My Cornwall with fern Britton
Kate (not so) Humble's coastal Britain...

Anyone else fed up with this?

Only on a par with Sarah Beanys house renovation programme. And those ones that own a farm and want to tell us all about how rural they are....
Hmm

I thought this yesterday before I turned the Fern Britton programme off. So many of these shows now. Having someone who's previously been on telly tell me what an area is like won't make me watch it. Same with that Scottish comedian woman's show. I don't care what they think. (I did enjoy Jeremy Clarksons farm though. Really funny.)

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 15/01/2022 08:22

What annoys me more is YouTubers moving to places like the Cotswolds from London and suddenly claiming they are country bumpkins and know exactly what the rural life is all about. They spend thousands on buying all the clothes and acting like they've been there their whole life.
It is incredibly fake and does my head in.

I'm from the Cotswolds but not currently living there.

@StormyCornishSeas

Those celeb makes a programme about Cornwall programmes annoy me. We live here stop explaining Cornwall to us.

Yes I realise I don't need to watch those shows. The only exception to this was the Simon Reeve 's programme he did.

Omg Simon Reeve's Cornwall annoyed me. Those taco boys were not what they seemed...
MakeUsACuppa · 15/01/2022 08:33

Another one coming to say how much Jeremy Clarkson has done for farming. My Dad was a farmer so lots of it ring true, loved the 'sheeping' episode. I just wish he was around to have seen it Sad

Adam from Countryfile is a sanctimonious fool, my Dad couldn't stand him. Compare him to Kaleb and it's night and day!

Tilltheend99 · 15/01/2022 08:34

There are lots of shows I think I would want to watch until I realise Michael Portillo is in them.

Tilltheend99 · 15/01/2022 08:41

@elbea

I find much more annoying celebrities like Ed Sheeran who have announced they are going to buy every piece of farmland they can to rewild, often vastly outbidding local farmers.

Not only are they putting local farmers out of business, they are threatening the food security of the country.

Plenty of farmers are able to successfully re-wild alongside raising livestock and growing vegetables.

However, you are right to identify that Ed Sheeran is a bellend. It’s unlikely he is doing any re-wilding and is probably just building more swimming pools without planning permission or whatever it is he gets up to.

Oblomov22 · 15/01/2022 08:45

Adam Henson has 112 employees? Who knew?

StevieNicksscarf · 15/01/2022 08:45

My guilty pleasure is bit of Portillo Grin.

Agree with pps re programmes about other celebrities poncing about both here and abroad. Always strikes me as grossly unfair that Philip Schofield or Martin Clunes gets an all expenses luxury holiday when they could bloody afford to do it themselves. There must be hundreds of people who would kill for those trips and are never going to be in a position to afford them. I'd rather watch them.

Oh and couldn't agree more about the Taco Boys (yeah course they didn't have anywhere to live Hmm)....

Weatherman Walking is well worth a watch. Welsh weatherman Derek Brockway walks around Wales. Lovely man.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 15/01/2022 09:12

Two words -Joanna Lumley...(I know, national treasure blah blah, but has that woman been on a jolly not paid for by a tv station?)
But, we secretly like a bit of Portillo too.

Quiettiger · 15/01/2022 09:13

This will properly out me to people who know me, but Derek Brockway (who is genuinely nice) got chased up our field by our 3 very naughty miniature Shetland ponies when he was filming Weatherman walking. He actually made a point of saying to keep your dogs on leads if you used our footpaths because the ponies could be quite naughty and didn't like dogs!
LubaLuca · 15/01/2022 09:20

Clarkson's Farm was great, and although I'd previously disliked him, I was really won over by his honesty and 'warts and all' portrayal of farming. I live in a farming community, and I've heard nothing but praise for the programme.

Simon Reeves provides a nice antidote to the 'Fern Britton in a breton top and scarf' type shows.

LubaLuca · 15/01/2022 09:22

Oh yes, I agree about Derek the Weather too. He seems genuinely lovely.

LubaLuca · 15/01/2022 09:26

'Winter Walks' on BBC4 is one of my favourite programmes, actually. So quiet and gentle (other than rent-a-gob Kate Bottley's episode Hmm), and really interesting.

dottiedodah · 15/01/2022 09:43

I really liked Joanna Lumleys trips .She has a knack of making you feel involved somehow ! Remember her trip where they had been travelling for 22 hours or something, and she lost it when talking to the Camera Crew.Apologised profusely of course . Micheal Portillo is also very relaxed and gentle in his train trips .Love trains (Not a regular commuter obv!) and some of his journeys around London / SE really interesting

squashyhat · 15/01/2022 09:43

It can work to local peoples advantage though. A planning committee was apparently willing to let yet another chunk of countryside be swallowed up by a housing development until Rag n Bone Man got annoyed because it would spoil the view from his garden. Not saying Wealden District Council are on the take or anything but planning was refused. Result!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/01/2022 09:59

Waiting to see if anyone mentions a certain rockstar!

I was thinkg of Alex James out of Blur and his Cheesemaking Farm.......

!

SpiderinaWingMirror · 15/01/2022 10:09

Indeed.
I think they should have to say "this is my new life in the country. I earn 3000 a year from sheep, chicken and veg. Luckily I get xxxxxx from fucking Channel 4"

Huntswomanonthemove · 15/01/2022 10:15

I couldn’t stand Clarkson but I’m a convert. His show was excellent and yes every farmer I’ve spoken to had nothing but praise for the show.

Goldenbear · 15/01/2022 10:17

I don't think Spring Watch or the other seasonal watches are about 'farming' are they? Considering the location they may have references to it but I always get the impression they are a celebrating the wildlife.

The Sarah Beeny series is hilarious, my teenage son came in to the lounge when I was watching it and her same aged older boys were painting and making and I pointed this out to him- also would you like to live in that rural beauty spot with just his family for socialising withGrin

Goldenbear · 15/01/2022 10:19

The answering a resounding, 'no' and 'can I have a top up on my Christmas money for vinyl shopping on Saturday!'(very much a town mouse) How does she get her boys to go on TV and relish this lifestyle!

roarfeckingroarr · 15/01/2022 10:22

Clarkson's farm was one of the best bits of tv I've ever watched. It's truly brilliant.

anon12345anon · 15/01/2022 10:23

@daimbarsatemydogsbone

YANBU they can fuck off
Grin Grin
AshLane · 15/01/2022 11:07

I too disliked Clarkson but actually found out loads about farming from his show. What a difficult, stressful and uncontrollable (weather) life. I had no idea. Makes me want to 'buy British' even more, but feel that Brexit imports from Australia ( meat not surfboards 😂) will damage farming further. God help us if for some reason imports stop. We'll starve!

I've not read anything about Ed Sheehan and land. Initially I'm very surprised that he would want to damage anything in his beloved Suffolk. He's very grounded, same friends, lives locally, sponsors local clubs and teams etc.

AshLane · 15/01/2022 11:13

@roarfeckingroarr Kaleb...what a role model for kids - learning real skills and using them effectively. I'm educated (supposedly) - he is a genius. So many skills, so much problem solving, maths, so much practical knowledge.
