To think my neighbour stole my laptop?

This is going to sound a bit ridiculous, but I promise it's true, unless I've lost my mind.

I went away for three weeks. During this time I asked my NDN to look after my cat - I left all the food, litter, poo bags etc.

I offered them £10 per day to do this, however, they refused and said I could repay the favour one day. We are quite friendly, she's a teacher and he works for a bank - both late thirties. Not that it matters, just so I'm not dripfeeding.

I take in a lot of Amazon deliveries for them and they would do the same for me.

I got home today and my laptop is gone - I always keep it in the same place on my desk. It was 100% there before I left. Thinking they might have moved it for whatever reason (fine) I text her to ask.

She told me I better not be accusing her of stealing it because she would never do that. I said I wasn't saying that at all, just a bit perplexed as I didn't take it with me.

Now she hasn't replied, but she's read my message.

What's that? @HelloFrostyMorning

A plopper is when an OP comes along and posts a juicy post, then possibly makes one or two brief updates and is never heard of again.

They know people would like an update but get off on not coming back.

Emerald5hamrock · 16/01/2022 18:44

This is going to be in the newspapers. Grin

wedonttalkaboutmyposts · 16/01/2022 21:56

Did you take it on holiday and leave it in the safe?

Thank you! Looks like @StarWa IS a plopper. Not been back with an update. Sad

@Theimpossiblegirl

No good deed goes unpunished is a song in Wicked. Just because Jesus didn't say it, it's still a saying.

Also wondering when the OP it's going to come back and admit that she found her laptop hidden somewhere...

THERE WAS A TYPO!

The post said erroneously "No good DEAD goes unpunished."

I am aware of Oscar Wilde's witticism than you very much! (Though I didn't;t know it was a song in Wicked, whatever Wicked is)

marpelier · 17/01/2022 02:11

Fecking OP . Annoying!

marpelier · 17/01/2022 02:12

I mean they are annoying by not updating. I did lol at the pp who posted that she hasn't been back because she realised she had typed the OP on the "missing" laptop.

phishy · 17/01/2022 05:34

Sorry to victim blame but why not lock up valuable things?

I hide laptops and tablets when we go out for the day!

readingismycardio · 17/01/2022 05:38

Did you find it, OP?

BreakingGood45 · 17/01/2022 05:41

Any updates?

beinglikedisoverrated · 17/01/2022 09:20

I'll pretend to be the OP and bring everyone closureSmile

I found it after I originally posted but feel too embarrassed to come back and admit it. Now, how do I face my neighbour?

Thank you that has helped actually! GrinWink
Bluetrews25 · 17/01/2022 12:35

You face your neighbour from behind a big bunch of flowers, a bottle of whatever they drink, a box of lovely chocolates and a huge, huge apology.
HTH.

Thank you beinglikedisoverrated Grin

Zonder · 17/01/2022 12:59

The OP doesn't need to make an apology though. If you reread what she said in the text there was no accusation.

Bananalanacake · 17/01/2022 13:26

As I get older I'm getting better at forgetting where I put things.

Any news on the laptop OP?
StarWa · 17/01/2022 19:11

Sorry, I've been busy with work, and searching my home top to bottom in case I had a memory lapse and hid my laptop somewhere 🤪

I always leave it plugged in in the same place because if I move it or unplug it the battery just goes weird and dies instantly.

I wasn't accusatory in my text, it was just asking if they'd seen it and was very friendly, as we always are.

My neighbour is going to pop round for a chat tonight. (She asked if that was ok. I didn't summon her!)

Apart from that, I still don't know what's happened, I couldn't find my laptop on the search function. 🤷🏻‍♀️

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 17/01/2022 19:28

Does she regularly come round for a chat?maybe she has something to confess

StarWa · 17/01/2022 19:31

She does pop round sometimes but normally just knocks on the door.

She's still not here; now I'm feeling weird and anxious!!

OP posts:
AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 17/01/2022 19:36

Suspicious then, do report back Smile

Freecuthbert · 17/01/2022 19:38

Very happy to see you're still with us OP Grin though I was hoping you'd be returning with your laptop.

Please update after she's come over for a chat. I wonder what that's about.

Pieceofpurplesky · 17/01/2022 19:43

Intriguing

StarWa · 17/01/2022 19:45

Haha, I know! Thank you. I'm one of those people who (usually) always blames themselves and would never accuse anyone of anything if I think I may have made a mistake!

She's still not here 😂

OP posts:
Landof · 17/01/2022 20:16

Been keeping an eye so I'm pleased you're back. I'm baffled! I wonder what the neighbour will say?!

Xiaoxiong · 17/01/2022 20:20

This is really strange. It makes me wonder not if she took it herself but if something happened and she is worrying it might be connected? Maybe she forgot to lock the door, or when she was in your house she thought she heard someone but dismissed it and now your laptop's gone she's thinking that might have been a burglar.
