To think that we live in a bitter, jealous, hypocritical society?

I don't usually think this, admittedly. But I was just misguided enough to watch BBC3's 'Most Annoying People of 2007' countdown and found myself falling into a pit of societal self-loathing.

Most of the 'annoying' lapses related to sex/drugs/alcohol excesses - which made me wonder if the vast majority of voters had NEVER done anything embarrassing in a sexy/druggy/pissed way. Surely not!

Amy Winehouse came out at number one, and one of the talking heads (obscure to say the least - I had heard of one) - said what she needs to do to 'redeem' herself is prove she has talent.

Ahem. I think she's done that.

Another said that what Britney should do to redeem herself is have a storming song success again.

Ahem. Not sort out her horribly messed-up life, children and family then?

Sorry, a long and pious rant, but ffs! This riled me up! Especially since all of the commentators came over as such horrible people themselves.

(I know you've all got the sense not to watch this shite. Fair play to you).

Merry Christmas, btw.

man I wish I had watched that program now!

Bauble99 · 23/12/2007 23:44

I watched some of this..

Nirpal Dhaliwal. What a tosser!

amytheearwaxbanisher · 23/12/2007 23:59

didnt watch it are they just picking on the weak people who need help rather then slagging like those you mentioned?

wessexgirl · 24/12/2007 00:02

Well, there were genuinely annoying people on the list- like Alec Baldwin tcha! But most of them were people having a fkn mare of a year. I found it mean-spirited, I guess.

I agree that it was mean-spirited. Especially the Britney stuff.

I switched off PDQ.

wessexgirl · 24/12/2007 00:07

You did the right thing, bauble . Dh and I were sort of not-really-watching doing computery stuff at the same time. But the meanness got under our skins somehow. Euch.

Should have stuck the carol CD on really.

I watched up to that funny bloke's 'Britney is a human' outburst. It was irritating me before then though...

sugarmatches · 24/12/2007 01:50

Dh said he thought the people being interviewed were the most annoying!
I was just amazed how sanctimonous they all were. One person was voted in just for breaking up with Kylie Minogue...??!!

Goodness knows why anyone watches tv.

Jetix/Cbeebies is the only channel ever on in my house, when the horrible thing is on.

Why does anyone watch it when forums such as Mumsnet are around. I cannot understand it. TV is a phenomenom for me????????

I can recommend redlightcenter.com for those of you who are restless as well.

Madness I say, madness
