The chap who cuts my hair does that, new black t shirt and jeans every day - neat, tidy & practical.

I'd get bored, and I enjoy clothes so I wouldn't, but if it works for you, it makes perfect sense.

IglesiasPiggl · 07/01/2022 14:02

Personally I would get bored with the same look every day. But if you like a "uniform" then maybe have the same things but in different colours, a couple of different bags and a range of jewellery.

Frenchfancy · 07/01/2022 14:02

If it is basic like black trousers and white shirt then no one will notice.

If it is something a bit different then you need to vary it so it is clear you have washed.

I have 3 pairs of the same trousers in different colours that I rotate and in winter 5 different jumpers and lots of scarfs so I rotate them around.

MarisPiper92 · 07/01/2022 14:02

Men do this all the time, don't see why you shouldn't too. People will possibly think you're wearing the same clothes, but as long as they are clean and you don't smell I'm sure they'll get over it.

(But possibly ignore me - when WFH started I realised I hated all my office clothes and got rid of most of them, and don't intend to ever buy any more.)

MotorwayDiva · 07/01/2022 14:03

I used to wear same suit had one in black and one in navy and then changed then had five different tops, mixed it up with different jewellery and scarves

BarbaraofSeville · 07/01/2022 14:03

Depends. Are you a man or a woman?

Most men do it all the time.

If a woman does it, she's either weird or unhygienic.

Make of that what you will.

I wear a very limited amount of clothes, eg two identical pairs of jeans and 3 tops. It's less to think about.

Shiningpath · 07/01/2022 14:04

A top that works for you in a couple of different colours is the way to go. Maybe a coloured shell top under a cardigan, same top in a different colour under a relaxed blazer the next day. Wide leg trousers are comfy and versatile: you can easily zhush them up for smart casual wear outside work or dress them down with something slouchy.

Deliaskis · 07/01/2022 14:04

I have what I call my work uniform, but essentially it's variations on a theme, that I know will work together. Often it's similar items in different colours, or variations that work with winter versus summer footwear etc. So to me it's a uniform because it's simple and I know I can just re-order staples from shops I like when I need to, but it doesn't look like I'm wearing the exact same thing, which I agree would be a bit weird.

Tal45 · 07/01/2022 14:04

I wouldn't think it was weird, possibly autistic but not weird.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/01/2022 14:05

Similar - fine

Exactly the same - they’ll think you’re sleeping in your clothes!

helpfulperson · 07/01/2022 14:06

Many top men do exactly this. Look at what Steve Jobs work. There was also a TV newsreader who wore the same suit for a year and noone noticed. Its another example of unconscious misogyny so challenge it.

^^
Like this sort of thing is fine, and the equivalent of what men do

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/01/2022 14:07

Men do change their shirt and tie each day and generally have more than one suit in rotation (if they wear suits)

Autismandgin · 07/01/2022 14:07

I wouldn’t think it was autistic Confused

BiddyPop · 07/01/2022 14:08

I have a drawer with about 8 M&S ribbed polo neck jumpers, 2 black and the rest in other colours. And a large section which has LandsEnd long sleeved round necked tops - again the same shape but a range of different colours that suit me (about 4 black, 3 white, 3 navy, 2 pine green, then 1 each in red, burgundy, teal, violet). Hanging, I have 5 pairs of decent work trousers (3 the same in grey, navy and black, and 2 more in different shapes - 1 navy, 1 black). And a few jackets, scarves, statement necklaces etc.

This means I can mostly mix and match an almost identical outfit daily, knowing the basic shape and fit work for me - but changing colours and accents so it doesn't look the same.

(When in the office, I also had a bunch of dresses and a couple of skirts that I had built up over the years, but these need me to lose the covid stone(s) to get back into...).

NorthernSoul55 · 07/01/2022 14:08

I work in periods of 2-3 weeks at a time through the year, and we're expected to dress smartly. I have 3 pairs of trousers that I rotate, black, navy and check, that I wear with existing tops or jumpers depending on the time if year. I don't wear any of it at other times, not my 'style'.
All the trousers are charity shop buys, as are some of the tops. They fit the bill and cost next to nothing.

DrManhattan · 07/01/2022 14:09

Not sure how it's got anything to do with autism. It just makes life easier, one less thing to think about.

Adamsants · 07/01/2022 14:09

Thanks all......to answer a few questions..I amnot autistic...I am a woman....I am not bothered by fashion! I got the idea from watching toast of London!

I do this. It's fine! I'm in charge, though, so when I say it's fine, I don't mean people haven't commented or judged me. I mean that I don't care and it doesn't hurt my career.

Skullycup45 · 07/01/2022 14:09

@WorldAtlasOfTea

My boss does this - black trousers and white shirt. But he's male so no one bats an eyelid. Hmm
Indeed.

I am a bit of a uniform dresser. I know what I like and what I think suits me. I tend to buy the same things but in different colours/patterns etc. I am the sort of person who buys the same top in four different colours.

JasmineGarden · 07/01/2022 14:11

Why are you contemplating doing this?

Autismandgin · 07/01/2022 14:12

The autism comment has really baffled me and upset me a little (I am autistic!).

Anyway, OP good luck starting your new job and congrats! Smile

MsSquiz · 07/01/2022 14:12

I wore the same trousers but in 3 different colours (black, navy & grey) on rotation and would wear similar shirt, jumpers, cardigans. I also had the same pair of shoes in about 6 different colours! But I think it would look odd if you just wore identikit trousers and shirts every day

Adamsants · 07/01/2022 14:13

@JasmineGarden

Why are you contemplating doing this?
For ease

I’m convinced a colleague of mine does this. But then maybe he just owns lots of similar grey trousers and blue shirts. Much more likely for a man to do this I think.
