Household of 5: 2 adults, 3 DC.

I can - when everyone else has had a go - rework the loading of the dishwasher so that EVERYTHING fits in, rather than leaving a mountain of dirty stuff on the side (like the rest of the household) ready for the next cycle.

AIBU to ask what is your particular set of skills? Skills you have acquired over a very long career.*

*Yes I've quoted Liam Neeson...

I can read completely illegible handwriting.

Latte40 · 06/01/2022 18:10

Guesstimate- portion's when doing meals, throwing ingredients together, how much time there is left on a timer, knowing what time it is (usually within a couple of mins). Working out timings for things roughly etc

BatshitCrazyWoman · 06/01/2022 18:12

I'm also a great detangler of chains and necklaces, like a PP.

I'm very organised, and extremely tidy. I read really fast.

I have crap spatial awareness, and very little hand eye coordination, so parking and sport are difficult for me 😂

InconvenientPeg · 06/01/2022 18:16

I can pack anything neatly and getting the maximum in, car boots, the fridge, the freezer, suitcases. When we go on holiday, basically the rest of the family bring me things, and I pack the car.

I can find quality vintage pieces in a box of rubbish, even when I have no idea or knowledge about the items, it's just a 'feel'. I now but and sell vintage, decided to make use of it!

I'm really good at detaching from a situation, when everyone else is mired in the drama, I can stand back and find solutions.

I can't remember either names or faces, but have DH for that, as he has an absolutely uncanny ability with both!

Decluttering

DobbyTheHouseElk · 06/01/2022 18:20

I have great spatial awareness

I have a great sense of direction and rarely get lost, and can always find my way home if I do.

I can tell the time to the minute without a clock.

I just need a job where this is a useful skill.

Remembering the words to songs I haven't heard for many many years. It was almost 50 years the other day.

I listen to Boom Radio (station). It's so good. Always something (old) new.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 06/01/2022 18:32

I’m brilliant at packing the car so everything fits

I’ve got a VW Up (tiny) and can pack it for the three of us for a week self catering (so bringing some food), with outdoor gear, with the parcel shelf properly down.

DumpedByText · 06/01/2022 18:32

I can put a bottle of beer down my cleavage and lean back and drink out of it! Does that count 😂

CandyLeBonBon · 06/01/2022 18:33

Fitting what looks like an impossible load into either the washing machine or the boot, depending on whether suitcases are involved!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 06/01/2022 18:33

Also am magic at finding the best way around London transport, or the U.K. rail network generally due to former job that involved a lot of travel.

^^
Oh I have this one too!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 06/01/2022 18:35

Also - if a group of people is talking about an event that happened many years ago, I can tell you what everyone was wearing. Plus if there was a meal involved I can usually say what most of not all of us had to eat.

If my best friend from school is on here this might out me!

hangrylady · 06/01/2022 18:39

I can recognise actors on TV who have been on something else, even if it was 30 years earlier and had a minor part. I'm also an expert at catching chickens!

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 06/01/2022 18:53

I can cobble a decent tasting meal together from very basic ingredients.

I can touch type really fast (though need a decent keyboard to do it, not my phone).

I am good at all sorts of letter writing; formal and informal.

Beachhuts90 · 06/01/2022 19:00

@diplodocus

I can read completely illegible handwriting.
Are you also a primary teacher because I came here to say the same Grin
batmanladybird · 06/01/2022 19:02

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo

I am fantastic in a crisis, I go Uber calm and practical and work it through to a solution.
I am the complete opposite I even recently bought a book called positive under pressure or something Must actually read it lol
batmanladybird · 06/01/2022 19:03

@Ionlydomassiveones

I know the name of that obscure actor or actress you can’t remember with only a vague description of the film or tv show they were in.
I am quite good at this

I am also quite good at guessing what might happen in a tv show (dh and I call me the secret scriptwriter)

batmanladybird · 06/01/2022 19:04

I am very good at birthing babies but this is not very transferable

A580Hojas · 06/01/2022 19:07

Knowing everyone's birthday.

Folding fitted sheets.

Creating nice dinners out of what we have in the fridge/cupboard.

A580Hojas · 06/01/2022 19:11

Also I can untangle anything tangled up.

TheWhalrus · 06/01/2022 19:23

Identifying a song from hearing just the first few seconds, also identifying obscure B sides by certain artists when i've only heard their hits.

Judging the ripeness of fruits and vegetables, advocadoes and melons are a particular speciality

Greenandcabbagelooking · 06/01/2022 19:49

I'm really good at remembering names. Last week, I found a photo from a Pack Holiday with Brownies in about 1999 or 2000. I could remember the names of all the 25 girls.

MahMahMahMahCorona · 06/01/2022 21:09

@KloppsTeeth Sounds like we could form a decent government based on these skills. When do we storm Number 10?

I wholeheartedly agree! So many of these skills are absolutely fantastic, I'm surprised we aren't running the country already.
