To think my neighbour stole my laptop?

This is going to sound a bit ridiculous, but I promise it's true, unless I've lost my mind.

I went away for three weeks. During this time I asked my NDN to look after my cat - I left all the food, litter, poo bags etc.

I offered them £10 per day to do this, however, they refused and said I could repay the favour one day. We are quite friendly, she's a teacher and he works for a bank - both late thirties. Not that it matters, just so I'm not dripfeeding.

I take in a lot of Amazon deliveries for them and they would do the same for me.

I got home today and my laptop is gone - I always keep it in the same place on my desk. It was 100% there before I left. Thinking they might have moved it for whatever reason (fine) I text her to ask.

She told me I better not be accusing her of stealing it because she would never do that. I said I wasn't saying that at all, just a bit perplexed as I didn't take it with me.

Now she hasn't replied, but she's read my message.

Don’t be fed up - that was a really good post and well done you for calling out “Carol”[/quote]
Thank you! Smile

@DoctorManhattan

OP just realised she arrived back at the wrong house
OP is a conservative MP and didn't know she was in the wrong house GrinGrin
Lovemusic33 · 16/01/2022 16:01

I hope OP returns even if she did find it where she actually left it. I’m the sort of person that would do this, I have suspected ADHD and I’m always forgetting where I left things and then accusing my kids of taking them 🤣

SailingNotSurfing · 16/01/2022 16:03

She's too embarrassed to admit she'd tidied it away into her laptop bag and had hidden it in her knicker drawer.

IVbumble · 16/01/2022 16:33

To think my neighbour stole OP?

Zonder · 16/01/2022 16:50

@Hankunamatata

If you log onto Microsoft account you can track devices, I think
No way! I'm going to try that.

Did you try it, OP?

@JugglingJanuary

No poster history, I think we may have all been wound up!
I normally change my name if I’m going to start a thread that’s identifying, so it’s not associated with all the other twaddle I post. No poster history doesn’t always mean new poster.
lindyloo57 · 16/01/2022 17:01

We need a update.

Livelovebehappy · 16/01/2022 17:09

I think the fact they’re professional people suggests they’re intelligent, so I would be surprised if they had taken the laptop, on the basis that it would be so obvious.

Viviennemary · 16/01/2022 17:22

Maybe one of her kids stole it if she herself didn't. Thats what I would suspect.

Thatsplentyjack · 16/01/2022 17:26

@ParkheadParadise

I would be round your door pronto if you sent me that text.
🤣 to do what exactly? It's a reasonable question to ask the only people that had access your house.

True, but do you usually name change, start a controversial thread & not return??

riceuten · 16/01/2022 17:47

There's no chance a thief would come in and nick just a laptop.

Could it be a family member of hers ?

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 16/01/2022 17:53

Just fucking tell us
If you’ve found it. People will prefer to know you were mistaken than be left hanging. It’s such a dick move to just leave a thread like this!

Yes there is actually.
Bettyboopawoop · 16/01/2022 17:57

I can hardly Believe someone would risk losing their career by pinching a laptop, teachers have to have DBs checks and I don't think a teacher would want theft on their DBs check.

HyacynthBucket · 16/01/2022 18:07

Do you have a relative, say brother, sister, cousin, who may have key to your home, and could have borrowed the laptop?

GrannytoaUnicorn · 16/01/2022 18:07

I'm guessing OP found the laptop and is too embarrassed to return to the thread and admit it. 🙄 Probably asked MNHQ to delete it though they would've refused of course!
Just my speculation

Acrasia · 16/01/2022 18:08

Why do people think that the OP when in guns blazing with an accusatory text? Nowhere in the OP does she tells us the actual text just that:

Thinking they might have moved it for whatever reason (fine) I text her to ask.

She told me I better not be accusing her of stealing it because she would never do that. I said I wasn't saying that at all, just a bit perplexed as I didn't take it with me.”

The way I read it is that she only thinks her neighbour might have taken it because her immediate response was to say that she’d better not be accusing her of doin so, when, in fact, there was no accusation.

Sorry, wrong thread!

I do find the defensiveness a bit odd, to be honest, in your neighbour's response. It's a bit DARVO. Hopefully there will turn out to be a reasonable explanation for everything and your laptop will show up soon...!

Livebythecoast · 16/01/2022 18:17

@Alcemeg - I think you've posted on the wrong thread Wink

Livebythecoast · 16/01/2022 18:18

X- post!
