EXCLUSIVE

"Number 10 held two boozy parties the night before the Queen mourned Prince Philip alone.

Staff drank and at points danced until the early hours of the night of April 16.

Hours later, the Queen went to a socially-distanced funeral for Philip.

We have spoken to eyewitnesses. At a leaving do for a No10 photographer it’s alleged:

🥂Staff partied in the basement of No10, to music DJd by a special adviser.

🥂One broke Wilf Johnson’s swing in the No10 garden.

🥂Another was sent to the Co-op with a suitcase to buy booze.

Another event held to mark the departure of James Slack, Mr Johnson’s chief spinner, saw:

🍻 Staff gathered for a speech from Slack, with others dialling in via Zoom.

🍻Booze drunk and attendees spilling into the garden.

🍻Chatting and drinking into the early hours.

At the time Britain was in Step 2 of lockdown easing - which banned indoor gatherings and imposed the rule of six outside.

But the celebrations in No10 meant around 30 people were gathered for what a source declares were definitely parties.

Can No10 claim they were work events?

This was the scene in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle the next day.

Prince Philip’s funeral was restricted to 30 people, and the PM declined to attend, to make more space for family.

The Queen did not participate in the service. "

@TheSixthSickSheik

You can do as much convoluted mental gymnastics as you like to try to fit what Boris did within the rules, or deflect it, or weirdly try to justify it by saying someone else did the same thing, or say what a great guy he is because he made a half-arsed apology. One thing is certain. He’s toast.

Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow. But the idea that the Conservative backbenchers, many of whom have slender majorities, will go into the next election being led by this massive liability is pretty inconceivable.

The odd thing is the more times those who deny that the party on 20th May 2020 in Downing Street was a party and was breaking the law, the more times we post about it, and the more times everyone who visits the active page on mumsnet is reminded about Johnson's law breaking, whether they are interested in the parties or not. Clav and Jonsey are doing a wonderful job of keeping this scandal in the eye of mumsnet users.

I feel upset about Wilf's swing. I know it is ridiculous because he is an incredibly privileged child.

But it's just an awful image a whole load of drunk men using and breaking something belonging to a toddler. These people assist in making decisions that affect us all.

no surprise for any of them

Didn't Number 10 say that Boris Johnson had not seen the email and didn't instruct anyone to send the email? He thought it was a work event. Can't see why he would resign over that.

@Clavinova So you are saying now that Boris thought it was a work event, but actually it was a party, but he didn't know it was a party?
Clavinova · 14/01/2022 19:41

Says it all

Was it her first offence? She had a bouncy castle.

I think that's pretty much what he said, but I'm sure Sue Gray will enlighten us all with the finer details.

@Clavinova Good we are in agreement then that Boris attended a party on 20th May 2020 in the garden of Downing Street, which would have broken the law as it was at the time.

You don’t believe in accountability then? It took place in his house and garden.

No, I think you said it was actually a party - he talked about optics and not knowing it was a party.

Blossomtoes

I thought up to 200 people worked there. He has use of the flat above Number 11 and use of the garden - he wouldn't be involved in the day to day running of the house or the staff.

Roussette · 14/01/2022 20:08

Was it her first offence? She had a bouncy castle

Was it the bloke who was swinging in the garden and broke it his first offence?

So much for a 'work event'!

Did he know it was a party? First time I've heard a 'work event' labelled within an email with 'bring your own booze' lol

he wouldn't be involved in the day to day running of the house or the staff

hahahaha... don't you think, in the strictest lockdown ever experienced by anyone, they would've run it past him because it was in his garden?

And, if it was working, why was Carrie there glugging gin

Onthedowns · 14/01/2022 20:09

I don't quite get the reliance on Sue Grey. She is not independent she won't be making any recommendations just a report

Sound familiar - priti Patel was found to have broken ministerial code - it's ok as you were

Why does anyone think this 'report' will be any different

If Boris wants any respect he needs to resign.

I hope people remember at the local elections i definately will with our local safe smug tory

Roussette · 14/01/2022 20:14

@Onthedowns

Ditto ditto ditto

I have written the worst tory MP ever in my safe seat. Polite but to the point, if you want to see it let me know

Agree on the report. Her ultimate boss is Johnson. We can expect little

@Clavinova Sorry, I must have misunderstood you. I posted a question "So you are saying now that Boris thought it was a work event, but actually it was a party, but he didn't know it was a party?"

And you replied

I think that's pretty much what he said

So I think you agree that Boris and I know it was a party.
Do you agree that it was a party that Boris attended on the 20th May 2020.

I rather think the people relying on Sue Grey are doing so because of the things you list...

@Sowhatifiam

Don't you think there are other things to worry about

Leaders have to be exemplary. The Queen and her family sat socially distanced in church for a family funeral. That poor woman, like thousands others in mourning during lockdown, did the right thing because of a clear understanding of the seriousness of the situation and a requirement that they lead by example. The whole thing was an absolute masterpiece in social distancing and something as a country we can be very proud of with the whole world watching us at that moment.

Why on Earth would you support a man in office who has lied, cheated and lied some more whilst the rest of us endured long lockdowns because we believed that was the right thing to do? It is not the Queen we are all angry about (although that is bad enough in itself); it is everything these people and their actions represent. They have taken the piss out of the Queen and all of us with these actions. Simply put, they don’t care what lockdown meant for any of us, have no empathy with the sacrifices that were made (because they didn’t make them) and have the audacity to do that to the head of state, a 90 odd year old woman who has worked tirelessly for this country (and yes, I know all, about privilege etc etc, I am no Royalist but I see the bigger picture).

I fully accept that the Government wouldn’t have had the strict lockdown the rest of us had from their leadership position with more than just covid to worry about. But having parties goes way beyond what might have been acceptable social contact and laughs in all our faces. Boris is the leader. He is accountable for his behaviour and that of his staff. He needs to step down.

Very well said.

We already know that Boris Johnson was at Chequers when the swing was allegedly broken.

That you can see. You didn’t give Starmer the benefit of the doubt with the beer on the windowsill. .

Roussette · 14/01/2022 20:28

As I've said before, it's not about whether he was there or not. It's about the culture of partying that comes from the top

There are no photos of the 100 invited, 40 turned up so of course there is't a pic of Carrie glugging gin.

But the pics will come out if necessary, I'm sure

The garden photo is very clear.

You didn’t give Starmer the benefit of the doubt with the beer on the windowsill.

Nobody else was standing by the window.

@JaniieJones

'While I rewatch the Prime Minister on Wednesday, will you rewatch what Oliver Dowden said at the Downing Street briefing on the 20th Mary 2020. Then we could both report back what was said?'

Yes he said you could meet one person outdoors.

Different for colleagues and work places, didn't you realise? I mean the nhs would've be stuffed for starters if you could only work with one other person!Think they needed to be a bit clearer with their messages perhaps for some people..

Yes, but the NHS wasn't allowed to bugger off out to the hospital gardens in hoarded of 100 and have a merry old piss up.

Massive difference. You really can't see that?

I thought he went out into the Garden for 25mins? so would have seen the wine/beer/food/table etc but thought it was a work event?

...but a work event for people who were working long hours and needed to unwind?

...but i'm struggling to find all the pictures of NHS staff taking over the canteen, with wine/beer/food etc etc after days of 12 plus shifts?

Blossomtoes · 14/01/2022 20:41

Nobody else was standing by the window

You’ve never put a drink down and then gone back for it? It could have been anyone’s. Equally Mrs Johnson’s drink could have been beside at her feet.

Roussette · 14/01/2022 20:41

I think we're muddling events here (there's been so many)

there are NO photos of the 40 (100 invited) May 20th party

There are NO photos of the 2 parties before PP's funeral
