Does anyone go into Labour naturally anymore?

Ok tell me if aibu. But I am 31 so lots of friends and family having first babies, out of the ten the past three years only ONE has gone into Labour naturally. Is this normal or are healthcare providers too quick to induce?

I had a failed induction leading to a cascade of intervention including a emergency C-section where I haemorrhaged and then had an infection.

We were both in hospital over a week. I was only induced as I was overdue but my cervix was so unfavourable they couldn't even do a sweep so I perhaps am quite biased.

I did with my second at 40+3

Induction at 35 weeks with my first due to pre eclampsia

"Is this normal or are healthcare providers too quick to induce?"

Lots more mothers & babies used to die in childbirth than they do today.

Getyourjinglebellsinarow · 07/01/2022 20:24

I was induced at 41+3 after 4 sweeps. He was over 9lb. My labour did fuck all and I had to have a C section because my cervix just wouldn't shift. I honestly believe he'd just never have been born had the option not been available to us.

piglet81 · 07/01/2022 20:27

Spontaneous labour at 40+2. Ended up in emcs two days later though, so didn’t exactly go to plan!

Georgeskitchen · 07/01/2022 20:27

One spontaneous. 2 induced as waters broke and no labour started
4th one, unknown amniotic leak , infection and foetal tachycardia so another induction

User65412 · 07/01/2022 20:28

I think they do induce quite readily in the UK.
Some countries actually calculate due dates differently to the UK as a larger proportion of women would naturally give birth around 41 week (I think France is 41 weeks and some countries in Africa it's 42).
In the US, the popularity and normality of inductions has actually skewed the data so that pregnancies are appearing to get shorter.
I read a lot about this when pregnant and decided to have no intervention until 42 weeks. I went into labour at 41 + 5.

SamMil · 07/01/2022 20:28

I did, but had EMCS 5 days later.

TheCanyon · 07/01/2022 20:29

I'm 35, I don't know anyone that's been induced.

rainyskylight · 07/01/2022 20:31

I did. Only one DD so far. Felt first pains at 40+4, I kept moving, stayed home and on my feet all day. Born in MLU at 40+5.

Cantbebotheredwithausername · 07/01/2022 20:33

I did at 40+4 :-)

wendz86 · 07/01/2022 20:34

I did with both of mine . They were 39+6 and 39 weeks .

Littlepip02 · 07/01/2022 20:37

I did, on my due date 😊 completely textbook x

RecordPlayer · 07/01/2022 20:38

Went naturally at 40+7 but at my 38 week appointment I was booked in for induction at 40+10. I was told that they weren't trying to dictate what I do, but it was normal for my hospital to induce at 40+10, and they booked this in advance to manage bed occupancy etc. I don't know if this was based on evidence of negative consequences after that point or just anecdotally women getting uncomfortable and ready to meet baby by then.

Baby 1 I was induced. I was 10 days over, incredibly young and it was horrendous.

Baby 2 I declined induction, went into labour 11 days over.

Baby 3 I went 8 days over and it was the most gorgeous, easy water birth.

Induction was so bad for my first I've always said if I went really really over I'd go straight to elective C section.

Yubaba · 07/01/2022 20:42

I did all 3 times at 40+6, 40+3 and 40.
Baby 2&3 were home births.

ButterflyBitch · 07/01/2022 20:42

I did with my first and I had a sweep with my second when I’d already started contracting (waste of painful time that was), so yes. Went into labour naturally. Both my kids were slightly early/bang on time though. I was quite determined to avoid intervention if they’d gone overdue. As long as I could have anyway.

Whitefire · 07/01/2022 20:43

All three I did. One and two both started with spontaneous rupture of membranes, three was just a weird timeline, but I did just naturally go into labour.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/01/2022 20:44

Me, 36+5 and 39+0

MatildaJayne · 07/01/2022 20:46

I did with all 3.
37 weeks age 32 with DS1, needed forceps, 8 hour labour.
38 weeks age 34 with DS2, 4 hour labour.
39 weeks age 37 with DS3, 20 minute labour, born at home!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 07/01/2022 20:47

I went into labour naturally both times, once at 40+1 and once at 39+6. My children are punctual like me, what else can I say?!

user1471481356 · 07/01/2022 20:47

I did, at 40 weeks and 41+5. I only know one person who was induced at 42 weeks, out of my my entire friendship group, colleagues and extended family.

mindutopia · 07/01/2022 20:49

Yes, of course. Both mine were natural labours (and born at home). One at 37 weeks and the other at nearly 41 weeks. Nearly all my friends have been the same.

I would guess though that it’s possible there have been more inductions recently trying to manage staffing and childcare during COVID. These are the sorts of things that make people twitchy.

Yes naturally both times, first a week early, second bang on due date
