To think I can eat this and lose weight?

bendywendygivemeablast · 11/01/2022 20:58

Struggling to lose half a stone🙄

I do a spin class every day for 30 mins, this is what I ate today and kind of typical for me:

Breakfast
1 slice low carb bread with peanut butter
2 black coffees

Snacks:
1 Maryland cookie
2segments of chocolate Orange

Dinner:
Salmon fillet
Jacket potato with cheese
Roasted broccoli and cauliflower with grated parmesan

AIBU to think even with the two naughty slip ups I should still be able to lose weight given that I exercise every single day?!
@sparklesocks the op is on about Terry's chocolate orange segments not orange fruit segments. Would be better off with fruit to boost vitamins and reduce the need to snack.
Or it would be even better if Terrys put vitamins in the chocolate orange and made it a healthier snack! Wink

You're not eating enough in the morning and day, and too much at night, it's not balanced. Try looking at people like Courtney black work out some stuff. Do some research. Also, chose one kinda of snack, you're having two snacks, where's the lunch? You are missing out on viral nutrition at this time

Motherdare · 11/01/2022 23:16

You can eat literally anything and lose weight so long as you have a calorie deficit.

AngelinaFibres · 11/01/2022 23:25

I seem to remember reading that if you exercise before eating anything in the morning you will burn off far more fat than if you eat and then exercise. It's because exercise on an empty stomach makes you body burn its own fat to create fuel. If you have eaten your body will use that instead. You should also wait 15 minutes after exercise before having breakfast. If you have a job and have to get children to school that may be impossible until the weekend.

acatcalledjohn · 11/01/2022 23:27

Why would you starve yourself like that?

Don't ever follow MFP's calorie goal. Use a TDEE calculator and set a low rate of loss. It's easier to manage a small deficit, especially if you haven't got much to lose.

For me my 1800 cal target is versus my roughly 2000 cal burn on a normal day. So I have set MFP to 1800 and a 0.5lb/week weight loss goal. The pic shows my MFP numbers vs my actual Garmin data.

It’s so achievable if you don't starve yourself.

Also: is 7lbs really worth it? Because a goal weight is one thing, but reality another. Sometimes we get so fixated by reaching a certain number on the scales that we lose sight of looking good and a particular pair of jeans or a dress going from snug to perfect just because perhaps your body composition has changed slightly.

A cookie and chocolate and you want to lose weight? Eat fruit for snack and small portions of everything that you eat throughout the day. That's how you train your stomach to demand less.

madisonbridges · 11/01/2022 23:43

If you eat just a Mars Bar, a Marathon and a packet of crisps a day, you'll lose weight. Not a great diet but you will lose, regardless of when or if you exercise. Calorie deficit.

5128gap · 12/01/2022 07:40

Its not competitive under eating to acknowledge the truth, which is that to maintain a low end BMI requires surprisingly few calories, and much less food than many people consider 'normal'. Especially if you are not tall, and if you are older. Unless you are 'active' which is not an exercise session a day, but a day full of activity; physical work, walking all day etc. its generally a choice between being very slim and eating minimally; or eating more and accepting the sxtra half stone. To be honest, half a stone makes very little difference to your appearance, it's typically not even a dress size, so if you are a healthy weight it may not be worth the effort. Especially baring in mind that once lost you will need to stick to a fairly structured diet long term if you want to keep it off.

@Merryoldgoat

Thank god its not just me Grin

AlternativePerspective · 12/01/2022 07:51

Or even prunes. They taste like sweets but I'm much better for you and your gut. Tesco do packs of soft prunes which are delicious. no, no they really don’t. They do however give you the shits which should help nicely towards that weight loss goal. Grin

MissNothing1991 · 12/01/2022 07:55

Far too few calories. Your body will think there is no food source and enter starvation mode, simply storing any fat you take in. Work out your basal metabolic rate and then work out a sustainable deficiet to lose weight. Weight loss is 80% diet, 20% exercise

MrsWooster · 12/01/2022 08:13

This thread is terrifying. The sheer intensity of focus on restriction, as if it is a given that no-one or no woman at least can just be ok and enjoy a responsive, mixed diet.
I’m going to hide the thread because I know the reactions and can’t be bothered to defend my visceral horror at the assumptions about how our live ‘should’ be.

Whereisthechicken · 12/01/2022 08:14

I've just lost three stone in 14 weeks on a keto diet and was eating more than that. I was having 5 meals a day. For breakfast I would have 2 poached egg whites with a protein shake. Snack was a protein bar. For lunch I would have chicken breast with a ton of green veg/green salad. Afternoon snack was another protein shake and then dinner was chicken or fish with a ton of green veg again. For pudding I would have raspberries, strawberries or melon. Restrictive yes but it worked. The key was I didn't allow any exceptions - I didn't eat a single treat (the fruit became my treats). If you cut out the chocolate and biscuits for lunch and replaced it with chicken and veg you'll obviously lose the weight quicker.

One small cookie and two small pieces of chocolate. It’s totally possible to lose weight and still eat those.
Pikaso · 12/01/2022 08:17

Prunes taste like sweets 😂😂😂 no they do not I’m afraid!

It’s like when people say “eat a handful of seeds instead of the packet of crisps that you really want”. A handful of seeds 😂😂 do I look like a fucking bird?!

Fatgalslim · 12/01/2022 08:22

I'm consistently losing between 2 and 3lbs per week and eat lots more than that, I also can't exercise much apart from walking. A couple of typical days for me are:

B: Coffee made with skimmed milk, porridge with skimmed milk and a banana
L: Chicken sandwich with lots of salad, salad cream. Greek fat free yogurt and berries
D: Hairy Dieters beef & ale casserole and home made mash potato (I use an egg instead of butter)
S: Hard boiled egg, sliced chicken breast

B: 2 poached eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, 1 slice of toast
L: Homemade BNS soup with a small bread roll. Fat free Greek yogurt and a banana
D: Chicken breast, roasted veg and a jacket potato with a small amount of butter
S: Cherry tomatoes, few almonds

RunningInTheWind · 12/01/2022 08:28

The best bit about this thread is that someone referred to the chocolate orange as fruit. I think we can all get on board with that.

Tal45 · 12/01/2022 08:34

I weigh 8 stone and couldn't live on that! It all sounds very unhealthy too, I'd be completely crashing by 4 o'clock. Replace the snacks with a proper lunch, 2 boiled eggs and salad with a banana/apple/orange for example. Stop putting cheese on everything though.

LouiseBelchersBunnyEars · 12/01/2022 08:45

I’ve never had a prune?!? What do they taste like?

I’ve had dates, which taste a bit like sweets to me, quite caramel-y, I used to have them instead of sweets actually when I did calorie counting. Might buy some today actually, the big medjool ones, yum.
(I fear I may have missed the point of this thread)

Jumpingintomenopause · 12/01/2022 09:09

I think you need to up your calorie intake and increase your exercise.
I do 4-5 gym classes a week plus a 10k walk. I eat a restricted diet 5/7 and allow moderate treats at the weekend. I don’t calorie count on special occasions or on holiday.

A typical days food:
B. High protein yogurt, low sugar granola and berries OR scrambled egg, spinach, wm toast with a little butter OR Protein smoothie.
S. Few nuts and almond milk latte.
L. Chicken salad OR spicy tomato and chicken soup OR mixed bean chilli with veg.
S. Homemade protein flapjack or fruit.
D. Steak and salad OR fish with vegetables OR roast chicken with sp mash and veg.

I find batch cooking lunches helps and I prep it the night before so either out the freezer or salad made in a container ready to go.

Prunes taste like vomit
Fatgalslim · 12/01/2022 09:33

@Pikaso, as per my post, I can't exercise much so walking only. I do at least 10,000 steps most days

gwenneh · 12/01/2022 09:48

It would be much easier to lose weight for the OP if she were coming from a place of overeating but as she has acknowledged in this thread that she has been eating this restricted amount for some time, changing her caloric intake (up or down) is probably not the best place to start.

The OP will also probably have a pretty good idea of what is a sustainable way to eat for her, and since she doesn't seem to be complaining about being hungry at any point in her posts, the caloric intake is probably working for her.

A 30-minute spin class daily is good, but again, cardio is easy for the body to adapt to and we quickly become very efficient at it, with our bodies expending the least amount of energy for the same results. The OP has narrowed the gap between her intake and expenditure as she's adapted to steady state exercise, so the easiest thing to do is simply change up for a more dynamic workout -- really simple, even within a 30 minute timeframe.

If the OP does this, she probably WILL find that she has a larger appetite, and then adjusting for more protein and a higher caloric intake is probably necessary. It's just not necessary if she's not actually hungry and none of her posts seem to imply that she is.

Butteryflakycrust83 · 12/01/2022 10:04

This isn't healthy at all. Not to mention that as soon as you go back to eating normally, which you will, the weight will go straight back on.

Honestly, your weight probably flucuates by half a stone during the day. Ive pooped bigger turds than that.
