to really hate the word 'Nurturing'?

I have this convulsive adolescent reaction of eye rolling, lip curling and nose wrinkling whenever I hear (or read) that word used in a sentence.

I do not 'Nurture' my children. How sad for them. I merely look after them and love them, but obviously am a failure because they never get 'Nurtured'.

hate it too. up there with 'me time'. Although I have used in nurtured in the context of SN - would prefer to say 'having their needs met' though.

edam · 26/12/2007 10:32

YANBU very irritating word. Like 'nourishing' in the context of skin cream. Or 'pampering'.

BOAK

lazawreath · 26/12/2007 10:44

I hate the word petite. That word really pisses me off.

I hate "contemporary"

and all wanky office speak, like actioned and ballpark figure

Katisha · 26/12/2007 11:27

I'm not keen on "nourishing" either...Twee.

"Nutrisse means nourish!"

Er, no it doesn't. You made it up. It doesn't mean anything!

Ah Coldtits, can i just say that i find myself nodding vigorously at nearly everything you say?
Rest are fabulous too.

May I add 'bonding'???????

lovecattlearelowing · 26/12/2007 16:47

God yes, 'prestigious' - I used to work for a bloke who'd actually talk like that - 'you know, Harrow has a lot of very prestigious properties' when he was moving house - bleee!

Please may I add my own pet hate when used in the context of children's behaviour - 'inappropriate'?

wessexgirl · 26/12/2007 16:49

Oooh, 'inappropriate' is one of those words I can only say in an OTT fake American accent.

And 'prestigious' is pure wankspeak.

apartments are either 'prestigous' or 'executive' which drives me up the wall. what the bloody hell does it MEAN?

HappyChristmasWalrusIsOver · 26/12/2007 17:45

Bijou

Why not just say "snmall, poxy and overpriced"

HappyChristmasWalrusIsOver · 26/12/2007 17:47

Oh yes, executive homes

Do you have to prove your executive status before you move your stuff in?

HappyChristmasWalrusIsOver · 26/12/2007 17:48

and this property is in need of updating

No, this property is a ramshackled old shithole last decorated when the tremolos were number 1

Heathcliffscathy · 26/12/2007 17:51

inappropriate is fab for telling someone off but not wishing to seem to be....terrible word.

calls supernanny to mind. except as i remember she can't really pronounce it, oh sorry, that's that other chestnut: unacceptable or unasseptable as she would have it.

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 26/12/2007 17:53

ooooohbn yes bijou

executive is really just saying to the 'young professional' (barf) don't worry, no riff-raff here

expatinscotland · 26/12/2007 18:01

I'm with cold, yurt and cod as usual.

Nurturing supportive my fecking arse!

Right up there with, 'He's a high-needs person'.

In other words, he's a fecking PITA.

NKF · 26/12/2007 18:03

I hate the word "inappropriate." Totally weaselly.

Nurturing I didn't mind but now you mention it...

I dislike the word "parenting".

slng · 26/12/2007 18:06

Does anyone hate "creative"? Euphemism for woolliness and muddled-headedness (is there such a word?) sometimes... And in early years education it means MESSY. Not all the time, obviously, because some people really are creative...

NKF · 26/12/2007 18:27

I only dislike the word "creative" when it's used as a concolation prize for not being clever. As in "my child isn't very academic. I think he'd be happier in a more creative school."

youcheaplousyharpsichord · 26/12/2007 18:33

lol at this thread.
my "high needs" friend (i.e. total PITA) always accuses me of being "unsupportive" whenever I do something he doesn't want me to do
leading me to think, how unsupportive would it be to smack him in the chops?
