To call in sick next week too?

user4533786 · 08/01/2022 22:52

I have been off work sick this week whilst waiting for PCR results due to having Covid symptoms.
My results took 4 days to come back and were negative. I phoned my manager to tell him my results to which he replied they took ages see you next week then.
I'm still not feeling 100% maybe I will be by Monday, My manager shows no care, I'm CEV so waiting for the results and coping with the symptoms has been hard not just physically but mentally too.
AIBU to phone in sick next week too? I just feel I need some time to prepare myself mentally to go back to my job Confused

Are you actually too ill to work?

If not, then of course you shouldn't phone in sick.

Elsielouise13 · 08/01/2022 22:56

If you are sick, call in sick. YABU if you are not sick and call in sick as much as if you are sick and go in. How can anyone on the internet tell you how you feel?

elelel · 08/01/2022 22:56

Why do you need to mentally prepare to go back to work?

Herestoyoucolinrobinson · 08/01/2022 22:57

Think you'd need a fit note but if you genuinely don't feel well enough to work then it shouldn't be a problem.

DDivaStar · 08/01/2022 22:57

Are you still ill ?

Why do you need a week to prepare to go back ?thats not normal......

Gazelda · 08/01/2022 22:57

Are you unwell at the moment?

If you are, then yes you should call in sick.

Crazycrazylady · 08/01/2022 22:59

Honestly you sound a bit precious.. who calls in sick bedside they want to 'mentally prepare' themselves.
No wonder your managers annoyed with you.

NewYearCalavicci · 08/01/2022 23:14

If you genuinely need to mentally prepare to be able to go back to work after only having a very short time off off then I would really recommend you look for a new job

if you just don't feel like going back into work and calling in sick people like you are the reason why so many companies are struggling through sickness and illness and fake cases of covid .

TidyDancer · 08/01/2022 23:16

You need to give a bit more info. Do you believe you will be unfit for work or do you just not want to go?

MolkosTeenageAngst · 08/01/2022 23:20

Your results were negative so I wouldn’t expect 0 “lthe manager to be showing lots of care in his response at that point, I understand if you are CEV waiting for results has been stressful but he probably isn’t recognising that and you can’t really expect him to be thinking like that. From his point of view the results say you haven’t got covid so that’s that.

If you are still unwell take more time off until you are better, whether that be one day or the whole week. To take the week off because you’re annoyed your manager hasn’t been caring enough is unreasonable though, he’s not your close friend or a family member and it’s not his place to be overly caring or concerned.

Josette77 · 08/01/2022 23:21

I don't really understand why you can't work?

AnneLovesGilbert · 08/01/2022 23:22

What reason would you give?

BooksAndGin · 08/01/2022 23:22

YABU, you've had a week off why do you need another week to mentally prepare yourself?
Hmm honestly people are loosing their jobs left, right and centre right now and you're taking the pee!

Redwinestillfine · 08/01/2022 23:24

If you're I'll you're I'll. Just because it'sot Covid doesn't mean it's not some other winter bug......

LordoftheDanceSaidHe · 08/01/2022 23:24

If you're still I'll then call in sick. If not then work.

TracyMosby · 08/01/2022 23:25

How long do you need to mentally prepare yourself to do your job?

MrsBungle · 08/01/2022 23:26

If you’re too ill come Monday then, of course, remain off until you’re well. Confused if you’re ok then you should return.

MadameMinimes · 08/01/2022 23:28

If you’re too ill to work, then call in sick. If not, go to work.

thefirstmrsrochester · 08/01/2022 23:29

If you are still ill, then don’t go back until you are well.

Building in a week long buffer to accommodate your mental prep for returning to work is a piss take. I mean, what are you planning to say when you take this additional week off?

ShaneTheThird · 08/01/2022 23:31

No one can tell you if you are well enough to go to work or not. But to echo pp it's not normal to need a week to mentally prepare to go back to work after a short mild illness of 4 days.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 08/01/2022 23:33

There are illnesses other than covid. If you're still sick, and can self-certify, stay home.

phishy · 08/01/2022 23:34

Don’t you have any lateral flow tests?

Order some online, I received a box within 24 hours.

You can’t keep using ‘waiting for PCR results’ as an excuse not to go in if you want to be professional and aren’t actually ill.

5foot5 · 08/01/2022 23:34

Sorry I don't know what CEV means so I don't know how to take that in to account in my response.

Saying you need to "mentally prepare" to go back to work makes me think, "Yeah everyone finds it hard to back after the Christmas break"

itwasntaparty · 08/01/2022 23:37

If you're sick you're sick, take it off, if you're not get back to work? Sounds flakey tbh.

Fastforwardtospring · 08/01/2022 23:38

If too ill then call in sick, if you are well enough to work I would go, what happens if you unfortunately do get covid, that will mean more time off on top of ‘time off mentally preparing yourself’.
