I'm surprised so many people would notice/care. I don't pay any attention to what my colleagues wear.

I wouldn't really care if they thought I was wearing the actual same clothes everyday without washing either, since I know that wouldn't be the case. Since I'm clean, healthy and hygienic, I don't really care if a colleague thinks I'm not. That's their problem!

RollaCola84 · 07/01/2022 15:27

@Neverunderstood and others - I've worked with a guy for almost ten years, in that time I've never seen him wear anything other than black trousers and a white shirt in the office, he occasionally adds a jacket and tie but still black trousers and a white shirt. It's never occurred to me that he doesn't wash or only has one set of clothes and I don't it has to anyone else. He's a relatively senior, perfectly normal bloke.

If you want to do that then go for it. I don't wear exactly the same thing everyday but it is variations on quite a narrow theme. I own multiple pairs of the same trousers in black, grey and blue and the same top in different colours.

lastqueenofscotland · 07/01/2022 15:35

I would think you don’t wash…
I’d buy a couple of pairs of similar but not the same trousers and a few varied tops.

watchmeflyhigh · 07/01/2022 15:45

You can definitely get away with a similar theme but not exactly the same.
Black trousers and 7x different tops to rotate or something like this. So it's the same but different. No thought required then.

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 07/01/2022 15:46

I agree with PP - people will assume you don't wash (either your body or your clothes). I do hope you don't mean the same clothes each day and what you mean is several of the same top/trousers? Definitely vary your clothes.

Livetolive · 07/01/2022 15:47

After maternity leave a couple of years ago I used a personal shopper in a department store who picked a capsule wardrobe out for me, 1 pair of trousers, a skirt, four tops, and a jacket. The whole process only took a couple of hours and was so easy as they all mixed and matched. I am similarly not interested in fashion but need to look decent for work with minimal effort each day.

Maybe worth a try so at least it's a slightly mixed up set of outfits and you can avoid any potential judgements from colleagues.?

Ariela · 07/01/2022 15:56

I have a work uniform stylee clothes just form work! I have navy, mid grey, black and for the summer stone coloured trousers. I have 7 tops - 4 are the same just different colours t-shirt style, and 3 others have long sleeves.
I have 2 jackets and 2 long length cardigans, and about 15-20 scarves and several lots of beads/chunky jewellery. So I might even wear the same outfit 2 days running but dressed with different scarves /jacket/cardigan/jewellery.

BeLessMe · 07/01/2022 15:56

This woman claims no one noticed she wore the same thing every day. I’m pretty sure they did but were too professional to say ‘you always wear that’.

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-9698195/Woman-wore-Hawaiian-shirt-264-Zoom-meetings-pandemic-says-NO-ONE-noticed.html

I really don’t care what people wear to work as long as they are clean and, as pp have pointed out, plenty of very successful men have purposely done it such as Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs.

I wouldn’t think you were weird, at home I often wear pretty much the same couple of jumpers on rotation with the same few pairs of jeans. Familiar is comfy & I’m not going many places these days.

garlictwist · 07/01/2022 15:58

I do this. I wear the same skirt Monday to Friday (assuming I don't spill on it). Then have five pairs of black tights, five white tops and just wear those. I cba thinking about clothes so just do that.

Dearblossom · 07/01/2022 15:59

When I was in the office I wore v similar trousers, one black, one pattered and the same top but in a different colour. It's nice for you to have some colour around you too to jolly up your week Smile

FlasherMcGruff · 07/01/2022 16:01

Sounds like you just need a capsule wardrobe of a few things in colours that suit you and which all coordinate. Maybe 8 things to begin with, using things you already have as a starting point. You can then rotate them constantly but won’t need to worry about selecting an outfit as every top and bottom (and jacket if it’s a more formal workplace) will work together even if you get dressed in a hurry. I just did the quickest internet search and while these colours are definitely not my taste, you get the idea:

To wear the same outfit to work everyday
lightand · 07/01/2022 16:03

I know someone years ago who did this because her and her fiance were very hard up and saving money hard.
She did all sorts of other things as well.
It was ok up to a point, but I still remember it decades later.
And meanwhile, they would splash out on the oddest of things.

Do people who think this sort of thing also think the same if a man had two dark suits, five white shirts and a couple of different ties?

Why? Serious question.

Confuuuzed · 07/01/2022 16:07

Like others I'd vary colours of some basics to mix&match.
BUT, before going out and buying 5 tops/3 bottoms/2 jackets in one go, I'd want to be confident they definitely wear "office dress" everyday. My company dont, so new joiners often do a first week wearing whats clearly a new wardrobe then revert to jeans/casual stuff like the rest of us! Always worth having one or two smart outfits tho so a couple to start you off wont be wasted.

DailyMailHater · 07/01/2022 16:08

I have about 3 pairs work trousers and 8 work tops that I just mix and match and wear on rotation….not sure I could wear the exact same everyday

FingersofFish · 07/01/2022 16:11

All the people I know at the top of my industry do effectively this and it's recommended in leadership training! Not identical necessarily but something so that having to think about and pick what to wear doesn't need time spending on it. I've been a big fast fashion used in the past so as I am returning to the office post lockdown I've been trying to develop a similar uniform approach foe any new purchases

itsgettingweird · 07/01/2022 16:17

I have a sort of uniform!

I have the high waited jeggings from m and s. Some coloured and 1 denim coloured pair. 4 identical t shirts that match them and all the colours mix and match. I then have various different style jumpers or cardigans dependent of how warm etc it is.

It's easy because I know it looks smart, is practical for what I do and I don't second time faffing over what to wear!

KatherineJaneway · 07/01/2022 16:17

Do people who think this sort of thing also think the same if a man had two dark suits, five white shirts and a couple of different ties?

Most men I work with have shirts of varying colours, just as the suggestions here are for the OP to vary colours.

LookItsMeAgain · 07/01/2022 16:19

I would have a couple of pairs of trousers/couple of skirts and matching jacket/blazer and then the same style top/shirt/blouse in maybe two or three colours to mix and match and you're good to go. I wouldn't think you need to get an entirely new wardrobe but I would think that you should be able to build a capsule wardrobe for work and build on that.

CatchingStars · 07/01/2022 16:20

I kind of do this, in that my spring/autumn work wear is ankle grazer skinny pants, loafers, long sleeved skinny top & blazer or long sleeveless waistcoat - style is all pretty similar but in a real mix of colours inc shoes and I do mix them up and add statement jewellery. Summer I tend to wear jumpsuits - again they may be similar style but in several colours and i mix up shoes/sandals/ accessories and then winter tends to be leggings, boots and jumpers/tops with coatigsns or blazer or jacket depending on weather. It gives me a "look" I'm happy with, that is smart enough for work but casual enough to be comfortable and makes what to wear each day relatively easy.

Cam22 · 07/01/2022 16:21

@Dogshitduty

My first thoughts are when you see the simpsons wardrobe and they have a load of the same outfit hung up.

Definitely not, it's weird. Work basics are fine like maybe a couple of pencil skirts and maybe 5 or 6 blouses on rotation. But same outfit every day? Very strange

So where does that leave school uniforms - or indeed any uniform, then? Lol
endlesscraziness · 07/01/2022 16:24

I had a colleague that wore the same outfit everyday. She wore a black skirt and a white blouse. It was a little odd but practical

caringcarer · 07/01/2022 16:26

My work wardrobe used to consist of 2 trouser suits (grey and black pin stripe 2 skirt suits (navy and black) 5 long sleeve blouses and 5 short sleeve blouses/tops. 1 dress suit with jacket. A few different belts and a black cardigan. Sometimes I would mix it up so wear black pin stripe trousers and pale blue top with black cardi.

DreamerSeven · 07/01/2022 16:27

I wear black or grey skirts or trousers with black or grey blazers and a variety of different coloured tops to mix and match. Keeps costs down, stops me overthinking and gives me a little variety.

Profiterolla · 07/01/2022 16:28

I sort of did this pre-pandemic, but I can wear jeans to work so I just had 4 pairs of black skinny jeans and an array of jumpers, t-shirts, blouses, cardigans, etc. Then different shoes / boots depending on the weather. Obviously this didn't work in the summer and I found outfit choices much more difficult!

DH also does this - identical work trousers and different shirts. I assumed that was pretty standard for men who work in offices.

If a colleague was wearing the same actual outfit every day, or a clean one that could be mistaken for yesterday's, I would definitely notice and would be a bit concerned about them if it went on for a while. But I don't think that's quite what you're proposing OP, sounds more like you want some basic staples that are interchangeable because they look similar. In which case, crack on.
