Household of 5: 2 adults, 3 DC.

I can - when everyone else has had a go - rework the loading of the dishwasher so that EVERYTHING fits in, rather than leaving a mountain of dirty stuff on the side (like the rest of the household) ready for the next cycle.

AIBU to ask what is your particular set of skills? Skills you have acquired over a very long career.*

*Yes I've quoted Liam Neeson...

@Ionlydomassiveones I know the name of that obscure actor or actress you can’t remember with only a vague description of the film or tv show they were in.

I have a friend who can do this! I call her and say do you remember that programme with thingy in it from that other programme, the one with the hair - she always knows who I am talking about. Hilarious.

MahMahMahMahCorona · 06/01/2022 14:36

@Sebastianthecoo

I’m really good at putting the empty toilet roll in the bin and the new one on the holder. In my small survey of a family of 6 it seems I’m the only person able to do this, so it must be quiet rare.

Ditto finding things in the places everyone else has looked and it absolutely cannot see it.

You are awesome. I alone have this toilet roll skill too! Likewise I'm good at seeing drinking bottles / mugs / glasses / cups / plates strewn around in various bedrooms / not the kitchen, and collecting them, to put into aforementioned dishwasher, something which the all male other household members seem to be useless at.

This is me and my eldest DD, we both instantly know who the other is talking about. My mum says we have a hive mind 😂

Remembering birthdays, fixing computer problems and carrying heavy loads in backpacks. I don't drive, walk most places, and am used to a big backpack full of groceries/library books/assorted other things. When I travel, I prefer taking the biggest backpack to a suitcase with wheels - and I don't travel light!

I've also found that I'm veru good at editing and improving A Level coursework, despite having none of them myself. Grin

Bluesarestillblue · 06/01/2022 16:36

DH is excellent at finding lost things. I can call him at work and ask him where I left something and he can always tell me where it is. He has excellent observation skills and can find continuity errors in most tv programs

KloppsTeeth · 06/01/2022 16:40

Sounds like we could form a decent government based on these skills. When do we storm Number 10?

My skills are:

Reversing a car.

Anything to do with school governance, policies, exclusions and complaints.

Change management.

DeepaBeesKit · 06/01/2022 16:43

I can change the bedding (inc sheet & mattress protector) on both the top and bottom bunks without the child getting off the bed.

mewkins · 06/01/2022 16:48

My particular skills are:

Really getting to know a lot about someone very quickly. I ask a lot if questions but not in an interrogative way.

Cutting in/edging on walls and painting woodwork with minimal mess/drips.

Remembering all sorts of strange music trivia and weird associations between artists/bands.

TheDogsMother · 06/01/2022 16:49

Finding things that we don't have, apparently Confused. I'm also good at finding anything on Google, have great Jigsaw skills and using up leftover food.

HunterGatherer · 06/01/2022 16:59

Special skills?

  1. I can get lost in the smallest of spaces.
  2. I can reverse a car with a caravan attached Grin which is lucky given special skill 1.
  3. I am good at training dogs (less so children)
  4. I am a very organised Christmas shopper
  5. I can identify most British birds by sight, call and flight pattern.

Are you a nurse? Wink
averythinline · 06/01/2022 17:03

I rarely get lost and can equally find my way around a town/city/area after 1 visit no matter how brief....my map reading skills are not great though...
Equally can rustle up dinner from fridge ends/low budget....
Read quickly and distill info .... can remember faces/voices but

not names at all or people in things or even when things were that I was at...luckily I have a friend whose really good at that so can ask her my life history...

FaoinDrualus · 06/01/2022 17:06

I can guess the right time within about five mins without looking at a clock.

threecupsofteaminimum · 06/01/2022 17:20

I know what record it is by the first few chords

Chely · 06/01/2022 17:25

We have 6 kids. I'm really good at tuning out all the noise, dh is rather envious of that skill 🤣. He works away a lot so really struggles to adjust when he is home, I think it annoys him a bit when we're in the car though and he will shout at me to answer the child who has said mum a dozen times just to tell me some pointless thing.

Seriouslymole · 06/01/2022 17:30

I can make perfectly poached eggs.

I'm reasonable at parallel parking, but not whilst being watched, can touch type quickly and can change a single bed in about 45 seconds. A double bed however, takes me forever!

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 06/01/2022 17:36

I can detangle any necklace, no matter how many knots.

DPotter · 06/01/2022 17:54

I know precisely how many toilet rolls there are in the house at any one time.

My DP tried to claim he ran the household once - fortunately I was in a good mood so he came to no physical harm. I very carefully explained that a person who runs a household knows when stuff needs replacing, eg milk, juice, bread, toilet rolls, and replaces them before they run out (ideally, mostly, usually, anyway - we've never run out of toilet rolls).

marykitty · 06/01/2022 17:55

I have an eccellent memory, my DH, work mates and friends rely on this skill.

I have a great spacial awareness and I almost never get lost.

I am the best at procastination.

UsernameInTheTown · 06/01/2022 17:57

Complaining and arguing in a way that makes the subject of my ire thank me. Learned at my DM's knee.

Anordinarymum · 06/01/2022 18:01

@sleepymum50

I can clap really really loud. If I am anywhere and the audience applause is a bit lacklustre, I always feel sorry for the performer/s - so I go into overdrive.

My OH always covers his ears and acts embarrassed.

I can’t snap my fingers though. Utterly useless.

I bet I can clap louder! I think it is a skill which is underestimated. I can clap to a level most flamenco dancers would bow down to :)
GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 06/01/2022 18:02

I am The Finder of Things.

DH is the Reminder of Things.

DD is the Forgetter of Things.

DS is the Complainer about Things.

Looks at Deepa admiringly
GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 06/01/2022 18:03

Oh, and I'm also really good at Fridge and Freezer Tetris.

Ironingtsunami · 06/01/2022 18:06

A rather dull one, but I can remember dates and events at work without having to go and check. It means I can recall them when in a discussion and makes people think I know what I'm talking about and agree with me.

The skill I prefer - when I go to bed, I fall asleep very quickly!
