We are quite a large team and everyone except one has had their covid booster. She has had the first two vaccinations. Guidance has just been changed - so anyone who is a household contact can return to work if they meet certain conditions. Being boosted is one of them. She refuses to get the booster - unsure of her reasons - I haven’t asked as it’s none of my business. She has been off multiple times with symptoms and has taken multiple PCR tests - all of which have been negative. We all just roll our eyes now when we are told she is off again. Now they have been identified as a close contact - but will need to isolate as not boosted. We are stretched as it is and can’t help thinking less of this person! AIBU?

We have a couple of Bilko's on our team too @Chanandlerbong1, I am slightly in awe of their complete lack of giving any fucks about anyone else and secretly wish I was a bit more like them.

Endoftether2000 · 06/01/2022 20:58

So Shiny Happy Poster put your statistics where your comments are? How many Unvaccinated people are mopping up after the boosted isolated? If it wasn't for the unvaccinated then people with mild covid symptoms like a cold could just go to work??? Problem for the skivers and piss takers solved?? Isn't that where we are trying to get too??? Boosters make the virus mutate to being weaker or are the scientists wrong🤔

This reads like it is a team of two, with the OP being the management.

@Chanandlerbong1

That’s the thing, we are faced with this continuing problem, yet can’t do anything about it Obviously for medical reasons, she would be perfectly within her rights. I would just have been one about it if that was the case. Yes, it’s not our business but I would rather just be upfront so that my colleagues didn’t think I was just being lazy and leaving the team to pick up the slack constantly.
Maybe she doesn't think that people would be bitching about her for being off...or maybe she thinks that you are bitching so therefore doesn't like you all and doesn't feel the need to share her details with you for that reason!
lljkk · 06/01/2022 21:14

as far as I can tell... 2 doses (of accepted vaccine) counts as "fully vaccinated" today in England

Thus, people with 2 doses don't have to isolate after contact with known case

I don't know where OP lives

Jeffreyson · 06/01/2022 21:15

"Oh are the "unboosted" going to become the new "unvaccinated".
*
FGS. She has had two vaccines. Until the government changes the rules, she is under no obligation to have a third. Mind your own business.

A lot of companies are changing there policies to not pay for vaccination as the person has chosen not to be vaccinated

no they're not because it would not be lawful to. They could change it for new recruits I suppose. Also a lot of unvaccinated didn't choose it, they were advised not to especially if they and one dose and had a bad reaction*"

This. YABmassivelyU.

Most people I know off work/isolating with omicron ARE double jabbed and super duper boosted so it doesn't make any sodding difference.

Maybe instead of cursing your colleague, maybe curse the stupid, nonsensical rules instead.

Endoftether2000 · 06/01/2022 21:22

Agreed Walking for you, I am guessing though that historically MMR, TB, Small poxx may have needed to be refined before it was perfected. I not a virologist but I am guessing the vaccine will have to be refined to cover new variants like the flu vaccine is. As far as I am aware the aim is to weaken the virus through the boosters and initiate natural immunity. Thanks to my Grandfather and Grandmother (who is still alive at 100 plus and has had Covid) due to her suffering of TB and Smallpox the immunity was passed onto us her Grandchildren.

Ohthebloodyjoys · 06/01/2022 21:24

Being double vaccinated, boosted, flu jabbed is the new equivalent to wearing hi-vis and having a fancy badge 👍

😂

With an air of invincibility too don't you forget..

Let them enjoy their throne until the quadruple jabbers kick 'em off it

LovePoppy · 06/01/2022 21:32

What does her being on full pay have to do with you?

BoPeeple · 06/01/2022 21:35

You have absolutely no idea why she hasn’t had the booster. As she’s had 2 vaccines she must have a pretty good reason. YABU —and judgey—

Wrongkindofovercoat · 06/01/2022 21:37

Unlike OP's work colleague who has never had a positive PCR and is double vaccinated, so maybe it works well for some people ?

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 06/01/2022 21:41

I don't know. I'd be annoyed but equally she has the right to make her own decisions.

stayathomer · 06/01/2022 21:50

I find the smugness around covid so surreal. Are you telling me none of your other coworkers have been a close contact or had symptoms? Because that's an issue too! And I'm boostered up but it hasn't stopped me having coughs or getting a phone call to tell me there's a chance I'm a close contact!!

Wrongkindofovercoat · 06/01/2022 21:50

Maybe she doesn't think that people would be bitching about her for being off.

Have to ask this @user1481840227 but have you ever worked with other people ?

EllaVaNight · 06/01/2022 22:13

I've been asking my team for a photo of the positive test. Sad times but we found out if you put orange juice on the test, it comes back positive. also coke, lemonade, squash, flavoured water and probably many others!

VelvetChairGirl · 06/01/2022 22:21

You know it will never end OP, your be ordered to get your 4th and wont count if you've only had your 3rd. its a horrible them and us BS going on right now and its all pointless division to distract from government failure.

the vaccine only protects you, it is supposed to prevent you getting seriously ill, it doesnt stop you catching it or spreading it, as demonstrated by the new strain that was brought into the country by fully jabbed up, vaccine passported and freshly tested people flying in from Africa. and as such it also doesnt stop the vaccine from mutating further within the infected jabbed or not.

So it really isnt anyone business who is or isnt vaccinated, and as said in JP "life finds a way" and that includes viruses.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 06/01/2022 22:23

@VelvetChairGirl and some people will find a way to get themselves some fully paid additional weeks annual leave because 'life finds a way' Wink

Before your precious jabs which dont really look like they have done anything to me, this country has a bloody awful record on covid because the government is terrible. People were working while infected in their droves because they couldnt afford to be off sick, lucky her the few who get full pay. most do not get full pay and many get no pay at all for being sick and that is a fundamental problem with this country.

anotherbloodyyearofcovid · 07/01/2022 06:17

@tttigress

YABU, what has anyone's medical information got to do with you?
If they are carrying an infectious, possibly fatal disease, then people have every right to be involved

@VelvetChairGirl that’s not exactly true though is it? I’m not getting my booster, but there’s no denying that the vaccine has brought down hospital and mortality rates.

Agree 100% about the inept government.

Popcornriver · 07/01/2022 07:39

Perhaps the second dose affected her really, really badly. Blame the guidelines not your team member.

How do you know its the vaccine and not just that most of the vulnerable have been wiped out, after all they had a good try at it with the care homes and the slapping of DNRs on people with special needs.
sashagabadon · 07/01/2022 07:54

Why can’t she just lft every day in work instead?

ILoveYouMoreTheEnd · 07/01/2022 08:03

@sashagabadon

Why can’t she just lft every day in work instead?
Was just going to ask this! Unless she's had positive lft and continually waiting on the PCR. Also there's nothing can be done if she's been in close contact with a positive case. Frustrating for employers and colleagues 😑 xx
