Aibu to suggest sanitary towels have got louder???

I don’t recall the sound with my older daughter who now uses other sanitary protection. But every time my younger daughter moves all I can hear is the plasticy sound!!

Are they louder now? Made differently perhaps?

She not long began to menstruate and isn’t ready to use tampons/cup, so I don’t want to rush her into using them but I’m sure she will get there eventually. Neither do I want to embarrass her but if I can hear it, others can! So I want to do/say something but what?

Are different brands better?

Does she know to take the backing off? 13 year old me rustled too Grin

Rno3gfr · 14/01/2022 10:38

Always Infinity are great. They don’t have any ‘plasticy’ bits in them and are very breathable. More expensive but they’re the best thing I’ve ever bought. More comfortable than underwear half the time.

lanthanum · 14/01/2022 10:39

Reusable pads are a useful halfway house between disposables and period pants - easier to change if you have heavy flow (or mix and match and use a disposable for the morning). DD is pleased with hers - I went for those rather than period pants initially because her hips hadn't yet widened, so I anticipated her growing out of the pants fairly quickly!

Mummyoflittledragon · 14/01/2022 10:40

The heavy modi bodi take a good amount of blood. They have leaked a tiny amount on the inside leg but really negligible.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 14/01/2022 10:47

I've noticed this too and yes I do take the backing off. I wear Bodyform most of the time but have to use the Always ultra night ones as well as they are about the only ones that are absorbent enough to deal with flooding.

guardiansofthegalaxychocs · 14/01/2022 10:53

Reusable cloth ones are so much better. I used disposable nappies with my kids, so not doing for particularly environmental reasons (it's a nice bonus). They genuinely are more comfortable, don't give you thrush and don't make a noise!

GrannytoaUnicorn · 14/01/2022 10:55

Always ones never stick anymore either! Even on brand new underwear!

These are really good, they were my favourite before switching to period pants. I still get some for emergencies. The only annoyance was they were not available everywhere, I had to buy them in Boots.
Sedai · 14/01/2022 10:55

I've been using Lidl ones and they're great! No rustling, and cheap too. I don't like the Always ones, they always seem to irritate my skin a bit.

GrannytoaUnicorn · 14/01/2022 10:55

@DustyMaiden

Has she removed the adhesive cover?
What a ridiculously condescending question Hmm
GrannytoaUnicorn · 14/01/2022 10:57

@teaandtoastwithmarmite

I switched to reusable ones and have noticed my period is less painful as well
How can the type of sanitary pad on your knickers, effect the pains in your ovaries?!?! This has baffled me! ConfusedConfusedConfused
KStockHERO · 14/01/2022 10:59

They rustle and they stink.

I invested in some period boxers from Modi Bodi. They're expensive (£20-£25 per pair) but they are an absolute REVOLUTION.

So so so so comfortable. They feel very 'safe' (leak proof) because they sit snug to your body. They don't stink. They don't rustle. And they're better for the planet.

AMAZING.

Sparkai · 14/01/2022 11:01

Always sensitive don't rustle are less plasticity and don't have a scent applied. And they are loads cheaper

KStockHERO · 14/01/2022 11:02

@Flapjak

What do you do with cloth period pads / pants when you are out at work for 12 hours, carry the used one in your handbag for 12 hours ?
I have heavy periods but a 'heavy flow' pair of period boxers will easily last me 12 hours. I do carry a spare pair just in case. And dog poo bags to put my soiled pair in case I needed to change. But I've never needed to change.
CornishSeaSwim · 14/01/2022 11:04

@Flapjak the Wear Em Out pads are designed to be rinsed under cold water initially to prevent staining and then put in the washing machine. They also have a zipped bag that is designed to store them, two sides with wear me and wash me, so they can be stored in there and then put in the machine when you get home with a normal wash.

CornishSeaSwim · 14/01/2022 11:05

@Flapjak I should also say that they last longer than disposables, but I WFH mostly so understand it is not always as easy if you're out and about.

MrsToothyBitch · 14/01/2022 11:33

Sorry for a grim question, but how do the heavy duty pants stand up to really big clots?

TakeMe2Insanity · 14/01/2022 11:43

@MrsAntonioConte

Are period pants suitable for a heavy flow? I’m very keen!
They aren’t ideal if you have fibroids and gush/flood.

They don’t, the clot sits on the gusset as it does on a pad.
firstimemamma · 14/01/2022 11:45

I love my cheeky wipes period pants and would really recommend them.

Tothemoonandbackx · 14/01/2022 12:00

This is going to sound like a daft question, but of those who wear period pants, what exactly do they feel like?? I normally wear pads/liners, and when I feel myself having a bit of a 'bloop' I can then feel it for a while until I get the chance to change the pad/liner (obvious wet feeling) do the period pants feel like that at all???? I'd hate to wear them and feel like I'm walking around it wet knickers Blush

VelvetChairGirl · 14/01/2022 12:47

none of the own brand supermarket ones are sented

hedgehogger1 · 14/01/2022 13:46

My DD uses reusable fabric ones and period pants.

Whatwouldscullydo · 14/01/2022 13:50

Don't worry the same companies have the perfect solution. They brought out new improved ones at two or three times the price if the regular version Hmm

Create the problem.

I find they feel much drier, less sweaty, more comfortable than disposable pads, and a little better than cloth pads. They are very clever. That said, I wear a cup as well for the first two days.
