To think my neighbour stole my laptop?

This is going to sound a bit ridiculous, but I promise it's true, unless I've lost my mind.

I went away for three weeks. During this time I asked my NDN to look after my cat - I left all the food, litter, poo bags etc.

I offered them £10 per day to do this, however, they refused and said I could repay the favour one day. We are quite friendly, she's a teacher and he works for a bank - both late thirties. Not that it matters, just so I'm not dripfeeding.

I take in a lot of Amazon deliveries for them and they would do the same for me.

I got home today and my laptop is gone - I always keep it in the same place on my desk. It was 100% there before I left. Thinking they might have moved it for whatever reason (fine) I text her to ask.

She told me I better not be accusing her of stealing it because she would never do that. I said I wasn't saying that at all, just a bit perplexed as I didn't take it with me.

Now she hasn't replied, but she's read my message.

She won't know where it is...did OP do the thing where you locate it remotely?

DisforDarkChocolate · 18/01/2022 06:06

Kuachui · 18/01/2022 07:05

GrandDuchessRomanov · 18/01/2022 07:31

Did she turn up OP? If so, how did it go?

boomshakalacka · 18/01/2022 07:31

I think she knows something OP...

gunnersgold · 18/01/2022 07:33

Did she turn up? 🤔

Grandville · 18/01/2022 08:17

Gah the suspense!

Imayhaveerred · 18/01/2022 08:37

My guess - she took it intending it to be temporary e.g. to do an urgent piece of work or even lend it to a family member but broke it.

BliainNua · 18/01/2022 08:42

Interested to know what neighbour had to say! Hope your laptop turns up 🤞

Dearblossom · 18/01/2022 09:00

Gahhhhhh, OP you are such a tease, get back here!

PatchworkElmer · 18/01/2022 09:03

I think she’s broken it…

Shapiro · 18/01/2022 09:04

I feed a neighbours cats regularly and always move valuable things that are visible from the outside. They always leave their keys in the back door and I take them out and out in a kitchen drawer.

I also draw their downstairs curtains of a night and put a light on in the living room. I also park one of our cars in their drive whilst they are away.

They know I do all this and are pleased but somewhat bemused at implementing extra security measures.

I do it because I feel that the cats and the house are under my watch whilst they are away.

I’ve only read the beginning of this thread and the neighbours curt reply was suspicious.

BertramLacey · 18/01/2022 09:10

My guess is that she's confessed to the OP that on reflection, outsourcing cat sitting duties to her nephew, light-fingered Bob MacNikkit, was not the wisest decision.

yossell · 18/01/2022 09:12

Anyone else think the neighbour has now stolen the OP?

Mollysocks · 18/01/2022 09:24

I think she asked someone else to pop in and feed the cat and they took it. Either that or it’s been broken.

Have you filed a police report OP you can’t be sure there wasn’t a break in- neighbour didn’t close the door properly and someone walked in anyway I think you’d need it for a home insurance claim.

marpelier · 18/01/2022 09:37

Where is the power cord? That is important .
And where is OP ? And her neighbour.

Enough4me · 18/01/2022 09:40

@yossell you're right I'm the neighbour, I have the laptop and the OP...

Enough4me · 18/01/2022 09:41

JugglingJanuary · 18/01/2022 10:04
