To think my neighbour stole my laptop?

This is going to sound a bit ridiculous, but I promise it's true, unless I've lost my mind.

I went away for three weeks. During this time I asked my NDN to look after my cat - I left all the food, litter, poo bags etc.

I offered them £10 per day to do this, however, they refused and said I could repay the favour one day. We are quite friendly, she's a teacher and he works for a bank - both late thirties. Not that it matters, just so I'm not dripfeeding.

I take in a lot of Amazon deliveries for them and they would do the same for me.

I got home today and my laptop is gone - I always keep it in the same place on my desk. It was 100% there before I left. Thinking they might have moved it for whatever reason (fine) I text her to ask.

She told me I better not be accusing her of stealing it because she would never do that. I said I wasn't saying that at all, just a bit perplexed as I didn't take it with me.

Now she hasn't replied, but she's read my message.

OP is obviously a very busy, forgetful person if this thread is anything to go by.

hoomae · 18/01/2022 10:12

Has she turned up yet?

Whereismumhiding3 · 18/01/2022 10:22

@BertramLacey

My guess is that she's confessed to the OP that on reflection, outsourcing cat sitting duties to her nephew, light-fingered Bob MacNikkit, was not the wisest decision.
That's what I wondered GrinGrin

But as OP hasn't returned to her own thread, leaving MN hanging since 19:45 last night .. I wonder if it WAS THE NDN! And yesterday evening when NDN popped round whilst OP was making her a cup of tea, NDN then half inched (pinched) OPs phone!!! So OP has no access to MN anymore... she's sat at home with no technology... in the dark ...

Bit of a locked room mystery isn't it? I'm getting distinctly "disappeared ironing board" and "vanished alcove" vibes from this Hmm

britneyisfree · 18/01/2022 10:24

Worried now op has been kidnapped and this thread will be used at the trial.....Shock

Enough4me · 18/01/2022 10:26

OP...can you hear us...are you there?

Mollysocks · 18/01/2022 10:28

I think OP and her laptop have disappeared into that black hole where hair grips and Tupperware lids go.

Enough4me · 18/01/2022 10:31

OMG, not the place where odd socks go...even the bright green ones? 😳

HappydaysArehere · 18/01/2022 10:37

Agree you have tucked it away somewhere. It is so easy to do this and forget what you did when you have been away for awhile. Loft, under the bed, under an ottoman etc etc.!!!! I always put lap top, tablet etc away out of sight. I feel sorry for your neighbours. I would have perhaps just shared with them that you have put it somewhere and you have had a mental block since you came back. If anything had happened they would tell you.

theemmadilemma · 18/01/2022 10:44

First the laptop, then the murder....

strawberrymilk7 · 18/01/2022 10:48

How did it go with the neighbour?

Shiteshow100 · 18/01/2022 10:49

Hahaha omg I need to know what happened. To OP and the laptop. I'm totally invested...

Wheresthebeach · 18/01/2022 10:58

She doesn't live in a small village...Midsummer...by any chance?

Mollysocks · 18/01/2022 11:02

@theemmadilemma

First the laptop, then the murder....
Is this the plot to Only Murders in the Building Series 2? 😄
Mollysocks · 18/01/2022 11:05

If so, we need a Podcast 😄

GrandDuchessRomanov · 18/01/2022 11:10

But has anyone contacted Johnathan Creek yet?

We would all have been put out of our misery within 60 mins, maybe 90 if it was at Christmas and classed as a "special"

RenGreen · 18/01/2022 11:12

Hope OP isn’t being held hostage by her neighbour

WhenwillIlearntoadult · 18/01/2022 11:13

I need to know what happened with the laptop and the neighbour!

Catrice · 18/01/2022 11:13

Please reply op!! I need to know what happened!!

Gonnagetgoing · 18/01/2022 11:23

I left my work laptop under a pile of papers on my work desk, shoved down the side of some bits of furniture (didn't want DNephew to get it).

Ipad similar - can be anywhere in the house from kitchen to bedroom to living room, with cat often on top of it.

mrstea301 · 18/01/2022 11:34

That's a good point - was the charger moved as well?

lovemelongtime · 18/01/2022 11:36

Looks like we will never know. What a cliff-hanger

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 18/01/2022 11:36

Shamelessly place marking

IntermittentParps · 18/01/2022 11:38

I'd check the whole house twice before texting the neighbour.
Hope you've found it.
