To have eaten the prawns?

IamfromBarcelona · 11/01/2022 18:51

Purchased said prawns from Tesco on Saturday evening at around 7pm. The sealed packet was left in the bottom of the shopping bag in a cool kitchen until around 7am Sunday morning, when they went into the fridge.

Today I ate them all (cold) in a salad for dinner.
Tasted fine Smile

Do you think I need to be worried?

YABU- I’ll probably be fine.
YANBU- Prepare to be ill.

I bet they'll be fine. Most people on mn seem to have food poisoning almost anxiety.

WinterCarlisle · 11/01/2022 20:00

I haven’t eaten fish for years but pretty sure I’d have done this too

not place marking at all………

JurgensCakeBabyJesus · 11/01/2022 20:04

You'll be fine, I worked in the kitchens of a number of restaurants as a student both swanky independent places and big chains. Some of the things I've seen.... Yet people are regulars in these places and don't seem to die and there was only one place where I declined the offer of a staff meal

Starlightstarbright1 · 11/01/2022 20:06

You will.know in a few hours.. i wouldn't have waten them but would have been very annoyed with myself too.

Fingers crossed for you.

soughsigh · 11/01/2022 20:07

I probably wouldn't have chanced it and I am reasonably relaxed about best before dates. I ate cooked chicken yesterday that had been in the fridge since Friday 🙈

Shameless placemarking for updates 😂

What are the some of the things, if you don't mind sharing? I have food poisoning anxiety and need to be more relaxed about it!
Cheeseandlobster · 11/01/2022 20:18

Good luck op 🤞

Normski67 · 11/01/2022 20:20

Get your bog roll in the fridge OP. I once chanced some milk that I thought was probably ok after being left out. A few hours later it was like my arse had turned into a hose. I don’t take any chances now for the sake of a couple of quid.

TroysMammy · 11/01/2022 20:23

I had a prawn starter from a restaurant lunch menu. A few hours later when on the coach back home I could feel my temperature rising. When that happens I'm sick. The toilets were out of order and the journey was another hour. It was lucky I had a carrier bag on me that didn't have any holes in it and I sat with a cooling bag of sick on my lap for the rest of the journey. I'll never eat prawns out again.

EarringsandLipstick · 11/01/2022 20:28

If they were raw prawns, not a chance. However, as they were cooked, I reckon OP will be fine.

TheVolturi · 11/01/2022 20:31

You will probably be OK but fucking hell op what are you like!!

DamnUserName21 · 11/01/2022 20:32

I leave prawns out to defrost all day so I'd would have done the same.
As this was Sunday, you would have signs of food poisoning by now, surely....

WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps · 11/01/2022 20:34

I would have eaten them 🤷🏼‍♀️

spellingtest · 11/01/2022 20:35

Yikes. Good luck op. I hope everything stays where it should.

She only ate them today
sausagerole · 11/01/2022 20:37

I would have eaten them, but don't think I ever would again now I've read all these replies!

Following for an update, OP, hope you're ok Confused

Beachbreak2411 · 11/01/2022 20:41

Op I did similar.. left them for a few hours out of fridge.. put them in fridge today and put them in a salad.. on their best before date. Packet didn’t go puff and smell fine. Sure we’ll be fine. My house is freezing 😂

MrsWinters · 11/01/2022 20:42

You’re being very unreasonable not allowing us to set odds and place bets.
I’d pop a tenner on a vomit spree at 2am.

DamnUserName21 · 11/01/2022 20:44

@TheVolturi
Thanks for clarifying.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 11/01/2022 20:53

What would antihistamines do for food poisoning? Genuine question...I thought they were just for treating allergies?

Scombroid poisoning is essentially a huge allergic reaction when you aren't actually allergic to them. As they go off, they produce a huge amount of histamine.

The person who gave himself it through taking the prawns I'd decided not to risk as they'd been left on the side overnight went bright red, lips, face, tongue swelled up, fingers began blistering and he started wheezing and coughing. Treated with antihistamines and salbutamol (inhaler) and didn't have any reaction to shellfish/prawns when they ate some again at a later date (yes, I know, but some people really are stupid).

Beapoppy · 11/01/2022 20:54

My bet is you'll be OK but a bit risky! Good luck OP xx

Magnited · 11/01/2022 20:57

No, you are going to die. Eventually.

Pedalpushers · 11/01/2022 20:58

Yeesh, I wouldn't have. Seafood food poisoning can be far worse than meat and there are bacteria that cause shellfish food poisoning that can kill people. That said, the vast majority of improperly stored food will never make anyone ill.

LittleWilly · 11/01/2022 21:04

Don't see issue here? As long and the bag wasn't blown up or they smelt awful then they should be fine?

OneTimeThrowAway · 11/01/2022 21:10

I didn't know you got scromboid from prawns, thought it was a certain types of fish thing
