Does anyone go into Labour naturally anymore?

Ok tell me if aibu. But I am 31 so lots of friends and family having first babies, out of the ten the past three years only ONE has gone into Labour naturally. Is this normal or are healthcare providers too quick to induce?

I had a failed induction leading to a cascade of intervention including a emergency C-section where I haemorrhaged and then had an infection.

We were both in hospital over a week. I was only induced as I was overdue but my cervix was so unfavourable they couldn't even do a sweep so I perhaps am quite biased.

Yep all 3 of mine

Lifeisnteasy · 07/01/2022 22:10

@9nine

My youngest is nearly 5 so not that recent, but I’ve got 9 children and all 9 were spontaneous deliveries, midwives were always quite shocked that I’d never been induced. All were before due date, 5 a month early, 4 around a week early.
Is that you Yorkshire shepherdess Wink
olivehater · 07/01/2022 22:12

I did. Waters went at 38 weeks. Dramatic movie style. After being told that never happens.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 07/01/2022 22:16

I did twice, but one ended with emcs. The other ended with natural birth.

NotMeekNotObedient · 07/01/2022 22:16

Mine was natural at 39 weeks. However they were keen to induce. I said no and had monitoring instead. While they were monitoring/trying to find a doctor to sign me off to leave I became fully dilated.

Russell19 · 07/01/2022 22:17

I did at 38 weeks and first sign was my waters breaking

Tiredout123 · 07/01/2022 22:17

Yes 3 times. 40+5, 40+5 and 40+9

9nine · 07/01/2022 22:17

@Lifeisnteasy haha no, I’d not have a clue what to do on a farm! I didn’t realise her youngest was same age as mine till I just googled, my eldest is 2 yrs older than hers though.

Idontknowlondon · 07/01/2022 22:18

I actually don't know anyone who was induced! I had 2 spontaneous labours, full on bucket of water on the floor movie - style!

Lifeisnteasy · 07/01/2022 22:19

9 children!!! What’s your secret to staying mentally calm and capable?! Im trying to summon the courage to have a 2nd Grin would love a big family but think I’m too much of a worry worm!

sociallydistained · 07/01/2022 22:20

I think these tend to recommend or offer at least induction at the drop of a hat E.g large or small babies when growth scans are quite inaccurate and many woman accept this advice because of course you trust medical professionals. I went down the rabbit hole of research and looked at statistics and now I am totally against induction unless it's necessary but obviously something I would weigh up if recommended and decide if right but would happily refuse.

At this point im 37+1 and believe I'll go into natural labour whenever that might be. I'll keep you informed 😂

shouldistop · 07/01/2022 22:20

2 children, went into Labour both times naturally. 40+8 and 40+9

PurpleFlower1983 · 07/01/2022 22:21

I did twice, 38+1 and 39+2, waters broke both times.

shouldistop · 07/01/2022 22:21

Forgot to add I was 29 and 33

PurpleFlower1983 · 07/01/2022 22:22

First waters in bed, second in the car - my heated seats still don’t work Grin

DockOTheBay · 07/01/2022 22:24

This is not the experience of me or my friends.
8 babies in my NCT group- only 1 was an emergency early section, all the others went into spontaneous labour although some ended in c sections
I know a few people who had planned sections with their second babies - maybe around 25% of people I know. I don't know anyone who was induced.

BlowDryRat · 07/01/2022 22:25

I had an induction for DC1 bit went into labour naturally with DC2 at 41+5.

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 07/01/2022 22:26

I did with my second baby.

Bywayofanupdate · 07/01/2022 22:29

Yes, 3 times at 40+5, 41 and 40+1. Though I suspect my dates were wrong with the first two as they were huge

phoenixrosehere · 07/01/2022 22:36

With the second at 40+4

Coerced into an induction I didn’t want with the first, it failed amazingly, treated poorly, emcs,. Then reported it to be told it was unnecessary and not medically needed in the first place with no explanation as to why nor an apology. There was no way in he**I was going to allow them to suggest that again or dictate anything without evidence like they did with my first.

Briony123 · 07/01/2022 22:38

Going upright onto hindlegs massively compromised ease of childbirth for human women, as the pelvis narrowed. Before 20th century medical leaps, women and babies often died in childbirth. Nowadays it is, blessedly, rare in the western world. Medical intervention isn't a personal failing, we just haven't evolved well for the purposes of childbirth.

Charbead49 · 07/01/2022 22:42

I mean you need to look at actual statistics....

Devon1987 · 07/01/2022 22:52

Yep with both. But I did everything in the book to bring on labour; sex, tea, spice, walking, pineapple. I didn’t want an induction as all my friends had terrible outcomes from them (long painful labours, emc).

AnneElliott · 07/01/2022 23:25

Yes I went into Labour at 41 weeks.

U2HasTheEdge · 07/01/2022 23:31

I did.

39 weeks with my first, 38 weeks with my 2nd and with my 3rd, 4th and 5th I went into labour naturally at 40+10 on the date I was due to be induced.
