to really hate the word 'Nurturing'?

coldtits · 26/12/2007 09:42

I have this convulsive adolescent reaction of eye rolling, lip curling and nose wrinkling whenever I hear (or read) that word used in a sentence.

I do not 'Nurture' my children. How sad for them. I merely look after them and love them, but obviously am a failure because they never get 'Nurtured'.

The number of dates I went on with men who claimed they were 'high needs'.

Mentally, I'd be crossing out their names on my list and replacing their number on my phone with 'Dicksmack'.

lazawreath · 26/12/2007 18:36

Don't know if anyones said it yet but hwne people describe themselves as 'bubbly' or say they have a 'bubbly personality' it just means irritating

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 26/12/2007 18:39

and 'eclectic'

used far too much

bonding/nuturing/nourishing - all wanky

as is CARING
I'm a caring person

whatever

wessexgirl · 26/12/2007 18:42

Ha ha, 'bubbly' , yes, avoid at all costs. Also 'high maintenance' to mean selfish/materialistic.

Altogether too many people describing themselves as 'passionate' about things like cold storage and taxes and other boring stuff.

NineUnlovelyTinselDecorations · 26/12/2007 18:43

Can we add Community too please? Why don't you just come out and say POOR PEOPLE like you want to? So patronising.

cheapslutonjunk · 26/12/2007 18:43

People who say they are "madcap" or "crazy" (often in round robin Christmas letters, detailing last-minute trips to Prague made using Tesco vouchers (madcap, yet thrifty, what a winning combination) make me want to rip limbs off. Not mine.

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 26/12/2007 18:46

(not caring when it applies to people who are ACTUALLY caring for someone, of course)

oh yes, madcap, crazy, zany 'I'm mad me'

usually v.dull

NKF · 26/12/2007 18:47

People who describe themselves as "spiritual" as in "not religious but spiritual."

cheapslutonjunk · 26/12/2007 18:49

[cares about people, mainly MrsJC, passionately, in a madcap fashion]

cheapslutonjunk · 26/12/2007 18:49

NKF, they usually say "deeply spiritual". I'm shallow enough to snigger at this.

wessexgirl · 26/12/2007 18:50

Ugh, yes, NKF, as in 'I'm a Pisces so I'm a deeply spiritual person'....

Lol at cheapslutonjunk (which I was reading as cheaps luton junk for some reason till just now ).

NKF · 26/12/2007 18:51

I thought only babies were ever described as "high needs."

southeastastra · 26/12/2007 19:17

lol at high needs

i don't like 'meal' or 'hyperbole' i asked my dp when i first met him 'what is a hyperbowl'

NKF · 26/12/2007 19:19

What's wrong with the word "meal"? That said, I can't stand the word "refreshments" paticularly when it's preceded by "light".

southeastastra · 26/12/2007 19:22

ew meal sounds horrible. refresments isn't bad as it's like refreshers (though they weren't much to write home about)

HappyChristmasWalrusIsOver · 26/12/2007 19:25

I also hate the term "wholefood" It's poncetastic

In fact, I think I hate hlf of the words in the English dictionary, (not swear words - they can stay )

NKF · 26/12/2007 19:28

I hate the overuse of the word "traditional". In front of "fish and chips" or "Christmas dinner". As if there was an experimental version.
And the word "fayre." So top hate would be "traditional Christmas fayre."

moondog · 26/12/2007 22:16

Fantastic

May I add..... maverick?

One of my colleagues applies this to herself with not an iota of irony.

NowTheHollyBearsABero · 26/12/2007 22:22

I detest 'meal' too, and have always been suspicious of 'bonding'. And of the inflationary use of 'self-esteem'.

moondog · 26/12/2007 22:23

It restores my faith to know there are folk who feel the same as i do.
