EXCLUSIVE

"Number 10 held two boozy parties the night before the Queen mourned Prince Philip alone.

Staff drank and at points danced until the early hours of the night of April 16.

Hours later, the Queen went to a socially-distanced funeral for Philip.

We have spoken to eyewitnesses. At a leaving do for a No10 photographer it’s alleged:

🥂Staff partied in the basement of No10, to music DJd by a special adviser.

🥂One broke Wilf Johnson’s swing in the No10 garden.

🥂Another was sent to the Co-op with a suitcase to buy booze.

Another event held to mark the departure of James Slack, Mr Johnson’s chief spinner, saw:

🍻 Staff gathered for a speech from Slack, with others dialling in via Zoom.

🍻Booze drunk and attendees spilling into the garden.

🍻Chatting and drinking into the early hours.

At the time Britain was in Step 2 of lockdown easing - which banned indoor gatherings and imposed the rule of six outside.

But the celebrations in No10 meant around 30 people were gathered for what a source declares were definitely parties.

Can No10 claim they were work events?

This was the scene in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle the next day.

Prince Philip’s funeral was restricted to 30 people, and the PM declined to attend, to make more space for family.

The Queen did not participate in the service. "

@Clavinova

Are you now of the opinion that it was wrong for our elected representatives to have parties during lockdown?

Has Sue Gray said whether our elected representatives have held parties during lockdown? I defer to Sue Gray.

Boris admitted it.

He admits it was a wrong decision.

We don't need Sue Gray to say they had parties. We have the evidence and admittance from the PM himself.

The same way I don't need Sue Gray to confirm to me the sky is blue.

Toblerone20 · 14/01/2022 19:06

He didn’t make the law he was potentially breaking….oh, that’s OK then 🤣

BashStreetKid · 14/01/2022 19:07

@JaniieJones

'Boris admitted he attended a party then returned to work 25 minutes later. His words.'

They weren't 'his words'. He said he went outside for 25mins to thank his staff.

Not my definition of going to a party.

So if I go to my neighbours party and stay for 25 minutes thanking some of the participants for, well, anything, I haven't been to the party?

You have a truly novel way of interpreting the English language. Why did he feel the need to apologise so humbly if he didn't think he'd been to the party?

Roussette · 14/01/2022 19:07

Johnson always runs rings round the sneering, jeering opposition) he said he went outside for 25mins and believed it to be a work event (bit like Starmer with his beer)

So the culture of being able to have 13 parties is irrelevant is it?

The fish rots from the head

'While I rewatch the Prime Minister on Wednesday, will you rewatch what Oliver Dowden said at the Downing Street briefing on the 20th Mary 2020. Then we could both report back what was said?'

Yes he said you could meet one person outdoors.

Different for colleagues and work places, didn't you realise? I mean the nhs would've be stuffed for starters if you could only work with one other person!Think they needed to be a bit clearer with their messages perhaps for some people..

Roussette · 14/01/2022 19:08

Let's blame the NHS... rightio...

Since you do not know what a party is

Quite clearly a party here - they have balloons;

'Why did he feel the need to apologise so humbly if he didn't think he'd been to the party?'

Because the media has whipped some of you up with this constant 'party' rage. It was an error even if colleagues (like starmer) could drink together. He had to say sorry to calm the situation.

'Let's blame the NHS... rightio...'

What?! No, you miss my point I'm trying to explain that Dowden's 'only meet one other' did not refer to the workplace Confused.

Goodness I must have missed the bit where Oliver Dowden said that one could meet as many work colleagues as one liked outside for cheese and wine. Can you point me to where that was said?
Blossomtoes · 14/01/2022 19:15

He had to say sorry to calm the situation

Of course he did. It hasn’t worked though, so you can kind of see why he’s always been so reluctant to do it. .

@Clavinova Well done. You are making good progress.

If I invite 100 people around to my garden, put on food for them and suggest they bring their own drink are we having a party?

When comparing the photograph of the Queen at Prince Philip's funeral, with the behaviour of the Conservative Party and its lying disrespectful leader, Boris and many other Tory MP's/staff have to go.

Deplorable that we have someone leading our country who is so morally corrupt and lacking in any integrity.

And Mr Johnson quite clearly said on Wednesday this week at PMQs that he had spent 25 minutes in the Downing Street Garden on 20th May 2020 with 25 other people.

Sowhatifiam · 14/01/2022 19:20

Don't you think there are other things to worry about

Leaders have to be exemplary. The Queen and her family sat socially distanced in church for a family funeral. That poor woman, like thousands others in mourning during lockdown, did the right thing because of a clear understanding of the seriousness of the situation and a requirement that they lead by example. The whole thing was an absolute masterpiece in social distancing and something as a country we can be very proud of with the whole world watching us at that moment.

Why on Earth would you support a man in office who has lied, cheated and lied some more whilst the rest of us endured long lockdowns because we believed that was the right thing to do? It is not the Queen we are all angry about (although that is bad enough in itself); it is everything these people and their actions represent. They have taken the piss out of the Queen and all of us with these actions. Simply put, they don’t care what lockdown meant for any of us, have no empathy with the sacrifices that were made (because they didn’t make them) and have the audacity to do that to the head of state, a 90 odd year old woman who has worked tirelessly for this country (and yes, I know all, about privilege etc etc, I am no Royalist but I see the bigger picture).

I fully accept that the Government wouldn’t have had the strict lockdown the rest of us had from their leadership position with more than just covid to worry about. But having parties goes way beyond what might have been acceptable social contact and laughs in all our faces. Boris is the leader. He is accountable for his behaviour and that of his staff. He needs to step down.

The world's largest squirrel is a red and white flying squirrel, weighed 9.5pounds and was nearly 4 foot long.

Goodness, well he wasn't referring to work was he. This was social guidance y'see, not work related.

CorrBlimeyGG · 14/01/2022 19:24

Just watching Andrew Bridgen, Tory MP and formerly a great Johnson supporter. He thinks Johnson should resign, and suggested there are still more revelations to come.

Is it a surprise party? I invited 60 people for dh's 40th birthday - he didn't even know he was having a party. Grin

@JaniieJones Was it social guidance for events like me inviting my neighbours over for drinks and nibbles in the evening in my garden?
TheSixthSickSheik · 14/01/2022 19:31

You can do as much convoluted mental gymnastics as you like to try to fit what Boris did within the rules, or deflect it, or weirdly try to justify it by saying someone else did the same thing, or say what a great guy he is because he made a half-arsed apology. One thing is certain. He’s toast.

Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. But the idea that the Conservative backbenchers, many of whom have slender majorities, will go into the next election being led by this massive liability is pretty inconceivable.

@Clavinova no surprise for any of them. I take it that since you invited 60 people and it was a party, then inviting 100 would mean that mine was also. Thank you for clarifying this for me.
See you really can recognise a party without having someone else tell you what one is.
