuckoo but it’s such a hoot and a real tweet to read!

anon12345678901 · 18/01/2022 15:32

Slimming world does not encourage healthy lifestyle habits, so you're not wrong about it. The owl noises sound interesting though... I'm gutted Mumsnet don't allow voice clips so you can do it here 😔😂

dafey · 18/01/2022 15:33

What's an owl noise?!

BrightYellowDaffodil · 18/01/2022 15:34

@dafey

What's an owl noise?!
Surprisingly, it's the noise an owl makes.
BashStreetKid · 18/01/2022 15:35

@Pikaso

She was banging on and on about how it had to be muller lights and I couldn’t get a word in edgeways so I did owl noises to get her to take a breath so I could speak
But why owl noises? Why not just say "Excuse me, could I say something?" firmly. It's not as if the owl is synonymous with stupidity, after all, rather the reverse.
