My Cornwall with fern Britton
Kate (not so) Humble's coastal Britain...

Anyone else fed up with this?

Only on a par with Sarah Beanys house renovation programme. And those ones that own a farm and want to tell us all about how rural they are....
Hmm

Agree about Kaleb. All hail Kaleb!
I have a young friend very similar. Twenty one years old, running his own niche farming operation on family land. Fixing everything himself. Planning, growing, distributing. His mum, who is highly educated in a conventional way, worried about him. Whereas I (who have conventional highly educated kids) am brimming with envy. Amazing young man.

@DobbyTheHouseElk

Why does Cornwall belong to Fern Britton. Why did they go to Restormal castle to learn cornish. But didn’t look at the castle….why why why?
Is it Fern Britton’s though? Or is it Simon Reeves’? Or Dawn French’s? Or possibly Rick Stein’s? Grin
WhatASmashingBlouseYouHaveOn · 15/01/2022 11:33

There's Kelvin Fletchers Big Farming Adventure coming to TV soon, his wife and 3 kids just bought a huge farm in the peak district. Although they freely admit they have no farming experience (more money than sense) Grin

Righto - that's me told! I officially withdraw my objection to Jezzer, if he's waking people up to the many and multiplying woes that farmers face then he's a good thing and long may he reign ...

I freely admit l haven't watched his programme! Grin

It’s worth watching, he is his usual irritating self... but, you’ve got him doing stupid stuff contrasted with people who really do that for a living just straight out going, that’s a stupid thing to do, and why.

And he ends the series by pointing out that even with loads of resources he’s not made money and while he’ll obviously be fine because Amazon paid him to film, real farmers won’t be.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 15/01/2022 15:03

I’m no fan of Clarkson and object to his and Hammond and May’s gratuitous waste of money and resources when they blow up cars and travel the world for no real purpose, but, like everyone else, says, Clarkson’s Farm is a magnificent programme, Kaleb is a genius, Charlie is the voice of reason and the whole thing demonstrates the realities in ways that none of the others do.

Of course, Clarkson can afford the losses, but it shows him taking the whole thing seriously and wanting to make a success of it. If it shines a light on the hardships farmers face daily, not in a mawkish way, that must be a good thing.

@squashyhat

It can work to local peoples advantage though. A planning committee was apparently willing to let yet another chunk of countryside be swallowed up by a housing development until Rag n Bone Man got annoyed because it would spoil the view from his garden. Not saying Wealden District Council are on the take or anything but planning was refused. Result!
Is it a result though? Were affordable houses going to be part of the development?, there usually has to be a percentage to get planning so not necessarily to local people’s advantage if they then have to move out the area due to high house prices, and also you can bet your bottom dollar if Mr Smith at number 12 had complained about the development spoiling his view no notice would have been taken whatsoever as he isn’t a multi millionaire pop star.
Tsuni · 15/01/2022 15:22

Ed Sheeran is a rockstar? Hmm

Honestly, I can’t get worked up about these shows. It can’t be good for your blood pressure getting angry at rubbish you can easily avoid.

Tv channels make these shallow shit shows because they’re cheap to make.

I’ve seen “Sue Perkins in the USA” advertised. The Cornish and Scottish people are breathing a sigh of relief that they’re finally getting a break from the zlebs.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 15/01/2022 15:42

Yanbu but I think the Hairy Biker's should be allowed to remain the Kings of the North. As a Scot, I'm wondering why none of these celebs have claimed the run down ex mining village I live in. No mountains or Lochs but we've loads of creatures.

Twatface Clarkson deciding he's a farmer makes me grind my teeth ...
You couldn't be more wrong. Us farmers love him
derxa · 15/01/2022 16:04

Countryfile is not about farming, it's sanitised and pretty anti farming at times and Adam Henson is a patronising twat who minces about with a lot of money raising rare breeds in a farm park trying to make out he's hard done by with his 20+ staff and a farm manager.
Totally agree

longwayoff · 15/01/2022 16:07

Oh those heartbreaking Brexit voting farmers. But you're right about the zlebs.

Remain-voting farmer right here, thank you very much

Twatface Clarkson deciding he's a farmer makes me grind my teeth ...
He'd owned that farm for years before turning it into a tv programme.
dodobookends · 15/01/2022 17:17

I'm not all that fond of programmes about people living in a French chateau to be honest.

GrouchyKiwi · 15/01/2022 17:37

Is the Clarkson programme suitable for children? I'd imagine not but I've been surprised before.

Depends how keen you are to let your kids watch stuff with plentiful swearing.

Well they've been doing it to London for years.
longwayoff · 15/01/2022 17:44

Don't worry about Sarah Beeny's kids' social lives, the area is stuffed with suitable zlebkid mates. They won't be spending all their time basket weaving their own smocks.

GrouchyKiwi · 15/01/2022 17:47

jerome That's a no, then. Grin

toomuchlaundry · 15/01/2022 18:01

Clarkson’s Farm is age rated 15

TabithaTittlemouse · 15/01/2022 18:02

I don’t mind it. Although as a Cornish person I hate that it encourages second home ownership by people who want ‘the good life’.

gorseinonn22 · 15/01/2022 18:04

@TabithaTittlemouse have to agree about the contribution to pricing out local people from housing.
