Neighbour's kid

claramaria · 13/01/2022 12:11

The neighbours a few doors down from us send their child to the same school that mine attend.
A few morning recently I've seen neighbour walking kid to school (she's in Year 1) eating a packet of crisps. Seriously. At 8.30am. Maybe that's all the kid gets in the way of "breakfast". Kid is overweight (as are parents) and it upsets me to see a young child walking to school eating a packet of crisps for breakfast.
I was brought up in a culture where children eat healthy, nourishing breakfast at home (or at before school club), not crisps in the street. AIBU to find this an upsetting sight?

At least they weren't driving to school

They must've been Walkers...

danni0509 · 13/01/2022 18:24

Only on Mumsnet can we go from a child being seen once eating a packet of crisps for breakfast to how much of a drain they'll be on the tax payer when they develop comorbidities from being obese when they are old.

🤣

at 8.30 Shock

Would they have been healthier if they were eaten at 1pm ?

Why not throw a banana at them?[/quote]
Oh don’t be worrying yourself, my kids have a good varied diet.

Grin You're not upset though, you're having a lovely old judge of the fat family down the road.

beethecrackon24995 · 13/01/2022 22:39

OP you sound like a real arse. Thank the lord I don't live next door to you. Find something else to occupy your hours.

Spudbitch · 13/01/2022 22:54

For all you know they could have been up since 5am practising swimming lengths of the pool for a swim club Nd this is the sna k to get them through till lunch or perhaps they have a low blood sugar problem and it stops them feeling dizzzy n sick or maybe they have an eating disorder or maybe that's all thy have time for whatever it is it is not your business so stop judging and mind your own business (unless you have seen abuse of course then u don't mind your own)

Yeah I'd judge

notamilf · 13/01/2022 23:22

You should definitely snoop further into this awful woman's life, I bet she even feeds that poor kid McDonalds on the odd occasion. I'm so sorry you've had to witness this harrowing 8.30am crisp eating incident (and to make it worse the kid and mother were both 'overweight') please don't turn a blind eye, you must suggest a more suitable snack to this woman before it escalates to harder snacks such as chocolate or trigger warning haribo. I'm sure she will appreciate being educated on her terrible parenting skills and will be so glad you've got such a sharp eye to notice what she is doing every morning. Maybe take some emergency quinoa and cucumber sticks in your pocket to demonstrate a suitable 8.30am snack. Keep up the good work and stay vigilant for other scumbag mothers like this!

Sportslady44 · 13/01/2022 23:40

See it all the time we livenear a school and a shop.

They can't be bothered to eat or parents can't be bothered to organise anything so they eT crap on the way to school. Agree its horrible to see.

Sportslady44 · 13/01/2022 23:44

@Xmassprout

Would you rather the kid went hungry?

Don't get me wrong, I can kind of see where you're coming from. But you just see a tiny snapshot and have no idea what goes on in their lives

It's probably not a tiny snapshot though the chilli probably has more crap when they get in from school.

Laziness and junk food is increasing all the time.

Bananarama21 · 13/01/2022 23:50

Wind your neck in.

Conspiracyornotr · 13/01/2022 23:58

Jeeze people need to grow up getting upset over a packet of crisps and people just jump thinking it's a child with disabilities it's disgusting!!!

nalabae · 14/01/2022 01:37

Gross lazy parent

Thethreecs · 14/01/2022 02:17

Depends on which crisps they were. If they were store own brand then she was definitely being unreasonable, now if King or Tayto that's OK as they're delicious.

wedonttalkaboutmyposts · 14/01/2022 03:34

We used to start our packed lunch on the way to school. Maybe they already had breakfast?

Justilou1 · 14/01/2022 03:36

While technically it’s none of your beeswax, you could have a wee chat to the school if they have a healthy eating agenda.

SquarePeggyLeggy · 14/01/2022 04:22

My children take a packed lunch. I give them a treat every day. Sometimes that treat is a small bag of crisps or a biscuit. My son can’t help himself, and often eats the treat while waiting for the bus
before 8am. Someone walking past would experience this exactly as you did. It is a tiny part of his whole day.

Here is today’s menu:
Eggs on toast, glass of milk.
Small bag of crisps.
Thermos of chickpea, pumpkin and spinach curry with rice.
Carrot, celery, apple and bell pepper sticks
Home made blueberry muffin.

Tonight we’re having beef and vegetable pasta and watermelon.

Just to add a different angle. Yes it’s possible they eat terribly. It’s also possible they otherwise eat well, or have something else going on. On particularly rough days I have toast for dinner myself. Sometimes some foods are better than no food and there are many reasons this can happen.
I once saw a mother share a coke with her baby, she put it into the bottle. That’s different to briefly seeing a walking child eating crisps, I feel.

Ffsmakeitstop · 14/01/2022 05:29

When my ds1 wouldn't eat at 3 yr old I took him to a nutritionist and told them that all he would eat were boiled eggs and a few crisps. They said that was ok as it was at least getting some food in. He lost quite a lot of weight but eventually started eating properly and was fine. So you never know what's going on.

Get a hobby please

notyouagainn · 14/01/2022 05:47

None of your business and you have no idea what that child's diet is.
