To have eaten the prawns?

Purchased said prawns from Tesco on Saturday evening at around 7pm. The sealed packet was left in the bottom of the shopping bag in a cool kitchen until around 7am Sunday morning, when they went into the fridge.

Today I ate them all (cold) in a salad for dinner.
Tasted fine Smile

Do you think I need to be worried?

YABU- I’ll probably be fine.
YANBU- Prepare to be ill.

Hopefully you'll be fine but you eat like everything in a prawn. Their insides and all.

BasketBlocks · 11/01/2022 19:14

I’d have binned them but you’ll probably be fine.

NYnewstart · 11/01/2022 19:18

It’s a waiting game now op 🤮

IamfromBarcelona · 11/01/2022 19:19

@KiloWhat

Fresh or frozen?
Cold and cooked from the refrigerated section.

I think I’ll do a bit of tidying round and laundry etc this evening just in case I am laid low tomorrow…

I've witnessed Scombroid Poisoning.

I take no chances with seafood.

If you've got antihistamines in the cupboard, I'd just make sure that they are near to hand.

KiloWhat · 11/01/2022 19:20

@IamfromBarcelona yes I would. That stringy bit in the middle is their gut and sometimes it's full of poo that's why it's brown

Ikona · 11/01/2022 19:23

I wouldn't have chanced it with seafood, only time will tell I suppose. 🤷‍♀️

Exhausteddog · 11/01/2022 19:25

I wouldn't have eaten them and (imo) not putting fresh refrigerated food in the fridge when unpacking shopping is more strange than, for example, eating leftovers that were cooked and left out overnight.
However once the deed is done I'm not sure there's a lot you can do about it and definitely not anything MN can do to assist (you'll probably just feel more anxious reading people's aghast reactions!Confused)

Daisydoesnt · 11/01/2022 19:27

OP i really hope you’re ok but you literally couldn’t pay me enough money to eat suspect seafood. And prawns that have been above 8 degrees for 12 hours?! Bonkers!

It’s a complete myth “if it smells ok it’s not off” - that’s just rubbish.

KiloWhat · 11/01/2022 19:28

Maybe drink loads of water now?

ofwarren · 11/01/2022 19:28

Not a chance I would have eaten them. That's crazy!
Good luck OP

Thanks, yes very wise! I just was wondering what my chances are. I shall update you tomorow.

As to why I didn’t put them away, I just didn’t see them at the bottom of the bag, I thought I’d put all the fridge things away, but they were hiding under some other things.

IF they smelt ok and IF I was going to eat them, I'd have heated them piping hot to hopefully kill off more bacteria! I would never have eaten them cold. Let us know how you get on.

hellywelly3 · 11/01/2022 19:36

I’ve never felt so I’ll as I did with food poisoning. It can be so much more than an upset tummy, it’s poisoning it can kill. It’s too late now but I would never risk it with something like prawns.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 11/01/2022 19:38

If it was my house my cats and dog would have been happy 🤣

saltandpepper234 · 11/01/2022 19:43

Bookmarking this to find out if the OP makes it through the night!

I had a housemate at uni who didn’t realise prawns sometimes came raw Hmm and defrosted and ate them like you would cooked ones. She said “I thought they were a strange colour”. Did not end well.

itwasntaparty · 11/01/2022 19:44

Urgh I'm pretty lax but prawns?!? 🤮

saltandpepper234 · 11/01/2022 19:45

I left a packet of burgers in my handbag for two days once, took them with me to Pilates and everything 😂

AnotherMansCause · 11/01/2022 19:45

I agree with the PP who said your body will probably choose violence OP. Seems a sensible precaution to have a tidy round now while you're still in charge of your bodily functions

What would antihistamines do for food poisoning? Genuine question...I thought they were just for treating allergies?
RoseRedRoseBlue · 11/01/2022 19:48

Good luck OP ❤️

And ate them?! 😲
givethatbabyaname · 11/01/2022 19:52

They were cooked, presumably on a cold tiled floor overnight with the heating off, looked fine, smelled fine. I think it’s okay.

Anyway, you’d have found out by now. Seafood poisoning doesn’t hang about.

Glittertwins · 11/01/2022 19:54

You'll find out pretty soon if they're going to make you ill. Usually hits within a couple of hours if it's going to happen.

Dutchesss · 11/01/2022 19:54

Sounds like something I would do. Grin
