To ask what can I nibble on?

I've given up sugar. For health reasons, but the weight loss was an added bonus!

However ... what can I eat at my desk? I used to munch my way through chocolate and biscuits but have replaced those with bread sticks and dry crackers. I've been told they are just sugar in another form but I'm not sure what to swap it for. I've tried fruit but it's just not filling enough. I'm veggie too which probably doesn't help!

My office hours are erratic and involve very early mornings which is when I'm most hungry, even with a big breakfast.

Any ideas gratefully received!

Nuts.
Crudités and humous.
Cheese.
Berries
Oatcakes and cottage cheese.
Basically you need some protein to help keep you full.

HoppyHop · 06/01/2022 17:22

Do you eat eggs? Hard boiled eggs are great protein (...but maybe smelly in an office environment!)

DanielRicciardosSmile · 06/01/2022 17:23

Nibble Nobby's Nuts!

Do they still make them?

On a more practical level, maybe carrot batons or celery? The crunch would be similar to the biscuits or breadsticks.

BurbageBrook · 06/01/2022 17:23

I think it’s a bit strange that you feel the need to nibble on stuff at your desk all day between meals. Are you eating enough protein for your meals?

countrypunk · 06/01/2022 17:24

Oatcakes with peanut butter are my go to office snack. Or rice cakes with marmite AND peanut butter. Sounds gross but it's totally delish. I'm also partial to a babybel, or a handful of almonds. And I love those Eat Real lentil crisps with hummus but that's not exactly healthy (if that's the goal Smile).

Justkeeppedaling · 06/01/2022 17:25

Fruit is also sugar!

How about carrot or celery sticks? Or a protein bar, sugar free yoghurt, crackers with cheese, egg...

DaveGrohl · 06/01/2022 17:27

Sounds like you need more protein, especially at breakfast, if you feel the need to snack between meals.

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 06/01/2022 17:31

Olives.

It's not strange, some people just prefer to eat little and often. If I ate enough in one meal to.keep me full until the next I would feel bloated and sick and probably need a nap. Everyone is different 🤷‍♀️
emmathedilemma · 06/01/2022 17:36

Urgh it didn’t take the 3 main meals a day brigade long did it?!?
Nuts, cheese, raw veg, cooked chicken, prawns, natural yogurt….

emmathedilemma · 06/01/2022 17:36

Boiled eggs

KittenCatcher · 06/01/2022 17:39

Do you have a decent breakfast with slow carbs before work to get you through to lunch. Do you just want snacks during the day. Vegetable sticks, an avocado, porridge pot, banana with natural yoghourt, olives, fresh fruit salad. Are you drinking plenty, herbal teas fill you up.

OnTheMoonWithSteve · 06/01/2022 17:41

Celery sticks with peanut butter and marmite, nuts, cheese/hummus and crackers

Queenoftheashes · 06/01/2022 17:43

I eat quorn picnic eggs and cocktail sausages at my desk. Also M&S gyoza with dip things, carrots and houmous somethings quinoa chips.

Queenoftheashes · 06/01/2022 17:44

SomeTIMES

Funkyslippers · 06/01/2022 17:45

How about making your own sugar free cakes or flapjacks?

TheChosenTwo · 06/01/2022 17:46

Can you not just eat something substantial as a snack if you need to?
Rather than nibbling away at something?
Is the snacking just a habit that needs doing away with? (I don’t know, I can turn into a snacker when I haven’t eaten enough, when I realise it after a few weeks of oblivious snacking and my clothes feeling tight I remember to cut back on the snacks and I realise I don’t actually need them, I just want them!!).
Boring but are you eating enough at your main meals? It doesn’t need to be so much you feel full and uncomfortable, I tend to just eat until I’ve had enough/satisfied but I very very rarely eat to the point of fullness as I’m just very uncomfortable at that point…

Thanks, some great suggestions here. I couldn't do eggs in the office, but maybe for breakfast. Natural yoghurt and banana sounds a great idea, as is cheese. Porridge too. I've never actually tried peanut butter! Might give it a go. Thanks everyone

Yes, I think you're right. More protein needed. Trying hard to be veggie but it just leaves me hungry

Overnight oats.
Carrot sticks.
Grated carrot with a squeeze of lime juice.
Rice cakes
Sweet popcorn.
Edamame beans.
Almonds.

bonfireheart · 06/01/2022 18:06

Make your own snacks? Not sure how healthy these are, but they're from the body coach
www.thebodycoach.com/blog/peanut-butter-bars

jackstini · 06/01/2022 18:07

Dried broad beans & corn type snacks (like Graze but can get others)
Salted or plain popcorn
Babybel or other cheese
If you have a fridge, I quite often snack on slices of ham or chicken!

ShirleyPhallus · 06/01/2022 18:07

I’d be driven bananas by a colleague chomping away on breadsticks and crackers all day!

Agree with trying more protein with breakfast

bloomingcovid · 06/01/2022 18:11

@ShirleyPhallus I know! Blush I feel really embarrassed which is another reason why I'm looking for alternatives! I'm loving these healthy but quiet options! Smile

Try not eating, grazing can cause insulin resistance too.
