Doesn’t Mark Zuker whatever his name is do this so that he doesn’t have to give any thought to getting dressed he just pulls one of the 30 white T-shirts that he owns out of the drawers and matches it was one of the 30 pairs of blue jeans he has

inheritancetrack · 07/01/2022 19:56

Op is not suggesting the same clothes, but a similar style outfit each day, like a uniform, but clean and in rotation. Perfectly sensible idea and take the stress out of choosing the days outfit. A few nice trousers, jackets and blouses and just rotate so you don't look as though you're wearing the same clothes every day. Makes so much sense especially as it takes a while to see what others wear and build up the income reserves for new clothes.

TwittleBee · 07/01/2022 20:01

So not exact same outfit every day?

How I have tackled it; I have 2 pairs of trousers that I rotate and 4 blouses that I rotate which the choice of 2 jumpers. Same shoes. Everything goes with each other.

I do also have 2 dresses if I want to mix it up but rarely I go for those as I feel they're too casual.

AlbertBridge · 07/01/2022 20:02

David and - oh, whatever the Mum's called - only wear black and white clothes in Schitt's Creek. That was gorgeous. Very stylish and you don't immediately notice until someone points it out, and then you're like, Ohhhhhhh yeah.

CorpusCallosum · 07/01/2022 21:01

Good on you. If you make getting dressed easier you'll have more mental space for getting on with the job. People will notice your performance more than your clothes.

redferrari · 07/01/2022 21:15

I have a friend who does this. She has a few pieces in black and white and rotates them: a dress, a skirt and trousers and 1-2 blouses. She buys good quality and wears scarfs or statement accessories to vary styles. She looks v smart.

shinynewapple21 · 07/01/2022 21:22

You can create a capsule wardrobe
Eg 2 x black trousers, one black skirt. 3 shirts/blouses (white, grey, pink), 2 merino jumpers (grey, pink). 2 cardigans (black, grey), 3 short sleeve tops (white, grey, pink), one dress - black patterned, one black jacket .

  • obviously use colours that suit you but stick to core colours as above.

All your clothes will mix and match but you are not wearing exactly the same thing every day.

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 07/01/2022 21:23

I used to do this, had Zara skin trousers in black and navy and then Zara fine knits in a variety of colours a couple of belts and couple pairs of shoes and rotated it all was v easy

Wreath21 · 07/01/2022 21:28

To wear the exact same clothes every day, you need to be quite established and successful already, otherwise people will just think you don't wash. White-collar male workers might wear broadly similar clothes every day (suit, shirt, tie etc) but they will have two suits with slightly different colours or one will be striped and one not, plus they will wear different ties or even the occasional non-white shirt.
A basic workplace wardrobe would be three bottoms (skirt or trousers depending on preference) and six shirts/blouses, plus one or two jackets or cardigans. With the bottoms: one dark, one light, one either striped/checked or medium; shirts and blouses maybe two dark, two light and two patterned. You can get plenty of unremarkable clothes like this in charity shops so it won't cost t hat much, just hang them up all together and that's your work uniform.

1winterblues · 07/01/2022 23:15

I have a set of dresses about 6 that I wear over the week. Don't have to think about it at all just choose a dress and some tights. Much much easier. Two are exactly the same in a different pattern.
It makes my life easier and I never really think about what I need to wear

Lalliella · 08/01/2022 00:12

No that would be weird. People notice these things. You need 5 different tops for the 5 days. You could probably get away with 2 pairs of trousers.

echt · 08/01/2022 01:03

@Adamsants

I have now ordered a few clothes......but basically I am going to do it..same trousers...not sure abothe tops..have a few on order and will decide then..get the one I like best in different colours....black loafers..hopefully sorted
It's right off that the basis for most objections is what others think. Hmm

You go for it.

However, the shoes...... Definitely have two pairs so as to to rest one, they will last longer.

feeona123 · 08/01/2022 01:19

I do this but different colours! Find a top I like then buy a few different colours with black trousers.

Sodullincomparison · 08/01/2022 01:37

Every three months I choose five outfits I wear for work. I get fed up of them after that so they go back in the wardrobe.

I wear dresses so I don’t even have to think about matching elements.

I don’t have certain outfits for specific days but my team did notice I appeared to have a favourite Wednesday outfit.

For work as long as I look professional, clean and presentable that’s all I want.

I never ever wear my work clothes at the weekend! The thought makes me shudder!

TheSandgroper · 08/01/2022 01:44

Sorry, haven’t read the full thread so apologies if this has been mentioned.

Karl Stefanovic, long time breakfast tv host did this. The lady beside him changed her outfit every day. He wore the one suit every work day for a year, before telling the world what he had done.

Nobody Noticed. So, it can be done.

araiwa · 08/01/2022 03:48

Anyone who gives a shit about it is not worth listening to.

I wore exactly the same clothes for two years- no-one cared

Monty27 · 08/01/2022 04:02

You can't wear the same clothes 5 days running.
Like others have said a few tops and bottoms skirts and or trousers. You don't have to look like a model.
It's called a capsule wardrobe.
Please look fresh and clean at all times whatever you do.
Including personal hygiene.

SquirrelG · 08/01/2022 04:19

Also, even you have multiple identical shirts and wear a clean one everyday people won't know that and will probably think you are just rewearing dirty clothes/haven't changed from the day before.

It's no different to wearing a work uniform. Surely people will just assume that you wash the shirts between wears (if they think of it at all).

Furries · 08/01/2022 04:45

@WorldAtlasOfTea

My boss does this - black trousers and white shirt. But he's male so no one bats an eyelid. Hmm
This - every blooming time.

OP - build your wardrobe up gradually. There is nothing wrong with having a couple of basics ( skirt, jacket, trousers) in the same neutral colour. Then mix it up with different coloured tops/blouses etc.

As an aside - what industries can anyone seriously say that they clock a male wearing a COMP,ETELTY different outfit each day?

Am sure there will be answers denying this, but what women wear in the workspace is definitely a “thing” in a number of industries,

Ponoka7 · 08/01/2022 06:21

I'm 5'2" so when I was returning to work and found a good fitting pair of black trousers, I bought 5. I bought three fitted shirts in the same colour, got four in two other colours and got long sleeve, hip length basic jersey tops. Three cardis for winter, I didn't need jackets. When I wasn't in work I went camping/walking, so had no cross over clothes. I didn't want skirts because there's a lack of shoes for women that we can walk in and are good for our feet. It's fine to get a basic wardrobe that is low maintenance. If it came up in conversation, I'd be honest and say it isn't something I want to have to think about.

Mine does this too. But at work we do find it weird and very boring on the eye. It looks like school uniform.
Sodullincomparison · 08/01/2022 07:03

There is a clothes shop in the US Calle White House Black Market which does balcony and white pieces with maybe two colours each seasons for some tops etc.

Adamsants · 08/01/2022 07:03

Its funny. I started off thinking this would be something to make life easy,,but when people say words like " you cant" i have to question this. Men can...women less so. This women can

And @Monty27 could you be any patronising Smile
